I can’t keep it together when I hear this song...memories of my precious 16-yr old niece being diagnosed with a particularly virulent strain of leukemia. “The book you were reading”...seeing Sarah read The Fault in our Stars at the lake house, even tho she knew it wasn’t going to turn out happy...prayers to God while begging on my knees for her to be well...when she died in her father’s arms at 6:30am...7 yrs and it still feels like yesterday. 💔

I know your pain that your going through . On March 25 of 2005 I sat at the hospital and waited to go in the room that my step daughter was in and going to have her first baby I was separate from my x wife at the time and waited to go in and they never came and got me and wouldn't let me she her at all . So I left and had to take my turn sitting with my middle sister who was dieing from bone cancer . It started as breast cancer and was in check for 5 years and came back in full force as bone cancer . I sat that day with her and cried my eyes out ! Cause I was loosing someone I loved and knew ! And lost someone I didn't know . My sister Diane died on 04-05-05 at 4:55 pm I lost her for ever and and I lost my granddaughter too. I was Divorced in June of 06 .I saw her one time and that was it they kept her away since . So yeah this song brings the tears very hard . May God be with you and ease your pain . Roger

I remember the first time I heard this song- I was in a psych ward doing artwork- listening to this just made everything more bearable. This was about 14 years ago and it was and will always be my favorite song. Sufjan has such a sweet and gentle voice- soft and non threatening- brings tears to my eyes the melody, the lyrics
and this rendition of the song- so, so beautiful.

I related to this too. I was there when my mom died from cancer and one moment suddenly I couldn’t find her next breath - I thought I missed something and searched for it for a few seconds and then I slowly realized she was gone.

Por qué "asustada"? No sabéis el sexo de la persona a quien se dirige en la canción. Queda ambiguo. Y si realmente fuera una historia real de Sufjan, estaría más cerca de ser un amor entre dos hombres.

Una auténtica obra de arte, como todas las joyas de Sufjan Stevens. Pero... por qué traduces como "asustada"? Por qué das por hecho el género femenino del personaje protagonista de la historia? "Asustada", con una camisa por fuera y unos zapatos desatados? Conoces la ambigüedad de Sufjan? Que tiene letras explícitamente gays? (una de ellas, la de esta canción) Por qué damos por hecho que los artistas (o cualquier persona), es hetero? En este caso, aunque él no lo haya reconocido explícitamente, lo que mejor le cae a los personajes de su historia es que sean dos hombres
