    Best explanation on CZcams. Its hard to do and I kinda do it a little naturally, but when I try, I cant get it right usually. It is difficult for me at least. Great video.

    You actually got this backwards. Turning towards the ground levels the car out. So in this situation, as you approach the jump you turn slightly right to get the car to rotate towards the direction of the corner (right) in the air. When the car is in the air, you then turn left to stop this rotation, and just before you land you turn right in the direction of the corner again. If you don't believe me, go watch some videos on youtube and slow them down with the speed setting behind the cog in the lower right corner of the video player.

    This is a good video because aside from whipping, it is important to know what the car is doing in the air when you turn the wheels left or right. Everyone pretty much knows what throttle and brake does in the air. But sometimes i will turn the wheels left or right in the air just to simply straighten the car out for landing, say if i took a jump a little sideways. So, sometimes it looks like im whipping or trying to and all im doing is flattening the car in the air for landing. Other times, like in your example, whipping is beneficial right into a turn.

    • @doctormosfet
      @doctormosfet  Před 5 lety

      Right, so my personal technique for straightening the car in a non-whip scenario is the blip the throttle rather than blip the steering. I just feel more comfortable doing that and then tapping the brakes to set up for the landing than in fiddling with the steering.

    Excellent presentation! Being a retired 1/8 buggy racer this was something I could never really master like the pro drivers and it definitely cost me slower lap times. I still managed pretty well but wasn’t on pace like the real fast guys. If you can master the whip it’s beneficial to faster lap times.

    Cant believe im gonna slightly disagree with you,your brilliant, based on your jump setup diagram/ when you leave the lip if you turn left first the right side will drop first and as you release and turn right as you land the car will level out

  • @watduheaw8941
    @watduheaw8941 Před rokem

    You got it backwards doc. If you turn right, the car will roll left, yaw left, and nose down. The more caster and kpi you have the more it will roll and nose down. If there was no caster or kpi, and you turn left mid-air, the car will do basically a flat spin, yawing to the right (clockwise looking top down). A car will never yaw left when turning left. That's impossible. Movements mid-air have to cancel each other out. Front wheel movement have to cancel out rear wheel movement when hinging at the kingpins.

      Well, it wouldn't be the first tutorial I messed up...haha.

  • @user-jy6jw6ck7p
    @user-jy6jw6ck7p Před 9 měsíci

    You got the rotation thing wrong. If the car is freewheeling in the air and you turn the wheel left...the car will not rotate left, It will rotate right. It will rotate right as well as roll right and nose down. The more caster you have, the more it will roll and nose down. Basically the car will hinge on the kingpins. Hold your car in the air. Have a friend hold the front wheel and keep it from moving. Now push the rear of the car to make the car effectively be turning left. That's what your 4wd car will look like in the air...but not as extreme. In reality the front wheels will move a little bit, and the rear of the car will move a little bit....they will meet each other half way.

    @8:26 that's not pitch or yaw its roll. Pitch would be making the nose go up and down and yaw is moving the nose left or right but level.

    I’m having a real hard time training myself to turn away from the turn first I always end up whipping the wrong way just trying to go fast😅

    • @doctormosfet
      @doctormosfet  Před rokem +1

      I never learned to whip, so I just don't even try. Sometimes I steer mid-air out of instinct if I see the car doing something weird and I try to catch it, but I don't make a point of whipping just for the sake of it. I tried it for one race years back and it didn't make me any faster. You'd have to be a very elite driver to even take advantage of it, in my opinion.

    Ok so I can not whip very consistently in 2wd. So what I tend to do in this type of , landing just b4 a turn is to hit the face of the jump slightly left of center (for a right hand turn) and attempt to land slightly Right of center to better negotiate the turn. I find that I personally can achieve this much mor constantly that whipping... tho I do continue to practice the manuver

    • @hysao9210
      @hysao9210 Před 5 lety +1

      Another dimension I like to add is using the throttle to level out your car plays a role as well depending on the jump face. I have a jump like this right now at our track. If you whip, you also have to brake slightly then throttle before you land or else you will chassis slap the rear. Man...I must say when you do land it, the feeling is awesome.

      Throttle control while airborne for me isn't an issue. I can downside landings and level out and all that. It's getting the timing of the "whip" process CONSISTENTLY enough to execute the maneuver during a race. The penalty for not hitting the sequence just right could mean that I end up in the C or D main.
