Almost had it right, you dont want to use PAPER void fill for heavy objects because after you tape the box shut it compresses and after moving it around a few times flattens out then offers no padding/cushioning what so ever. Need foam blocks or lots of LARGE size bubble wrap, the Green stuff you used is fine for pedals, tubes etc, but nothing over 30lbs and not in layers either - small bubble is for small stuff.
Also making sure all the screws are tight on the chassis, and the nuts or screws that hold the speaker, its also good to make sure the reverb PANs are secure even better put a small block of foam inside the reverb pan so the springs dont break when ups or fedex carelessly drop kicks the amp..

Do amp manufactures ship amps to shops with tubes not installed and then leave it to shop employees to install? Don't think so!
Why is this video recommending folks to do so?

Absolutely do NOT remove the tubes. They are safe right where they are. That's how the amp shipped to you in the first place. You risk damaging them more this way than by leaving them in place. Float the amp from the ends in foam. Do not pack with material all around it or you will transfer all the shock of an impact directly to the amp. The best packing material is AIR.

Man, there was more material being used than whatever the amplifier sold for (after Paypal fees, and Reverb's seller fees)

what if it's a heavy vintage with original JBLs and really heavy... i couldn;t possibly lift mine up to put in a box! it'd fall through a double-wall box too. so heavy.... any suggestions?

yeah that paper technique is not good enough. They need to demonstrate in the video the importance of using a lot more paper (or bubble wrap) than shown in this video. I don't advise using papper UNLESS it is crumpled in tight balls and using a lot more than demonstrated here. at least 3 inches of padding on all sides and NO MOVEMENT should be taking place when you move the package, other wise it will get damaged in shipping.
