The Simpsons Dying a Slow, Woke Death

- I’ve just found out the person who voices Bart, isn’t a 10-year-old boy. The person who voices Groundskeeper Willie, isn’t an angry Scotsman, and the person who voices Mr. Burns isn’t a real-life evil billionaire. I find this highly offensive and I demand they get appropriate voice actors to replace these charlatans! Obviously, I jest. But this is the absurd level society has reached. Welcome to the Death of The Simpsons (Woke Death).
As a kid, I loved The Simpsons, the American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening about a dysfunctional, Middle-American family. Sure, I’m Australian, but the issues covered in the earlier Simpsons’ episodes were universal, and it was funny.
I pretty much regularly watched The Simpsons up until around the time of the 2007 Simpsons Movie, and then I moved to China where I pretty much didn’t watch The Simpsons again, apart from the odd episode now and again. I kind of grew out of it, I suppose, and just wasn’t that interested in The Simpsons anymore.
Many fans will argue over when The Simpsons so-called Golden Age ended, but it’s usually around Season 9 in 1997, with the episode “The Principal and the Pauper” commonly cited as a turning point in the show’s quality. I’m not here to discuss that, but the number of viewers has been in decline for many years now. In this presentation, though, I’m not here to discuss why this happened. I’m here to discuss what’s happened in the last few years.
In 2017, the character of Apu, one of my favourite characters, who was voiced by Hank Azaria, was cancelled, essentially. A 2017 documentary called The Problem with Apu, written by comedian Hari Kondabolu, criticised the character as a South Asian stereotype showing bias along racial/ethnic lines, and in the same vein as “blackface”, critics referred to Azaria’s portrayal of Apu as “brownvoice”. I am not joking.
In 2018, the boys at South Park lampooned the documentary by creating an episode called “The Problem with a Poo”, where Mr. Hankey is expelled and sent to a land where people don’t care about bigotry and hate - Springfield!
In 2019, Disney took over 21st Century Fox, meaning The Simpsons, among other franchises and studios, became property of The Walt Disney Company. Yes, here were go.
In 2020, the powers that be decided that black characters could no longer be voiced by white voice actors because of the “stereotypes and bias it perpetuated”. Characters like Carl, who was originally voiced by Azaria, was re-cast with an African American voice actor, Alex Désert, who now also voices police sergeant Lou.
Homer strangling Bart has been a long-running gag with more than 140 strangulations being depicted throughout the first 31 seasons (not just Homer and Bart, but mostly). But apparently the times have changed, and now it’s suddenly become unacceptable to depict scenes of a cartoon father strangling his cartoon children, “Homer has stopped strangling Bart in The Simpsons and it’s about time”, says the Guardian. Although other reports are saying that “The Simpsons Co-Creator Says Homer Will Keep On Strangling Bart: Nothing’s Getting Tamed”. So I really don’t know what’s going on.
For 30 years, Dr. Hibbert was voiced by Harry Shearer, but in 2021, the producers decided that the voice actor’s real ancestry had to match Dr. Hibbert’s fictional ancestry, you know, to appease Black Lives Matter or whatever, so they changed the voice actor to Kevin Michael Richardson. The same thing happened to all the other non-white (what am I saying?), non-yellow characters. It’s strange, you can’t be discriminated against and denied a job based on the colour of your skin, but, you now apparently can’t be given an audition or a job to voice a fictional cartoon character that has a skin colour that doesn’t match the colour of your real skin. Harry Shearer found the whole thing rather ridiculous and said, “I have a very simple belief about acting… The job of the actor is to play someone who they’re not.” Hear, hear. It’s funny, these new voice actors had to mimic the voices of the old characters in order to not get the fans upset. So basically, we have a black guy mimicking a white guy playing a black doctor. It’s just absurd when you think about it.
