  • Chris Berman, Tom Jackson, and Joe Theismann host ESPN NFL Primetime for 1997 Divisional Playoff Sunday, where Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21-7, while John Elway and the Denver Broncos edged the Kansas City Chiefs 14-10.
    Packers running back Dorsey Levens rushed for a team playoff record 112 yards and a touchdown while also catching four passes for 29 yards as the Green Bay defense held Tampa Bay to 90 rushing yards and intercepted two passes from Trent Dilfer, who completed only 11 of 36 passes for 200 yards.
    For the third consecutive year the AFC's No. 1 seed fell in the divisional playoffs. One week after avenging the previous year's playoff loss against Jacksonville, the Broncos avenged their 24-22 regular season loss in Kansas City by knocking the Chiefs out of the playoffs. Denver running back Terrell Davis ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Broncos to victory. Chiefs quarterback Elvis Grbac threw for 260 yards, but his team could only score 10 points. Receiver Andre Rison caught eight passes for 110 yards.

Since they both only got 1 ring despite having atleast a bye, if not home field pretty much every year.

    I was 13 in 1997. First time I ever heard of Gannon and I loved this team (even though I am a Miami native and love my fins)….when marty chose elvis, I never got it. Still don't. Gannon was ballin. Elvis is good but you don't break momentum when a guy has it

    • @jasonwalker9091
      @jasonwalker9091 Před 4 lety +2

      And look what Gannon became on the Raiders . KC faced controversy that year in 1997 with the QB situation

      @rickderris5294 Před 3 lety +3

      Most of us here in KC are still upset about. Although it was more of a Carl Petersen thing, since we gave Elvis all that money. Of course, a Mahomes and a Superbowl title helps wash away a lot of that pain now.

    • @tristarea08
      @tristarea08 Před 2 lety

      Hindsight is 20/20..Their numbers were about the same, and Grbac was about 5 years younger which was probably the big difference as to why we kept Elvis and not Gannon. Gannon benefitted from having Tim Brown and later both Brown and Rice in Oakland, so he had some good years in the twilight of his career..Regardless of that though, no one thought he was going to be a future MVP. He was very average in Kansas City

      @@tristarea08 hindsight my butt. I knew back then at 13 how good gannon was. Did I know he would be MVP? No.
      But I did know he was better than Grbac and had the momentum.
      I am not speaking from 2022 perspective. I speak from the perspective I had in 97 at 13.

    Welcome to the Crazy 8 Sunday with NFL Primetime! The Underdog Buccaneers shock the world with everybody as becoming America's Story but going into Green bay going into hostile territory with Sheriff Farve and the still World Champion Packers as Sapp and Farve have a great rivalry going into the 2000's but on this day we still have that Motto: Farve and Cheeseheads are the Law" 😊😊. In the Late AFC divisional on NBC in an icy, very cold Kansas city ( Familar in 1995,very cold) The almighty Chiefs with Elvis Grbac " Mr. Spider-Man " Peter Parker, Andre Rison and Marcus Allen in his final career game go up against the Broncos as John Elway would own Marty Schomitter again in " Hellway 3" as it would be Marty final playoff game in Kansas City as Terrell Davis still putting up big numbers in rushing yards in the playoffs as Neil Smith now a B-Men gets his revenge on his former team and a city where he made a name for himself alongside Derrick Thomas and Dan Salemmula. As Marty said in the post game " I don't feel cursed " You lost as a Browns coach against Denver in 1986 , you lost to Indy in 1995 with home field, thanks to Lin Elliott missed 3 field goals and be 13-3, here we are again in 1997 you lose against the man you opened up you're coaching career with Mr. 4th quarter,and lose again in 2004 against the Patriots and be 14-2, I can say he's cursed.
