I'll admit it. I get confused by impulse speed. Sometimes it seems to be really fast and other times it's a crawl! In Star Trek 6 they leave out at 1/4 impulse and they go FLYING out!!!

There is a channel called Certifiably Ingame that has several videos on Impulse engines and speeds. He tries to use canon when he can, but the canon in the various iterations has been a bit all over the place, much like how warp speeds are a hodge podge of numbers.

@@kentvesser9484 EXACTLY! In ST 3, Kirk orders 1/4 Impulse, and they CRAWL outta space dock. 6, he orders same speed, the go out like a catapult on an aircraft carrier!!

They only got found out because of Kirk's continued insistence on using impulse power in spacedock instead of thrusters.

You forget the ship was in bad shape. Probably with a stolen a better ship if they have the codes for it.