Anyway, that sort of sums up where The Simpsons is at. It was once a loved TV show, but now is in its death throes. I can’t see how this can go on for much longer. Unfortunately, these people who are constantly crying “racism”, are probably the most racist people of all, in that all they constantly seem to do is categorise people into racial and ethnic groups. I think that probably they are very unhappy people. They’re certainly not interested in unity and togetherness, quite the opposite. They’re more interested in hatred and division. Rest in peace The Simpsons. You were once great, but Disney or whoever has slowly destroyed you.

It was over since they went to HD. They need to end it already.

The Last Kingdom was surprisingly free of that and so was Vikings - Vikings Valhalla though...
MERLIN sure was distracting, but fortunately Merlin and Arthur's relationship made it worth watching!
As soon as that Apu fiasco happened, the writing was on the walls. I've never been so embarrassed for a TV show. I had quite a few Indian colleagues and even they felt this was sad, desperate and cringe, and that they in fact had ZERO issues with Apu, finding him as funny as I did.
I have a buddy of mine that is from India, owns all of the 7-11's in my area, and used to laugh out loud when we watched the Simpsons together and Apu was on.
He was pissed as heck when he found out they were canceling Apu.
Worse, they had the nerve to cancel Apu over claims he was a horrible stereotype.
You mean the supposedly illegal over-stayer who runs a successful business, has a Ph.D in Computer Science, dated all the single ladies in Springfield, won a Grammy, is chief of the town's volunteer fire fighting team, is happily married and has multiple children and has multiple episodes where he is the main character of the episode is a horrible stereotype??
Compared to what? The awesome Scottish stereotype of Groundskeeper Willie?
The brilliant representation of Mexicans by Bumblebee Man?
The great representation of Italians by the Italian chef and the Mafia??
Also the apu character was smart..it didn't make Indian problem look stupid ..what's dumb is thst they ruined a gear TV show ..its totally unwatchable now nor funny .
I have seen his figurine on Indian-owned liquor store counters in California. A lot of the stuff from the early years of *The Simpsons* makes sense if you spent any time on the West Coast in the 20 years proceeding it. I did because I was visiting my relatives in California.

Simpson was popular because it was relateable.
Relateability > diversity
Agreed, being relatable brings in more viewers than diversity.
When it comes to humans, diversity for diversity's sake is NEVER a good idea. How so many people fell for such an OBVIOUS lie is beyond me. Unity is a strength, NOT diversity. Forced diversity has been nothing but a TERRIBLE idea. No civilization on the planet still exists that had it's population invaded by other cultures.
At least the first 7-8th seasons. Everything after that was when all the major writing talent went on to pursue other things while simpsons degraded into a shell of its former self. It needs to be put out of its misery already.
Getting rid of Apu really made the show more diverse
Simpsons should have went of the air 20 years ago. The show has been stale for decades at this point.
Contrary to what some say, Disney did not cause the decline of the Simpsons. It was already in a free-fall quality wise; Disney just sent the process into warp speed.
I guess they will hire real aliens to be the voices of Kang and Kodos too.
The thing with Apu is that every single character on the simpsons is a stereotype. I have italian blood and the only italian characters are mobsters and that over the top "hey giuseppe" chef, but who cares, it's hilarious.
The show has been in decline since the movie came out, but its been in sharp sharp decline since the Apu voice was changed

The Simpsons has been like this since the early 2000s. Pushing Ieftoid politics on their show.
It's like he just started binge watching the simpsons a few days ago and he's now surprised to find out.
It's staring to become obvious that most of the content that the right part of youtube is making is for views and nothing else.
This video couldn't have been made in the early 2000s, obviously, because the Apu thing didn't happen till 2017, and all the BLM / voice-actors-must-match-the-characters'-skin-colour didn't happen until the 2020s. And yes, views are a big part of CZcams (for both Left and Right). To say only one side of politics is chasing views is disingenuous. And yes, I have made content about this before, but it was back when my channel had little viewership, so very few people got to see it. I've revisited the topic as it's something I think many people are interested in.

@@scanspeak00That is racist! How daré You?
