This is a review of the Dell Latitude 5420 Rugged Laptop PC. This version has an Intel i7-8650U Quad-Core 8-thread processor with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD. It has Radeon RX 540 4GB Graphics, a 14" 1080p touch anti-glare screen, gigabit Ethernet, a RGB camera, AC WiFi, no Bluetooth, SIM card support, 2x 3-Cell Batteries, and Windows 10 Pro.
This is a very different laptop PC. They are quite expensive, but if you need a rugged durable laptop, this should be up to the task. There is also an IP-65 "Extreme" version as well.
There is a 256GB Version available amzn.to/34HycZU

An all business video without someone spending almost ten minutes taking product out of a box. Thanks man, right to the point. Much appreciated.
You're welcome!
Wasn't sure if I was going to get this at first, but after seeing it in detail this is exactly what I need. It'll be super nice in the shop and on my ranch. Thanks so much for the review!
You are very welcome!
A solid look. Thank you sir!
You bet!
Clean description, thanks
You're welcome!
just simply and directly.

Thnx
Thank you! That's the goal!
That was very helpful. Thanks!
Glad to help!
Great review
Thanks!
I would like to ask if the pink part of the heat sink covered by the cover needs to be removed?
As a note, I'm sitting here watching this video while on a Rugged 5420, it's the i5 model but still runs great.
Cool!
Same!
Hi my question is can i upgrade ram on the rugged 5430 / i5 ..[2022]?
What do you think compared to the Panasonic new model toughbooks? I am a diesel technician that is looking for a great long lasting easy upgradeable computer to scan cars and trucks store data, word doc excel doc and just a all around work computer plus youtube videos and do alil editing. No games added what do you think compared to the others out there? Thank you!
I haven't seen the new toughbooks yet, but that is what this Dell reminded of. This one is not the IP65 rated, but the "Extreme" version is. I would probably choose the Panasonic if it is priced competitively, because they have been making the toughbooks for a very long time, and they were always tried-and-true.
Hi, I want to know if native serial port is RS232 or RS422? Or it is both RS232 nad RS422 configurable from BIOS? If you can please check it for me from BIOS!
1 Native RS-232 serial port
I want it !!
It's pretty cool...
Really wish you spent some time showing how to remove the backplate, since mine does not "just lift off".
All I did was remove the screws. It does not have pop clips, so it should just lift off.
Hola ... Yo quiero esa computadora , pero la quiero para la Universidad 😃
¿Qué tan viable sería comprarla para eso ? ... Saludos y excelente video 🧸✨🧶
Maybe you know its dimensions with handle? Can't really find this info anywhere...
Unfortunately I can't. We haven't had one of these in in quite a while
Is there a bay to put an optical drive dvd/cd ? Call me old fashioned.
You can always add the USB external optical drive. Almost nothing has the ability to have one internal anymore. I like CDs as well!
how much does it weight with all bumpers and handle?
About 8 pounds.
I have the Latitude Rugged Extreme 7424, with 2 batteries on it, and Blu-ray Drive. It feels slightly less heavy than my Panasonic CF30 mk1, 1 battery with a DVD Drive. Hope that helps.
I work for a power company and our linemen use these. The speakers have really poor sound on these. Most likely you're not using them as a media center type of laptop and the Dell rugged docks don't have external antennae so those 3 antennae ports on the bottom are pretty much useless, you'll want to manually set the antennae option in the bios to onboard antennae for better reception and less issues. We're starting to phase these out and have moved to the 5430s which actually seem like a step down in build quality, plus you need to by a $65 adapter to fit the 5430s into the rugged docks. Dell doesn't make a different rugged dock so that's a bunch of bull.
Good to know, thanks for sharing this information!
Ouch! The price is just too high. I'm desperately searching for a spare rugged laptop for teaching online automotive classes at the shop and dog training classes in the field
You can get a good 8th Gen i5 refurbished on Amazon for $1300 - amzn.to/2FZxAon
I have one cheap if you wanna buy
The 5424 unit is slightly thicker than this one and has room for a built in optical drive.
I haven't seen that one yet!
Where is the hard drive located??
Tell me you didn't actually watch the video without telling me you didn't actually watch the video
I am a civil engineer in the army I use this. It's a Toughbook.
Cool!
