- Not many people get to experience going through an IPO as a shareholder or employee, so today I am showing you a day in the life during a tech IPO. I worked for AppLovin for a little over two years straight out of college and during that time vested company stock and before I left, I exercised my options. I started out as an entry level employee on the business development team and worked my way up to a Senior Analyst before I left a few months ago. AppLovin (APP) was listed on the NASDAQ on April 15th, 2021. Here is my experience on IPO day!

Hey, I hope you were happy with your work. I know you think you are a small fish in a big sea over there in Silicon Valley, and while that is true, if you compare that to how often it happens on a global scale then that should make you feel a little better because globally that does not happen every day, not even close to it, so congrats on being smart/lucky enough to join a start-up that actually went somewhere.

You haven't made anything before you sell. So to say you lost about 100k isn't true. You got 100k less that expected but you didn't loose anything. Remember you didn't have anything before marked opened. And the $80 was an expected price.

I think it depends on the company- most people exercise their options on vest or exit

congrats, thats some life changing money! how come you only get 4062 shares for 2 years when you got issued a total of 15k shares? shouldn't you have gotten 7.5Kish shares?
Thanks! Original package was 7.5K shares. I got another package of 7.5K shares after my promotion. I didn't end up fully vesting either package. In total my stock comp was 15K shares, but they weren't issued at the same time!

That’s going to be super subjective on performance and price of current stock, so I’m not sure there is a number I can give you there. Good luck though!
