I’ve been a Fenerbahce fan all of my life. Growing up, one of my fondest memories was watching every single Fenerbahce game with my father since I was a child. I love Fenerbahce, and more broadly I love the passion that Turks have for the beautiful game.
Unfortunately, however, the beautiful game has became an ugly game given hooliganism in Türkiye. You mentioned that if it keeps up, lives might be lost, but this has already happened before. Multiple fans have been killed over the past couple decades because of hooliganism.
One of the biggest problems is also the politicization of the Turkish FA over the years. This has meant that FA officials will often embrace the biases of their favorite teams. This was especially a noticeable thing with the former president of the Turkish FA who was a Besiktas fan.
The saddest part is that I’m not sure where to go from here. Türkiye has actually banned fans from stadiums before, but it’s only made fans more angry. There are hardly any solutions.
We’ve got to find a way to make this beautiful game more pluralistic in Türkiye. Turkish hooliganism has effectively reached a point of ultranationalism, but with teams instead of nations. It’s absolutely crazy. Honestly, I think pausing the league and doing a whole revamp of the Turkish FA might be the only option to prevent future violence. This alongside a hard crackdown on future violence might be our only option.
Great vid Niran, really appreciate the spreading of awareness.

Holy crap, this kind of stuff makes the dark days of English football hooliganism look tame in comparison. This is insanity. And 'oH iTs PaSsIoN' is a weaksauce pathetic excuse. Passion is chanting, singing, blowing the roof off when your team scores, maybe booing and getting emotional over decisions not going your way or playing your bitter rivals. That's IT. Assaulting players, refs and fellow fans is inexusable. End of story. And no wonder Fenerbache are considering quitting the league - I'm surprised fans and players alike aren't quitting the league in droves. Maybe thats the only way the Turkish FA will listen and actually show some leadership.

The issue isn't just in Turkey (although, they definitely appear to be the worst). It seems to be the majority of mainland Europe.
Last Year, I went to every round of West Ham's Conference League Win and was met with violence during each of the knockout stages. Gent fans tore their seats up and lobbed them at home fans. Alkmaar were mental during both legs. During the home match, away fans snuck into the home crowd, only to reveal themselves part way through the first half and again, start throwing stuff. We all know how the away leg went.
West Ham fans weren't innocent. Fighting back every time and even throwing items at Fiorientina players in the Final.
    Something needs to be done

    • @lorddarlo6194

Yes I remember that but English Football fans get rightly pissed off when for example we had to have a full stadium closure apart from a few thousand School Kids at Molienux when we played Italy after the Euros final, yet Hungary could play in front of a sell out despite Racist Abuse and Fighting, Other Countries get away with it yet when English Fans try and fight back we get punished. Make it fair not condoning what any of them fans did but it does feel one rule for us one rule for them. Also Liverpool being blamed for the ticketing issues in Paris, just like Hillsborough how stupid were UEFA there it was there cock up. As even Madrid fans said they had issues but they only blamed Liverpool like the Tories in 1989. It does seem UEFA have let this happen by letting other countries get away with it with minor consequences yet English Fans and West Ham now face potential Stadium closures although they didn't but UEFA Probably would. The only time I remember a game being fully behind closed doors was when some Bratislava played Wolves in the Europa League a few years ago as a neutral well As West Brom fan that felt weird to see Wolves get there big European adventure and no one was allowed. Legia Warsaw should have had a travel ban or restrictions when they played Aston Villa, Villa tried to coordinate with Warsaw to see how many fans it was bringing so it could let West Midlands Police and it's Stewards know and know how many Home Seats it could make available in the stand. Warsaw never cooperated and large amounts of Warsaw Fans rocked up in Birmingham City Centre and started causing trouble. WMP marched them all down to Villa Park where loads of non ticketed fans tried to get in, in the end the Warsaw fans attacked the Police started throwing objects, flares and punches and some hit Villa fans including families, UEFA could have prevented this by asking Warsaw to work with Villa, in the end the away end remained empty as the Police never let Warsaw in. Several fans have been prosecuted by Our Courts. UEFA should have banned them fully or asked them to work with Villa and strictly enforce that only so many Warsaw fans could come. You can bet if it was reversed Villa would have got into more trouble and been banned as I do believe Warsaw were allowed to go to PSV and caused yet more trouble before UEFA Banned them they were out of the tournament anyway. UEFA needs to do more not saying England aren't to blame but we always get the worst punishments compared to other countries