One of the things I loved about the early Simpsons was how they constantly trashed the Fox network they were on, and Fox had to grin and bear it because the Simpsons was so popular. But they’ve bent the knee to Disney. Sad.
They have taken jabs at Disney. One episode had a news paper headline saying Disney sells Fox
How is that a jab at Disney? That's so toothless. They were always relentless about Fox. They used to be relentless against Disney until they were bought by them.
They created an entire episode out of Poochie just to mock the network for wanting to put a "cool character" that the kids could relate to. THAT was comedy gold.....Now Poochie would probably check every DEI box sadly and they wouldn't get to the fireworks factory!
Hillarious, because they got away with saying stuff during the patriot act era that would have been career ending for anyone else. Now they tiptoe around Disney and cancel culture like a bunch of nancies.
If it mess with the mouse it gets the hose again.
The Simpsons is a perfect analogy for the decline of modern America, honestly.
Also it still peeves me that they retired Apu, (one of the most well developed characters in the series), simply because some hack "comedian" finds him offensive
Apu was the greatest character ever and they TRASHED hijm. Ned Flanders...a conservative family man...TRASHED
Early Flanders was actually a great representation of a Christian father. Although he had his sins, he meant well as a husband and father accurately depicting the struggle of living out his faith even around neighbors like homer.... and then they degraded him to be a judgmental stereotype.... ironically killing the show in the name of fighting stereotypes...
@@adorkychristiandad
This is nowadays called Flanderization, taking a complex fictional character and simplifying them into a mere stereotype. And what happened to Ned Flanders is what named this trope.
The Simpsons used to be counter culture, like Married With Children it was meant to be a backlash against the stereotypical happy family portrayed by typical sitcoms of the era.
The point of stereotypical characters in this series was to lampoon the stereotypes. Chief Wiggum was an obese, lazy, corrupt, doughnut munching cop. Barney is the stereotypical alcoholic. Comic Book Guy is literally named after the stereotype he's lampooning.
I was unfortunate enough to catch the Star Wars special this year and couldn't stomach beyond a few minutes. It has devolved into the saccharine crap that it was supposed to be making fun of.

@@jasonlewis3742 Its so apparent to... they try to draw the celebrities and they look nothing like Simpsons characters.
This is what happens when the counter culture becomes the culture. A conservative show would actually be pretty edgy now
The guy who invented blackface was an abolitionist, who used it to convey the feelings of black people to those who might otherwise be closed-minded.
The knee-jerk hatred of the genre without acknowledging this positive origin pairs well with the insanity of claiming Apu is in "brownvoice", when he did so much to humanize Indian people to ignorant Americans, and was even beloved as a familiar character to so many people from India.
I mean kind if.
If you were to rank the simpsons characters in order of , say, socio economic status you might put put Barney at the bottom, Mr Burns at the top , Homer, Skinner, Carl, Sargent Lou, somewhere in the middle. Between the middle and the top you might have Apu, Dr Hibbert, Krusty. The point is, the Simpson’s never put their ethnic minority characters at low socio economic status. They’re average or above average. If the simpsons were trying to uphold outdated racist stereotypes then they weren’t doing a very good job of it.
And that’s my two cents.
The same can be said about “lawn jockeys”. They were originally used to identify underground railroads help. Certain colors meant certain things to help run away slaves.
@@lemmdus2119 There is no evidence for that claim.
People forget that prejudice against black people at the time meant that white people playing black music weren't accepted either but a white person dressing up as a black person was okay as it was keeping that social distance while being more like a stage performance. In other words it wasn't a white person adopting black music, it was an act showing something exotic.
Too little too late, the simpsons LITERALLY showed a strangling scene TWO EPISODES LATER after they made the joke of Homer stopping with the strangling.

All of Abe Simpson's army buddies died in season 7, episode 22. Rewriting the history of the characters tells you the show has long been over. Which it has, it ended with season 9. Anything after that isn't the simpsons.
...What happened in the trenches, stayed in the trenches....

Which is absurd since there already was an older episode where they find Abe's old wrestling gear and Marge thinks he's gay, which Abe clearly denies.
