Had this happen a few years ago on a 2001 Honda Rancher that I bought new. It had been starting perfectly I always had a battery maintainer hooked to it since I bought it new. One day I tried to start it, nothing it was dead no spark,battery good,etc. I worked on it off and on for a week with no luck. Finally I found the culprit,it was a main frame ground wire rear right tire that was corroded and not making good ground contact. I cleaned that up,put a dab of grease on the connections and it fired right up and ran fine until the day I sold it 3 or 4 years later. My Rancher had never seen any mud or water, so yes just the humidity in the air over time can cause connections to surface rust up and cause you a headache. Also even if a battery is showing good voltage I also would have it load tested, that can also be the culprit at times.

Great video, thanks! Do you have any ideas why a Honda Fourtrax might turn over, but not catch and start? Lights are on, battery is good, engine turns but will not go. Thank you. (fuel is getting to the carby, and tried recharging battery as well as jump starting it, but it just turns over).
If you're getting fuel, you need to check for spark. Check your plug, fuses, test the output of your rectifier.

Thanks for the helpful video. We have a 2004 330cc 4X4 Outlander. It turns over fine, but doesn't start. We cannot get a spark from the spark plug, so does that mean there is problem with the electronic ignition? Probably have to replace whole unit?

i replace the fuse in my 2004 250ex and it keeps blown fuses it will stay running but eat up the fuses?

I'm not getting spark on my 1997 Honda Foreman 400 I replaced the stator, pulse coil,ignition switch,ignition coil,cdi box,regulator,spark plug,battery what else could be wrong I hope its not the timmimg when I'm at top dead center the piston comes to the top of the cylinder when T Mark is shown in timmimg hole I'm getting signal from the stator to the pulse coil into the ICM
Wow, James. It looks like you have covered 90% of your electrical system. I'm assuming fuses were checked, relay switch. Did you test your kill switch? It could be a shorted wire somewhere.

what's so weird about that is im lights along with the low beams it does turn over. the kill switch is my next thing to replace I think that could be my problem only thing I didn't replace yet was the ignition coil cap which I'll be getting that today if it still doesn't get spark then I'll replaced the Killswitch

Hey John. My problem is with a 2000 Honda Foreman 450 ES. It started just fine yesterday. Now today the electronic start button, both headlight switches, and the kill switch don’t work. However, the electronic shifter buttons work just fine. I tested the solenoid and the starter. They both work fine. No clicking when I hit the start button. No noise at all. The green light does come on when I turn the key. I checked the fuses, none of them look blown. Maybe I didn’t see one? I only saw six total. Four inside of the rectangular box, and 2 separate 30 amp fuses by themselves. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

during installation put some dielectric paste on connections for a water proof and corrosion resistant connection
to last you a long time.
check the connection from your battery as well.
with a wire brush or a gun barrel brush cleaner, clean the terminals [ nuts and bolts ] , and post.
coat them in the dielectric paste and reassemble and snug them up really good .

samething happened to the 4 wheeler my brother had gotten, that i had fixed the same way i described above.
now it starts no problwm.

Just because the solenoid clicks doesn't mean the starter is bad I have seen lots of solenoid click and the contacts inside be burnt up so always check your starter to your positive to see if your starter still turns over.
Mike what happens if it clicks like that but you just replaced the starter
@@carterfunair2999 sometimes you can push start button and it will click n nothing happens, in that case try pushing start button and hitting starter solenoid with something to jar it, sometimes it will crank with a jolt, but if not then cross the starter contacts to make sure it cranks, if after all that, then replace the solenoid.

I've got a 1988 300 4x4 fourtrax, the fuses are good an have neutral light, the kick start never turned the engine over since I bought the machine second hand. So just used the starter, but now all of a sudden I can't turn the engine over, the machine also won't click into gear so there's no way to tow it to see if the engine will turn over. Some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys so I got 03trx400ex and other day I took it to ride and I loads my truck and everything worked truned on and ride it for a bit and once I got place i was going ride didn’t want trun on anymore ? It would trun over battery was good had gas not sure what’s going on ?