as a brazilian, the saddest part is: none of the stories niran told were far fetched from what i've seen here in brazil (except the manager being stabbed by his own brother, that was indeed mental). just this year some fans threw rocks and a BOMB at their rival team's bus injuring and nearly killing players and staff. the club was fined and punished but not a single soul was convicted for the attack. last year during a match sets of both clubs got into a huge fight INSIDE the pitch at the dying moments of a top flight match. unfortunately this hooliganism is just as ingrained and barely combated against as in Turkiye and will not go away without proper legislative measures, life time bans and convictions against the PEOPLE that do these things, not just the clubs that have to live with the consequences of their supposed 'fans' acts

Our Pisstaking nature and there voilence, I was 22 years ago that two Leeds United fans were stabbed to death over there. A Liverpool fan was beaten up over there. In my opinion, football violences in Indonesia is far worse than what happened in Turkey. I remember how Alfie (HITC Sevens) covered this video a year prior, when he labelled Liga 1, Indonesian top-flight football, as the world's dangerous (and deadliest) football leagues. There were so many violent scenes happened in our country, most notably MMA-esque on the pitch against either fans or officials or even such massive brawls that resulted in even catastrophic deaths.
You can search up the East Java derby between Arema and Persebaya in 2022, commonly known as the "Kanjuruhan Disaster". Right after the referee blew the full-time whistle, the Arema fans started to invade the pitch against the players from both teams and the police. What followed was a catastrophic scenes that changed our football a lot, when the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd as Arema fans trying to escape, resulting in the death of so many peoples (135, according to the officials). The violent fans also burned so many motorbikes and the police vehicles outside the stadium.
As a fun fact, the Turkish referee that got assaulted during the Ankaragucu-Rizespor game was also the same guy during the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahce game.
Of course, Turkish football fans must pay their bad consequences about this fiasco. They got embarrassed by Austria (1-6).

As a Turkish football fan, I'd have to say-despite the topic being far more complex than passion/emotion-rooted violence, you've done a good job with relaying what's happened in an unbiased and non-ignorant manner. To understand why the problem is so complex you'd have to dive into a rabbithole of Turkish politics (which I wouldn't recommend) that has massively created social instability within the country and especially for football fans

Niran, this has been an ongoing thing with Trabzon and Fenerbahce, over the last 10 years, this has been the 3rd incident in Trabzon in a game against Fenerbahce that the fans have caused havoc. The first one in 2014, and again in 2016, both games were ultimately suspended and Fenerbahce was awarded a 3-0 win both times, and then the one almost two weeks ago, which the game should've been suspended and Fenerbahce should've been awarded a 3-0 win. This dates back to 2011 when Fenerbahce won the title against Trabzon due to goal difference. There was an investigation for match fixing that summer and till this day Trabzon feel as if that title is there's. So much that they say that they won the title that year and not Fenerbahce, even though the courts and Federation have stated that Fenerbahce won the title, and those who did accuse Fenerbahce of match-fixing at the time are currently in jail with ties to Feto. But that's a whole different story for another day. Mind you, this stuff happens just in Trabzon, there hasn't been anything in recent memory of our fans storming the pitch to fight Trabzon players when they come to Istanbul.
Also, the bus shooting in 2015 that you were talking about? Fenerbahce played that game in Rize, but in order to go back to Istanbul, you have to go to Trabzon since that's the nearest airport, which is where the shooting happened.
Last thing to mention, go search up the 2007 derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, known as the "Sulu Derbi." Fenerbahce came into that game already clinching the title, and for almost the entire game, Galatasaray fans pelted water bottles at our players non-stop until the refs suspended the game only to continue play about 45 minutes later I believe.
As for the Federation, they have been the most incompetent bunch for who knows how long as well as their referee's. You just had a video leak the other day of a Referee's meeting where Hugh Dallas is asking a ref why he gave a penalty in Galatasaray's favor when the player was clearly exaggerating the call, and I shit you not, his response was that he saw the reaction of the GS players and that's what lead him to give the penalty. You can't make this shit up.