That was the exact episode that did it for me as well.
Signed, a former diehard Simpsons fan since it's inception on the Tracey Ullman Show😢
I guess I must've stopped watching before that point.
For me the point that simpsons had a big decrease of quality was when flander's wife died and then s20,s21 were the worst
All because they didn't want to pay her actress, Maggie Roswell, more money or let her record remotely after she moved to a different state. It wasn't even that Maude died necessarily, but HOW they did it. It was clearly done just to spite the actress rather than to tell a good story.
The Simpsons, once a show that criticised the establishment, now celebrates it.

I stopped after the movie where Homer talks directly to the audience, telling them they’re “suckers” for having paid for a ticket. I thought, damn, you’re right
@@Yalbou yes the 9th season was the last even remotely decent season
The show is 35 years old... it has to end sometime.
Futurama is still gold.
@@Ellio88 Futurama is fkn great
Of course, It does
Everything has a perceivable end. The Simpsons reached theirs long ago, many say it was after 10 seasons.
Probably because Futurama had a "cool down period" Simpsons is a slop churner thats quantity over quality.
This video have some great construction to it. Some good old days flashbacks, harsh facts getting thrown at you, quick sad ending, reminding how fast things come and go, like how I witnessed the rise and fall of my childhood favourite cartoon, and then this music starts, which unironically made me cry a little, and to make it worse you can look at Homers face while listening to it.
Some good shit
To anyone who's followed The Simpsons for decades like I have:
The death of The Simpsons began around the time Ned Flandera' wife died. It's almost like a coincidence, but it WAS the early 2000s when the quality began to seriously drop. One critic put it something like,
"The early episodes would end with Marge and Homer riding off on a two-person bike into the sunset. The newer episodes would end with some wacky thought-up scene that means nothing. "
The glory days of the 90s are long gone and if you were lucky enough to be there during our last real golden age, hold those memories like keys to your heart.
The Simpsons hasn’t been relevent for 25 years, nobody cares if it vanished overnight. The great pirate in the cloud had all the quality Simpsons episodes anybody could ever need.
Futurama too...still accurate...
People only care because they're waiting to ask: "Why now? Why not 20 years ago?"
@@Ellio88 Futurma is just gone.
I haven't watched for at least 10 years or more.
I moved to an area without OTA TV. My only TV comes from ROKU via my lousy DSL. I missed The Simpsons more than any other show, but apparently I'm not missing anything worth watching.
20 years for me
Shits been dead 25 years
Thank you for making this video. You hit every nail right on the mark
The Simpsons was still going?
People watched it?
I find that hard to believe
It is still most likely popular due to the success of the earlier seasons. Family Guy, Star Wars, Marvel, and many other series glide along due to how good they were, not how good they are
So… is tropic thunder also illegal now too or…?
No they tried but were basically told to STFU 😂
@@thecausalgamer7916 so there is hope. Excellent
@@trucebuildman I just heard Mr. Burns in that "Excellent" there LOL
I never liked " Tropic Thunder ". Scientologists are a cancer .
You struck a chord with me. I wasn’t allowed to watch the Simpsons growing up either… started sneaking it on tv in the basement when I was in seventh grade. I adored the show back then. Now I turn it on and just feel sad watching it.
There is a newer episode where the wokeness wasn't even hidden.
In this episode (I forgot the name) Lisa has to write an essay about a special ancestor, but most of the Simpsons' ancestors are criminals. She then finds an old diary of a girl from the 19th century who is an ancestor of Homer. When she reads the diary, it turns out that this generation of Simpsons were slave owners. When Lisa reads this passage, all the Simpsons screamed at the same time and said worriedly "We are descended from slave owners?"
I mean, at the beginning of the episode it's said that they are also descended from gangsters and serial killers, but the slave owners are the only one they're worried about?
Anyway, it's said that this girl's mother ran away with a slave, married him and had a son with him who was Abraham's great-great-grandfather.