I have a yamaha wolverine 350 4x4 hit the start switch but I'm getting no fire to the spark plug I changed the ignition coil and the solenoid. still not getting fire to the spark

Hello David. If You are not getting fire to the coil, it may be a issue with the cdi box.
I have a 98 350 warrior just rebuilt it and plugged all right wires in but I told my dad that the clutches have slots and supposed to line up and now I have no neutral light and the starter clicks without pulling in the clutch while starting it so what is my problem

Oh I found this out my self, if the motor turns over and doesn’t start check the wire that goes down below your shifter and make sure it’s connected, I’ve wasted over 300$ on battery and starters, but It was a little wire disconnected

really handy vid, my quad is got one click when I go to start, (like a thump) battery life is good and new solenoid I’ve put on. Will this make it the starter motor that’s wrong or a earth wire?
hey John I have a 99 Honda 400 e^x I bought it it ran perfectly fine and I went to the gas station to put fuel in it and it won't start back up I checked the starter solenoid works perfectly fine I just bought a new starter solenoid and I also bought a coil pack but it still will not start and I also bought a new spark plug would you be able to help me figure out this problem
Great video !! What if you have a 2001 Yamaha kodiak the neutral light indicator light and a new push button ignition switch and the only time the headlights and neutral light indication work is when you jump the solenoid. Starter works and it runs but only by jumping

When I do a cold start I have to give my honda TRX 400ex gas a few times to get it going I already checked the carburetor it wasn't dirty except for the jets so I had that clean out and it still doing the same but when I give it gas I hear a lil tic when it first starts up. Do u think a need a new accelerations kit
I have an 06 Yamaha bruin 350 that I bought like 8 year ago, I've put it through some tough stuff in deep water,it's fully snorkeld and dialectric greased but the cdi box shorts out very quickly and I replace it about every 3 to 8 months with the fuses and sometimes it won't crank up, and it makes a short tap or click in the solenoid and sometimes buzzes.What should I do?Thanks

i have a 1995 kawasaki kef300 lakota. check the solenoid as u did and it cranked over hooked the solenoid back up but four wheeler wouldnt start my four wheeler also has pull start used it and it started why

how do you test a ecu for a 05 polaris 330 trailboss? have no power at the controls and lights, i checked continuity looking for broken wires, tested solenoid, check connectors checked grounds, it all start right after i jump started it with my jeep
Thanks for the reply...was turning over and everything seemed fine...i changed out starter clutch and it fixed the starting issue....guess it was worn and wouldn't let the starter spin fast enough to make machine fire off electric starter

If you got a Kawasaki Bayou 300 like me all of this troubleshooting done above I had done but still missing out on something ! My quad would turn on with all the lights and everything, and when i pressed the starter button it would start 1 times out of 10 ! And when it got really cold out it would not start at all except with the pull cord... Then after some digging on the Bayou microfiche I found there was a cylinder relay under the quad just above the muffler hanging on the ATV... I got that replaced and BAM my ATV starts like a new one now !
My 2003 Rancher starts and runs fine for a few minutes, then it acts as if I hit the kill switch. I have replace the carb, drained and replaced the fuel. Any suggestions on what to test next?

I got my wife a 2008 trx400ex. split the case fixed 2nd gear. put it all back together. well we went riding this weekend. was fine but clutch and yes it was brand new started slipping and quad just stopped pulling. got it back to camp next morning wake up go to crank it crunk fine tried to just load it on trailer motor died won't start at all doesn't even turn over. would the clutch going out make it do nothing. i watched your vids and done alot if the work myself so thanks any advice would be a great help
Sir ! I have a xr400 and my resistance of black+red and brown wires is 600 ohms, I have spark but my stator is repare so, do you know if that number is good or my cdi is in danger? I have been lloking for the info everywhere and I cant find the number of ohms that this coils must have, thanks for the help
My 97 yamaha turns over but doesn't got a new carburetor, adjusted it 9 way to sunday but couldn't get the spudder out so i took it back off to make sure the floats were acting right only to find the air flow needle tip had broke and was stuck in the hole.so i got it out and put the old one back in and a little shorter but had a chance to see if it does because it won't fire just turn over. Oh and the plug got stripped going back in now it takes a 14/1.25 instead of the original 12/1.25 would this ccx ause it to not fire? Thank for your help

Question. Replaced all electrical components on Honda four track 300 and still get no spark. I’m at a loss. Any ideas wasn’t Honda certified shop for four months and they couldn’t figure it out.

