Man Rappels Downs Cliff After 'Once-in-150-Years' Storm

- Remarkable video captures the moment a man was rappelling down a cliff alongside a waterfall as flash floods ripped through Utah. "My trip unexpectedly turned into a test of resilience and preparedness," says the thrill seeker. Motorists encountered nightmare conditions. A husband and wife are believed to have been swept away in the floods. Maranda and Ray Ankofski's vehicle was found but no sign of the couple.

The moab desert is so dangerous due to flash flood. Lots of off roaders travel through the low spots of large rock formation and the flash floods just appear out of nowhere.

They don’t appear out of nowhere. Torrential downpours cause the floods. Once it starts to rain, head for higher ground.

My brother was the one in the video rappelling next to the waterfall. They had no choice, the water would have pushed them over the upper ledge.

i Remember coming back from a camping trip until i got a amber alert about a flash flood alert it was pretty scary knowing that it was going to damage our house we came back and DUDE it was kinda teryfing the roads were flooded but not alot but were fine

Oh you must be a climatologist! What did your measurements and data tell you in defining this weather event? I assume your data told you something different than the other climatologists to say that’s it’s not a 150 year storm. Doesn’t it bother you as a climatologist when people insert their subjective opinion as a fact for defining weather events?
I work for BLM as trail patrol in this area. we study weather. we know this land like the back of our hands and this particular run off happens all of the time. that's why we posted signs.

You should share your findings with them so they can get the correct definition of this storm because as you know because you study weather, a 150 year storm is a definable definition. It’s not an opinion. As a study weather expert, does it bother you when people experience the Dunning Kruger effect in your field and call themselves an expert because they claim they have studied weather?
lastly..... those "meteorologists" get their data from the weather station WE operate. we give them the information.

So you gave them the data and they took that data and did the calculations and determined it to be a 150 year storm and then you took the data and did your own calculations and determined it to be a less severe storm right? Because that’s how that would work. You should tell them of your findings so they get it right. We wouldn’t want anyone’s anecdotal perception to determine the severity of the storm.

UPDATE: the search party found the guys pants with wallet hanging in a tree, which obviously was under water at some point, and he likely got swept at tremendous force against the tree branch, which ripped off his pants, as he carried on down the rip current...to his destiny....yikes...

The smart thing to do when mountains climbing would be to wear a Parachute for if you happen to loose grip you can drop and still be Safe by having a Safe landing....🤗 Common sense but sometimes it's not Common among folks.
Common sense says your chute would not fully open if you're falling along side a cliff, it would just snag along the rocks before it could fully deploy.