The episode ends with Lisa proudly saying something like: "We are part of a minority because of Dad"
I mean yes owning slaves is horrific. My ancestors were never really in a position of power excepf a handful of times.
@@user-cw3wm9lx7w how I said. The Simpsons also had gangsters and murderers as ancestors (according to this episode), but the slave owners are the only they're worried or disappointed about.
@@sushijuice440 yeah enslaving people is worse. But my ancestors came here as indentured servants, and were refugees feom famine. Prior to that they were vikings, celtic warriors, and Genghis khan.
Black people: "wahhh everyone feel sorry for me everyone is picking on me!" 🙄
*before Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, the Land O' Lakes girl, the Eskimo Pie Eskimo, and the Cream of Wheat chef got canceled*
Colored people: corporate logos depicting us are racist!
*Now*
Colored people: Why do all corporate logos depict white people, you racists?
The classic victim mentality.
It's funnier when it's the rich black millionaire Hollywood actors complaining.
Professional victims and looters
That’s ignorant and dumb af not all black people are like that it’s not there fault disney sucks in fact I’ve seen plenty who hate Disney
Life itself is in decline
When it comes to recasting - it's basically something that's bound to happen as the cast ages (just look how horrible Mr Burns sounds now), but powers that be just have to virtue signal.
It died the moment that episode a panda did what he did to Homer. You know the one.
Sometimes the fences are there for a reason ... only when you knock them down do you figure out theres a bull in the field
They're all doing the wokey-cokey, the dance trend devastating popular culture. Oh Wokey-Cokey Cokey, ooooh Wokey-Cokey Cokey, yeah Wokey-Cokey Cokey, Get Woke, go Broke, rah rah rah!
3:23 This graphic is basically a graph of how much western society has fallen into disarray. I remember the mid 90s to mid 2000s being a grand time, then once 2009-11 hit, it all went down hill very fast
The 90s was when 'political correctness', the leftist media and their ghai propaganda were ramped up. Now known as 'woak'.
I was born in the 1960's and a huge fan of THE SIMPSONS.
Around 2000 the storylines were more and more from bad quality and I stopped watching this series.
So many families in US - sitcoms are full of the same stereotypes!
Father: Ugly, often very fat, not interested in culture, literature or good food and proud of it.
Mother: Regarding her husband as a child, being more representative, but by heard also a very simple person.
Daughter: Hysterical, complicated...
Son: A nerd and the parents often thinking he could be gay, because he is so "European", intellectual and different.
This was strange to me, to speak french, playing piano or being good in science are for European people not the proof for being gay.
So I was bored by all the stereotypes of gay people, but this is a part of those mass- productions for television.
But this woke criticism seems crazy for me.
I started out as Bart's contemporary. By now, Homer is a young fool. It'll probably still be around, worse than ever, when I become grandpa.
Its interesting just how fragile the entertainment industry can be, even when its a nearly 40 year old cartoon that refuses to end.
Wow. The cartoon will be 40 in 2027.
Simpsons started declining when N'SYNC got on in 99 or 2000.
By the end of the 90's, I tuned out and never looked back.
By that theory The Simpsons yellow characters should be voiced by Asian actors
Or with a very serious liver condition.
The Simpsons died from Season 11 onwards - the first 10 seasons (with exception of a few episodes here and there) were and still are some of the most amazing TV ever invented and aired.
Well don't blame me. I voted for Kodos.
but the simpsons are good again
@@Monitor_Head
Anything with woke in it inevitably turns to sh*t. Because wokeness is descended from Communist thought, and that is very much into thought control, "no fun allowed" territory.
Another problem is the show is perpetually stuck in the '90s. The Simpson's still have a landline phone on their kitchen wall. Homer's car still looks like an old '70s or early '80s clunker.
That’s a pretty cool niche, making it past time helps everyone relate
Actually, they do show laptops, smart phones, comment on social media trends, I think they commented on Donald Trump's presidency. They only retain a few classical elements, much of the show has moved into the contemporary era, for better or worse. Mostly for worse.
