In 1978, Young married Sally Carr, the lead singer of the 1970s pop group Middle of the Road. The couple had a son, Keith, in 1980. Although Young and Carr separated in 1984, they never divorced and maintained a friendship. A tragic incident occurred in 2001 when his son Keith died at the age of 20 in a road accident, profoundly impacting Young's life.
