Yeah no I definitely questioned it the whole time watching the show. I loved the show but that was my only nitpick. I was like “everything that’s supposedly awful, Wednesday would love regardless. She’d love to watch the school burn and even people with it.” So yeah they changed her personality a bit for this.
I love me a classic Wednesday, but I think they made the right choice making her a basically decent person who just likes macabre things instead of an actual sadist. Trying to make the latter lead a show, while still trying to keep any atmosphere of whimsy, would have been stretching the Wednesday Addams bit farther than it could take.

For me personally, I love it when a show or a movie surprises me with a good misdirection. But tbh since the first episode of Wednesday I knew the monster is the Cop's son. There was a scene in the Cafe where his father comes in and encounters Wednesday for the first time, and the way the dialogs were established and the camera angel was exactly pointing toward the fact that his son is the monster he's looking for so desperately. And I immediately clocked that. And I really hate when I'm being right about sth in a show or a movie. Btw, overall I enjoyed it.

There has been a dance video with Wednesday and lurch that was very popular for years. I think they playing more on that video then "a new tictoc dance. Search "Wednesday lurch dance" and pick the black&white video. It's actually pretty cool. It's from 2011 with about 9m views. Anyway... that piece of footage has been mashed up with several different songs on youtube...
Yeah I think they both liked the show so much that they just wanted to defend it, and a lot of his jokes didn't hit because they were defensive. It's happened with a few other reactions too and they are free to feel that way, it's just not as much fun to watch because I feel there's tension.
I also feel like this is one of Ryan’s only misses to me. A lot of his points were just weird or incorrect. It almost felt like he was only half paying attention or had like a true vendetta against this series. Like normally I can tell that Ryan secretly kinda likes a lot of the things he’s making Pitch Meetings for. But this one just kinda felt like he really had it out for this show. There were a few times where I feel like he was making up plot holes or that he was simply unwilling to accept this interpretation of the character/world.

This show had me at Wednesday. It's Hey, there's a show on Netflix about Wednesday Addams, I'm there. Don't know what the plot is, haven't seen any promotional material or viral dances, or anything else related to it. Didn't even know any of the cast. And I didn't need to know.
Yeah, the plot was certainly not the strongest point of the show. What makes it so damn iconic is the characters, the snappy dialogues, the performances (Jenna Ortega truly is a standout of the year, but don't sleep on Gwendoline Christie, in her most impeccable role in years, or Emma Myers (Enid), so heartwarming, Catherine Zeta Jones is perfect as Morticia. And THING !!! My goodness give that man an award, he's got the best hand acting in the history of filmmaking !), and the overall atmosphere of the show. It is definitely one of the show with the most personality of the year, and expectingly so, since it's the long awaited reunion of the visuals of Tim Burton and the music of Danny Elfman, which, in itself, is a cinematographic event ! I'm a kid from the 80's, and I grew up watching movies like Batman, Beetlejuice, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, and later on Sleepy Hollow and Big Fish. It's only when watching Wednesday that I realized just how much I've been missing this iconic duo ! And to know that the whole world's young people have discovered this duo and embraced their comeback is really heartwarming to me.

I agree. I’m just a curious person. Even the greatest shows and movies I have ever watched have problems. When I spot them, I point them out. Pointing out problems to producers, instead of just consuming their products, is the best way to help them get better at making content us, the viewers. But for some reason, people don’t seem to understand that. Just ask Ryan George. He found out a couple months ago that Marvel, and Disney producers watch his videos, and use them to make sure they don’t make any mistakes.

The best way I know to reach people critical thinking is to have them talk about what they just watched. That was the best thing I learned from school. Discussing things is good. Thinking is good. If you don't think about stuff you end up missing everything. A great show could seem mediocre because you just didn't engage with it. "Its just entertainment after all" you may think to yourself. No need to dig deeper than the very surface. So now you are less entertained because you don't know how to think anymore. Thinking is part of entertainment is the point. I find the idea that Wednesday's personality has changed a little silly, especially regarding her "love" of death and destruction. For the most part, those traits originated in the movie franchise, not in the original comic strips or the television series. Wednesday was originally a child of woe and more melancholic than death-obsessed. Yes, she did frequently experiment on her brother and occasionally try to kill him and yes, she did chop the heads off her dolls, but that's pretty much where her more violent tendencies began and ended. Beyond that, she was probably the most normal of the Addams, all things considered (I know, low bar!). Anyway, I see the new series as more of a meeting in the middle between the original Wednesday and the Ricci reinterpretation.

