His unique style of reporting and exciting lifestyle have not only endeared him to audiences but also made him a popular subject for parody on the BBC Scotland sports comedy "Only an Excuse?"

    Chick Young's journey with the BBC has seen him become a prominent football commentator. His involvement with Sportsound began in October 2009, when he hosted episodes two to three times a month. Beyond commentating, Young also expresses his insights on Scottish football through his online column "Chick Young's View" on the BBC website, where he shares his perspectives on matches and players.
    A memorable incident in his career occurred in 2008 during a football game involving Members of the Scottish Parliament in Glasgow. Young sustained a serious ankle injury that not only sidelined him from the match but also forced him to miss a charity golf event the following day.

    In 1978, Young married Sally Carr, the lead singer of the 1970s pop group Middle of the Road. The couple had a son, Keith, in 1980. Although Young and Carr separated in 1984, they never divorced and maintained a friendship. A tragic incident occurred in 2001 when his son Keith died at the age of 20 in a road accident, profoundly impacting Young's life.

    Chick has been an abysmal journalist and is a prime example of why nobody can take the Scottish sports media seriously.