So I’ve had an 04 Honda 400ex for 8 months go riding all the time and last weekend I started it up was letting it idle and it cut off and I tried to turn it back on and it made a click and lost all power. Hey partzilla.com,I've been working on a buddies 93 KLF 300. I put a new battery and new selenoid, a new starter relay. Cleaned all the wires and put a new fuse in, although the neutral light won't turn on nor will the reverse light come on. (I thought it was simply the bulbs out)If I put some juice to the starter with my jumper box it turns over. But I don't hear a click from my selenoid when I push the start button. I got the ATV to run finally with a pull start. I was wondering; could it be the neutral safety switch that wouldn't allow the push button to operate? Thanks in advance for your help.
I have a yamaha grizzly 80 cc 2005. We don't have any spark and we have replaced the CDI box, ignition coil, and have checked the kill switch and it's good. There is power going to the coil but still no spark. Do you have any other suggestions to what may be wrong?

I have a yamaha bear tracker 250. Currently, the headlights won't turn on and the atv will not make any noise when I try to start it. The neutral light turns on once the vehicle is running. It will start with the pull stark, but not the electric start. I have replaced the starter relay switch, solenoid, ignition coil, and the voltage regulator. I'm not sure where to go now. I read that it could be the ignition key switch. Any thoughts on my it won't start?

I have a 2009 honda rincon 680 fuel injected, will not start, replaced everything, fuel pump, fuel relay, air filter, spark plug. when i replaced the fuel pump assembly ran for a little while and then stopped again, would star and run poorly intermittantly, I have even drained and put fresh fuel in it. If i take the air filter of and use a little starting fluid it runs perfectly. I'm thinking I may have gotten a defective fuel pump, I have a new fuel pump rebuild kit coming today, going to give that a try. What are your thoughts on this matter?

We have a Polaris Sportsman 90. It was running (except for the when the darn chain would come off). Turned it off and 15 minutes later went to start it and only have clicking noise. From the video sounds like it might be the starter. Is there a way to confirm this? Another video suggested the solenoid...

My 1999 honda 400ex wont start. I think it has to do with electrical, bc no green light, no nothin. I got a bunch of wires not hooked up to anything and wandering if it would be better getting a new wiring harness and starting from scratch. Any input would help tremendously. Thanks

mine 2000 400ex does the same thing. I am pretty sure I flooded the carburetor though. any signs that would know you flooded the carburetor?

I HAVE A trx 200 and in order to crank it I have to spray ether into to crank , this 4wheeler was given to me two weeks ago and this is how the old owner started it.......any ideas??? Once you do this and the motor gets warmed up yo don't have to spray ether into it any more for that day.........any ideas?????

If the Solenoid clicks and starter doesnt make any noise. occasionally I hear the starter make a weak turn, but nothing consistent, mainly just a click from solenoid. does this mean starter is bad? I replaced battery and checked that fuse and all is good.

Hey I have an 00 350 rancher and I was riding it and it ran fine then when I cut it off and tried to crank again it wouldn't fire for NOTHING so I let it sit and then went back and it still wouldn't replaced the coil and CDI box with a used one and then the spark plug and it still wouldn't so I gave up and went back out and it crunk right up then I was riding and it cut off and wouldn't crank again any ideas?
i have a 1984 200s honda three wheeler. been a great mach. now , my problem is ; when i hit the start button it will turn the engine for a second or two and then seems to disengage . THEN it just spins like a clutch is kicking out . any ideas ? THANKS SO MUCH.
My Honda Ranchers starter has a slow crank. I wouldn’t diagnose it as a dead battery, the neutral like isn’t dim or off at all, and I’ve ran it multiple times this previous week with it slowly cranking and then firing right up, i let it sit a few days because I couldn’t get it out of the garage these past couple days, now the starter is still slow but it won’t fire, I have no clue what the problem is, any help?

So i have a 1996 yamah timberwolf. I put a new battery in and everything and when i went to go start it, i herd the clicks at first. It would turn over, but it had a hard time. a couple more time of me doing this, eventually the quad went crazy and kept turning over. so at this point it’s now turning over but it won’t stop unlesss i disconnect the battery, and it will continue even when the key is off. it also reconfigures once i reconnect the battery. i think i would need a new solinoid for this but i don’t know. please help!!