The later incarnations took that trait and gleefully ran wild with it, releasing it from its original very narrow, specific focus. To put it another way, there was nothing to suggest the earlier versions of Wednesday was a threat to anyone other than Pugsley (and her dolls). The same definitely cannot be said of the theatrical versions.
I don't know how to word this without sounding kinda rude. Please understand I do not intend to offend. Not caring about major plot holes and then going on to call a show/movie good is exactly why we are seeing a decline in the quality of story writing lately. If writers know they can slop together a random plot with more holes than swiss cheese and still make money for it, they have no reason to put pride or effort into future works. I watched this show and enjoyed it too. But I also didn't noticed the plot holes at first. Now that I see them, I'm sad that I failed to notice them in the first place. I'm annoyed that the writers thought these plot holes would be OK. And I'm annoyed that other people like me, didn't notice or choose not to be bothered by it. Expect higher standards of quality from these shows. Im just saying, a viral dance scene and some fun dialogue lines do not make up for a flawed core plot line.

At first Wednesday wouldn't care about the school closing. But there is this thing called character development, that if it didn't happen, we wouldn't watch the show.
Sure, but that's unnecessary character development though. Wednesday being absolutely insane and actively doing bad things and finding bad and terrible situations enjoyable is exactly what makes her character so funny. 😂 So getting rid of that seems less like character development and more like changing her into a completely different character. The pitch meeting is wrong about who Goody Addams is a descendant of. Even though Morticia also has visions she tells Wednesday that Goody is a decent of Gomez's from Mexico and one of the first settlers of Jericho.
There is no way that dance wasn't calculated from the start, viral has been produced ever since it started making money. Memes too, before they were an advertising/propaganda tool they used to be funny. Also, ratings used to accurately reflect how people felt about things. I wanted to like the show, but it just didn't feel right to me. I missed the Addams being loving, supportive and accepting of each other. And it felt a little too generic-teen-drama for me, almost like it was written as a different teen drama with magic story, and then later attached to the Addams Family IP to sell better. Jenna Ortega did an awesome job though, by far the best part of the show.
I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but I didn’t really like the finale... it was a let down for me. I didn’t really understand why they brought back Crackstone, having the finale being a battle between Wednesday and Laurel Gates would have been better in my opinion. And like Ryan George said, I found it quite weird that Wednesday was that misled when she conducted her investigation of the murderer when we(the audience) could see from (at least) ep4 that something was wrong with Tyler

For me personally, I love it when a show or a movie surprises me with a good misdirection. But tbh since the first episode of Wednesday I knew the monster is the Cop's son. There was a scene in the Cafe where his father comes in and encounters Wednesday for the first time, and the way the dialogs were established and the camera angel was exactly pointing toward the fact that his son is the monster he's looking for so desperately. And I immediately clocked that. And I really hate when I'm being right about sth in a show or a movie. Btw, overall I enjoyed it.

There has been a dance video with Wednesday and lurch that was very popular for years. I think they playing more on that video then "a new tictoc dance. Search "Wednesday lurch dance" and pick the black&white video. It's actually pretty cool. It's from 2011 with about 9m views. Anyway... that piece of footage has been mashed up with several different songs on youtube...

Yeah I think they both liked the show so much that they just wanted to defend it, and a lot of his jokes didn't hit because they were defensive. It's happened with a few other reactions too and they are free to feel that way, it's just not as much fun to watch because I feel there's tension.
I also feel like this is one of Ryan’s only misses to me.
A lot of his points were just weird or incorrect. It almost felt like he was only half paying attention or had like a true vendetta against this series. Like normally I can tell that Ryan secretly kinda likes a lot of the things he’s making Pitch Meetings for. But this one just kinda felt like he really had it out for this show.
There were a few times where I feel like he was making up plot holes or that he was simply unwilling to accept this interpretation of the character/world.

Still think it’s a fun show nonetheless and I’ll probably watch season 2. Haven’t seen Ortega in anything else but I thought she did a good job here.
It was made by the creators of Smallville which is part of why I wanted to check it out. But I think a lot of the writing felt pretty dated in retrospect, keeping the worst parts of early 2000s network TV.

This show had me at Wednesday. It's Hey, there's a show on Netflix about Wednesday Addams, I'm there. Don't know what the plot is, haven't seen any promotional material or viral dances, or anything else related to it. Didn't even know any of the cast. And I didn't need to know.