I wanted to make this video for a while now, but you did first. It was supposed to be just what you're saying in the beginning. Apu had to go because he was a harmful stereotype, and so is the overly protective and worried mother, the cartoonishly evil business owner, the stereotypically dimwitted father, the dodgy dive bar owner stereotype, the bumbling boffin stereotype, the overweight socially awkward comicbook fan stereotype, the cynical disinterested teacher stereotype, the... and so on and so forth - they all had to go, leaving Springfield an eerie ghost town.
So, who is doing all the voices for the yellow characters?
Jaundice Abdul?
They are currently scouring the hospitals for hepatitis B patients to voice all the yellow characters...😒👍
Your comment made my day😂
@@DAN985 you're welcome 😊 👍🇦🇺
Who cared about Apu ? WE DOOOOOO... 😢
I hope they still do Christmas and treehouse of horror specials though I’ve watched these since I was a kid
What the Simpsons is making a parody of, or rebelling against, died in the early 2000's
The one income nuclear family is close to extinct and is out of reach for young aspiring parents. Generation Baby-boom is no longer raising kids and the new families have different circumstances and power dynamics. The show was relevant and spot on 30-20 years ago. Wokeness also took its toll making The Simpsons along with everything else it touches un-enjoyable.
Loved the Simpsons back in the day. It’s inevitable that the writers will run out of ideas, panic, and then make bad decisions (like going woke). I lost interest when the whole Apu racism shemozzle was happening.
There are only two ways of becoming equal, death or ridicule
Peaked at the season 6 finale Who Shot Mr Burns Part One and decline was when we found out who shot him. Seasons 7-8 didn't have the consistency of the first 6. That Skinner episode is when it really went downhill. Over the first six seasons the focus gradually was taken off the family and moved onto the townsfolk, which may have also been a factor.
i really can’t stand when people complain that Apu is a stereotype.. why? CUZ ALL THE CHARACTERS ON THE SIMPSONS ARE STEREOTYPES! that’s the whole point of the satire.
either way, the stereotype of the indian convenience store worker doesn’t actually tell the whole truth (like most stereotypes). the reason indians are often seen at small stores and gas stations, etc is because they OWN them. in fact, if you ask your local indian gas station worker, i guarantee the boss (who will also be indian if you’re not already talking to him) will actually own multiple stores or gas stations. most of those big name stores like 711, and pretty much all gas stations are actually franchises, so while they might have to supply certain items, etc. the stores are actually owned by the people who run them. (this is also similar for many fast food places. all the McDonald’s in my area seem to be owned by the same hispanic family, as they all have the “A [blank] family restaurant” sign in their windows).
the convenience stores and gas stations have been a path out of poverty and into significant wealth for many indians, it’s a shame so many people think they should BE ashamed of it.
35 years ongoing. They should've ended about 15 - 20 years ago. A product of the late 80s - early 90s doesn't reflect today's society, hence why The Simpsons quality declined.
They changed to fit into todays world and decided to side with the liberals instead and it’s killing them badly.
Everything Disney touches turns into pure shit. Everything.
Better fire Christopher Judge from Kratos' VA role then.
I went to school with a guy named Bart and that was before the Simpsons ever aired and it was short for Bartholomew 😂😂😂
His name in the series is Bartholomew too
@@diestecs I haven’t watched the show for over 25 years it went down hill in the late 90’s and it’s gotten worse over the years I seen a video the other week and they were pointing out how woke the show has become and I don’t go along with woke I avoid anything or any person who is woke like the plague.
Harry Kondabalu is one of those social justice comedians. Margaret Cho showed us how hilarious they end up.
Great video mate! I cannot simply watch New Simpsons... it's sad...
Who would have thought that Southpark would be the last safe space? I suppose it’s because the creators don’t like or put up with BS.
South Park is controlled opposition and sold out ages ago. The last truly good season was 8 back in 2004. I never understood why people rip on modern Simpsons and Family Guy when modern South Park has been far worse for far longer.
