    I would like to add to my first question to help clarify. I know from your very helpful comments and video that these two engine choices would come down to the track. More technical tracks with challenging conditions (Rotax) longer straight away tracks with hot and dry conditions (X30) That being said if you can only choose one engine and travel throughout Europe which engine class would give you more opportunities to compete at the highest level?
    Thank you ,
    Jud

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  Před 3 lety

      that I am not sure, but would depend on the tracks you want to go to and the competition level you are racing at. go with a Rotax if you are new and not decided and them travel to those events I suppose

      take off about 4-6 teeth off the rear or go up one front sprocket and send it! the engine has heaps more mid range and will pull the lower gearing, so your top speed should go up about 5-8kph

    Quick question, you say red lines of around 14000 and 16000 but clearly power has dropped off long befor that. Rotax making power from sort of 7 to 11000 and x30 more 8 to 12000 whats going on after that? Just looking at the graphs you would asume both engines seem to have a good 4000rpm of strong useable power befor they start to drop off, why would anyone consider holding on for another 3000rpm to red line only to keep loosing power? I would love to see whats happening on the dyno graph, power wise, right up to the red line.

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  Před 4 lety +2

      that's right JND, the top end revs of most 2 strokes run out of power. the bulk of most engines 'power' is in a 5k rev range. being single speed racers, gear ratio selection is critical for passing your competition.

  • @warrenrefrigerationservice654

    Great video once again.

  • @nogueiradriverdevelopment

    Hey there, do you have any dyno comparison between engines like the X30 with the old exhaust pipes (the ones that you can use that flexible arm and change the lenght), i wanted to check exactly how the lengh change of the flexible alters rpm in which the peak torque happens.f

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  Před 2 lety

      no I don't have those exactly, but I can tell you that a longer pipe moves the power to the bottom end and a shorter pipe takes the power from the bottom end and adds it to the top end. similar to lifting or lowering the cylinder base gaskets

    • @nogueiradriverdevelopment
      @nogueiradriverdevelopment Před 2 lety

      @@PowerRepublicThanks! But It shifts the torque/power curve so you get the peak torque in a higher speed? Or does it stay the same and just takes from one side and adds to the other (kinda of changing the shape of the curve entirely) ?

    @jasonleslie6366 Před 5 lety +1

    Another very insightful Derek, as I race a Rotax against X30’s here in the US.. One question though, when it comes to determining the best gearing to use, what do you look at? Minimum/Max RPMs? Or should you target a certain average RPM for the whole lap? And if so, what might you recommend for the Rotax EVO?

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  Před 5 lety

      Hey Jase, I would look for you top KPH and make sure you are not low at the end of the main straight (compared to your competitors). The X30's run 8-12 teeth more than the Rotax but rev nearly 2000 rpm more, so maybe try lowering your Gear ratio's so that at the end of the main straight you are only at 13600-13800 rpm but your KPH speed is increasing. If you take teeth off and the top speed is not increasing then your not gaining by taking teeth off and you will have to re-investigate.

    • @pressman1234
      @pressman1234 Před 5 lety +1

      @@PowerRepublic it can also be track dependent with the evo , we have on track here with very long gearing , max 13000 rpm , its the quickest way around with max kph as well , another its 14500 to get max kph . so testing is the only way

    • @PowerRepublic
      @PowerRepublic  Před 5 lety

      yeah those short twisty tracks you can gear them up a little to rev harder, but KPH will be down. then the long tracks gear down and the speed will be up. super flexible engine

    Awesome video mate! Question for you, What would be your preference between X30 and Rotax? Ive only ever run a Rotax in 125 classes (other than KT light many years ago outside running a Rotax) and always struggled with the drive-ability of them, or more precisely you just have to be super patient on the throttle. have been tossing up switching to X30 to get around that or just keep running what ive already got

      The new EVO style Rotax’s (Or EVO upgraded old style rotaxs) have fixed almost all of the throttle problems of the old style carbies and power valves IMO. Otherwise if you’re a KT style driver, you are going to love the power delivery of the X30. If you have the budget get the X30 in this instance.
