Actually it's jewish scholars who first linked factory farming with the holocaust. For example an author Isaac Bashevis Singer is one of them. He actually himself lived during the holocaust, though he himself experienced it from the US, not from Europe. So it's not something that vegan teacher or even white vegans came up with.

Regardless of how terrible this woman is, I'm pretty sure her sarcasm here is because it's not true. The "my friend went vegan and died" is a very very common made-up 'argument' from people who enter vegan communities and attack the members there. It stems from the stereotype that only meat has protein or iron, and therefore all vegetarians and vegans are weak and pale and dying of malnutrition. The fact that the commenter claimed he tried to feed his friend meat to save him, as opposed to literally any other nutritious substance, or take him to the hospital or call an ambulance or whatever, is a good indicator that the comment is one of these common nonsensical attacks on veganism itself, not on Vegan Teacher. You could go onto a harmless cooking blog with a vegan recipe on it and you'll see the same claims on there. I guarantee you that their friend didn't die.

I went vegan without doing much research on it before and suffered from malnutrition as well, obviously not as severe as dying from it, but I felt weak and shitty all the time (nowadays I know what to eat to be healthy). It was linked to my ED since a lot of Pro Ana sites advertise veganism, without teaching how to actually get the nutritious you need. The sad reality is that a lot of people suffering from eating disorders will turn to veganism/vegetarianism because it's considered to be more healthy (less calories and fat) and allows you to justifiably cut out lot of foods. And their malnutrition gets linked to veganism/vegetarianism.
The malnutrition doesn't come from veganism itself in this case, obviously. But if you don't know this person has an ED - for example - you will think the malnutrition comes from it. I sadly know someone who died from her ED. She was vegetarian and her parents claimed that it was what killed her, since they didn't know about her ED. Again, obviously her vegetarian die wasn't what killed her (at least on primarily, I can imagine it probably contributed), it was her ED, but for others who don't know it comes across like this.

I do know that many ppl who struggle with food or body image reach to veganism and bc of that it, unfortunately, never works out which is why the diet gets so much backlash in western countries. I don’t think that most vegans believe that everyone can or should go vegan. It all comes down to need, if you NEED animal products, can’t afford to go vegan, or don’t live in an area that has enough resources to eat a plant based diet, than eating animals and/or their products is justified. At the end of the day it’s a personal choice.

That's not why vegans get criticized. But because vegans force you to think about immorality of your actions (animal cruelty) that people don't want to hear about because otherwise they would need to change their lifestyle and come out of their ignorance. Okay, when she pointed out the wool industry being harmful to the animals. I have been studying large animal health and industry for the past year now and have been to a lot of the facilities from dairy farms to beef farms, to sheep, I have seen the practices they use and have studied the rules and regulations of both animal wellness and safety. Her claim that shearing sheep is abusive is simply illogical. A sheep's hair grows so fast and is so thick that it actually causes problems to animals when not sheared yearly. The shearing of sheep is mainly done to prevent an illness called flystrike, where insects called blowflies lay their eggs in the wool to which maggots hatch and start burrowing into the live tissues of the sheep, which can be fatal if not detected early enough (NADIS). The sheep are sheared once or twice a year to prevent this very painful illness and flock owners generally don't make a lot of money if any at all from the wool. It's just not something that makes money anymore unless you own sheep bred specifically to make high-quality wool (most producers do not). It's mainly for their health, nothing more. This woman claiming that it is abusive to prevent further avoidable illness shows how illogical her arguments are and prove how little effort she puts into researching the claims she makes on her accounts.
Yes, killing animals will always be required in a meat diet, but how the industry goes about it has changed tremendously thanks to the work of Dr. Temple Grandin. She has introduced a plethora of new rules and regulations to measure the wellbeing of each and every animal from cows to poultry and has made so many great strides towards raising happier less stressed animals. @@CourtZilligen If you're really passionate about something, you'll research about a lot of things and be conscious of what you use. Also, being vegan is a way of life not only in food (not a fact, it's just how I view it). Guess she doesn't understand that.
Not to defend her, but just wanted to point out that being vegan is about doing what you can to minimise harm as far as is personally practical and possible to do so, and I can imagine not everyone has the time to be researching which permanent markers are vegan, particularly I have in mind any lower socio-economic, disabled or mentally ill vegans who might not have the time or physical or mental energy or ability to research every little thing. But that is news to me and definitely something to keep in mind.

yeah, there are way too many cases of people comparing things to the holocaust and nazis, i'd understand comparing someone who has killed millions to hitler, but comparing eating animals or someone correcting your grammar?

But, the way she brings it up is immature and random and seems insensitive, making her comparison make no sense and it's pissing people off.
The way she brought it up was wrong, but technically the comparison is correct. Trillions of animals die yearly, are bred and grown to be slaughtered at 1/6th of their lifespans, are killed by gas chambers, bolts to the head, etc.
@@Middleearthian it is i guess a technically correct term when going by the definition, but it’s simply way too sensitive of a topic for vegans (myself included) to compare animal slaughter to. comparing animal slaughter to the holocaust doesn’t do anyone any good, it gives the vegan community a bad name and we already have too many white supremacist/racist “vegans” in the community. there’s much better ways to highlight the animal cruelty in the animal agriculture industry than comparing it to traumatic events having to do with oppressed groups (slavery and the holocaust)
