Châtel-Saint-Denis (809 m ü. M.) liegt auf der Wasserscheide zwischen den Einzugsgebieten von Rhone und Rhein. Der Hauptort des Distrikts Veveyse erstreckt sich auf einer Hochebene am Fuss der Freiburger Voralpen. Unweit davon trifft man auf die Ferienregion von Les Paccots (1'061 m ü. M.). Bei der Corbetta (1'400 m ü. M.) befindet sich ein Bergsee mit dem Naturschutzgebiet Lac des Joncs sowie der Waldkuppe von Pralet (bis 1'630 m ü. M.). Das Berggebiet von Châtel-Saint-Denis mit dem Zentrum Les Paccots ist ein beliebtes Ausflugs-, Wander- und Skigebiet.
Die Entstehung von Châtel-Saint-Denis geht zurück auf eine Burg, die im 11. Jh. auf dem Geländevorsprung Vieux Châtel über dem Zusammenfluss von Veveyse de Châtel und Veveyse de Fégire errichtet wurde.
Sehenswert sind die Pfarrei Châtel-Saint-Denis, die Pfarrkirche Saint-Denis (von 1872 bis 1875 im Stil der Neugotik erbaut) und die Kapellen Saint-Roch (1655), Notre-Dame-du-Scex (1867), die Kapelle Saint-Blaise (1902) in Prayoud und Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (1935) in Les Paccots.
Châtel-Saint-Denis (809 m above sea level) is situated on the watershed between the drainage areas of the Rhone and the Rhine. The district capital of Veveyse lies on a high plain at the foothills of the Fribourg pre-Alps. Close by is the holiday region of Les Paccots (1,061 m above sea level). Near the Corbetta (1,400 m above sea level), there is a mountain lake with the Lac des Joncs nature reserve and the tree-covered summit of Pralet (up to 1,630 m above sea level). The mountainous region of Châtel-Saint-Denis and the Les Paccots center is a popular leisure, hiking, and skiing area.
The roots of Châtel-Saint-Denis date back to a castle which was built in the 11th century on the Vieux Châtel ledge above the confluence of the rivers Veveyse de Châtel and Veveyse de Fégire.
Places of interest include the Châtel-Saint-Denis parish house, the Saint-Denis parish church (built 1872--1875 in neo-Gothic style), and the chapels Saint-Roch (1655), Notre-Dame-du-Scex (1867), the chapel Saint-Blaise (1902) in Prayoud, and Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (1935) in Les Paccots.