Yeah, the plot was certainly not the strongest point of the show.
What makes it so damn iconic is the characters, the snappy dialogues, the performances (Jenna Ortega truly is a standout of the year, but don't sleep on Gwendoline Christie, in her most impeccable role in years, or Emma Myers (Enid), so heartwarming, Catherine Zeta Jones is perfect as Morticia. And THING !!! My goodness give that man an award, he's got the best hand acting in the history of filmmaking !), and the overall atmosphere of the show. It is definitely one of the show with the most personality of the year, and expectingly so, since it's the long awaited reunion of the visuals of Tim Burton and the music of Danny Elfman, which, in itself, is a cinematographic event ! I'm a kid from the 80's, and I grew up watching movies like Batman, Beetlejuice, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, and later on Sleepy Hollow and Big Fish. It's only when watching Wednesday that I realized just how much I've been missing this iconic duo ! And to know that the whole world's young people have discovered this duo and embraced their comeback is really heartwarming to me.
If we can make a show with messy writing but enjoyable enough that people can dumb down then what good writers are for?

I agree. I’m just a curious person. Even the greatest shows and movies I have ever watched have problems. When I spot them, I point them out. Pointing out problems to producers, instead of just consuming their products, is the best way to help them get better at making content us, the viewers. But for some reason, people don’t seem to understand that. Just ask Ryan George. He found out a couple months ago that Marvel, and Disney producers watch his videos, and use them to make sure they don’t make any mistakes.
@@elitehank862 This isn't true. Giving thought to things isn't something you should reserve its a basic life skill that allows you to open horizons and progress. The best way I know to reach people critical thinking is to have them talk about what they just watched. That was the best thing I learned from school. Discussing things is good. Thinking is good. If you don't think about stuff you end up missing everything. A great show could seem mediocre because you just didn't engage with it. "Its just entertainment after all" you may think to yourself. No need to dig deeper than the very surface. So now you are less entertained because you don't know how to think anymore.
Thinking is part of entertainment is the point. Its not just watching someone jingle keys.

I find the idea that Wednesday's personality has changed a little silly, especially regarding her "love" of death and destruction. For the most part, those traits originated in the movie franchise, not in the original comic strips or the television series. Wednesday was originally a child of woe and more melancholic than death-obsessed. Yes, she did frequently experiment on her brother and occasionally try to kill him and yes, she did chop the heads off her dolls, but that's pretty much where her more violent tendencies began and ended. Beyond that, she was probably the most normal of the Addams, all things considered (I know, low bar!). Anyway, I see the new series as more of a meeting in the middle between the original Wednesday and the Ricci reinterpretation.

The later incarnations took that trait and gleefully ran wild with it, releasing it from its original very narrow, specific focus. To put it another way, there was nothing to suggest the earlier versions of Wednesday was a threat to anyone other than Pugsley (and her dolls). The same definitely cannot be said of the theatrical versions.

Not caring about major plot holes and then going on to call a show/movie good is exactly why we are seeing a decline in the quality of story writing lately.
If writers know they can slop together a random plot with more holes than swiss cheese and still make money for it, they have no reason to put pride or effort into future works.
I watched this show and enjoyed it too. But I also didn't noticed the plot holes at first. Now that I see them, I'm sad that I failed to notice them in the first place. I'm annoyed that the writers thought these plot holes would be OK. And I'm annoyed that other people like me, didn't notice or choose not to be bothered by it.
Expect higher standards of quality from these shows.
Im just saying, a viral dance scene and some fun dialogue lines do not make up for a flawed core plot line.

So getting rid of that seems less like character development and more like changing her into a completely different character.

There is no way that dance wasn't calculated from the start, viral has been produced ever since it started making money. Memes too, before they were an advertising/propaganda tool they used to be funny. Also, ratings used to accurately reflect how people felt about things. Once upon a time in the magical land of the internet, before the hostile takeover, we even used to all agree on politics, we all agreed it was stupid and unfunny. But you know, all hail the algorithm.

I wanted to like the show, but it just didn't feel right to me. I missed the Addams being loving, supportive and accepting of each other. And it felt a little too generic-teen-drama for me, almost like it was written as a different teen drama with magic story, and then later attached to the Addams Family IP to sell better. Jenna Ortega did an awesome job though, by far the best part of the show.
I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but I didn’t really like the finale... it was a let down for me.
I didn’t really understand why they brought back Crackstone, having the finale being a battle between Wednesday and Laurel Gates would have been better in my opinion. And like Ryan George said, I found it quite weird that Wednesday was that misled when she conducted her investigation of the murderer when we(the audience) could see from (at least) ep4 that something was wrong with Tyler
The fact is jenna fought to make the good and rejected a lot of what was writen for the character. Thats why shes on the writing and production team for season two.