Also something you have missed out on, during the fight that occured at the end of the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe game, Fenerbahçe player Jayden Oosterwolde ended up kicking an already on the ground Trabzonspor fan's head. That being said, the graffiti that’s been popping up shows him punching a fan who’s already on the floor, and if I remember rightly a video I saw showed him kicking/attempting to kick a fan, (possibly the same fan as in the graffiti) who was also on the floor. That alone deserves some form of punishment.

And actual punishments for people enacting violence, be it fans or team staff.

Hello, let me explain the general situation as an objective Turkish fan. There is an incredible social media lynching culture in Turkey, and sometimes it is so dominant that it can even be reflected in the transfer policies of the clubs. Also, for example, if a referee makes a wrong decision, the fans of the team against whom that referee made the wrong decision destroy that referee on social media. From my perspective, I feel sad about this situation because it both lowers the quality of the league and prevents star players from coming here.

Let's be real, those superstar players went there for a tax free paycheck, not the passion of the fan bases.

Idk how it is possible to completely fix Turkish football but first step would be to ban the whole city of trabzon from football, while none of those things talked about in the video is normal, they are normal for trabzon citizens. To give another example they hail the guy who jumped on the pitch and beat an assistant referee as a hero. (that also happened while their team was getting their ass clapped 0-4 by Fenerbahçe again in 2016)

im not saying there is any blame on the fenerbahce players bc this is unacceptable from the fans BUT if u look when the first fan runs onto the pitch a fener player jumps on and throws a haymaker on the guy and the crowd lets out a collective boo. i feel like that may have instigated it. not saying its the players fault tho bc the response isnt equal to the action. i think whoever threw that punch should mayb get a small punishment but also make it clear that the punishment is treated as its own seperate incident and not as an instigator for the whole event

I play sports and love watching sports as much as the next person, but could never understand how people use them as an excuse to commit property and bodily damage. There's no way you as a grown adult should be so upset at a GAME that you fight people, destroy property, or say nasty things about players or other fans. Sports seems to give horrible people an excuse to show their true colors.

It's pretty simple if you think about it. When you country is prospering, people are more peaceful, but if your country is in a state of crisis, the social tensions are high and people lean to be more violent.

As a Turkish football fan please let me tell you some stuff that you didn’t mention
1 - Around 8 Fenerbahce players were caught taunting the fans, they were “reeling in the fish” this angered the fans even more and extremely offensive to the fans, which is the fault of Fenerbahce players
2 - I am yet to come across a person named niran in Türkiye however there are many people called Nisan which is a month in Turkish
3 - trabzonspor probably locked the refs in because they know the TFF won’t do anything
4 - there was no knife
5 - Fenerbahce does not have the balls to withdraw from the league, even fenerbahce fans know this, it is 100% a bluff to get the TFF to not give their players bans
6 - EVERYONE in Türkiye wants the TFF president to get leave his job, he is just a clown
7 - Back to trabzonspor game, trabzon fans were angered by the referees decision making, one example is a penalty not given, the referee saw the foul in front of his eyes and did not send it to var or anything
I’m sure I can write more but I don’t want sound like a bum and my opinions may be biased I am a galatasaray fan and I tried to say my views as open mindedly as I could, I hope you see this, and that’s all have great day

I'm from Türkiye and I've been a FNG fan for years now. This is not even %10 of what happened this year ALONE! For so long, Türkiye's football is an absolute joke. There is match-fixing, and corruption. The head of the refs is probably making tons of money. everybody knows these AND no one even tries to hide these actions while acting so. It is all out there. Years ago, Fenerbahçe was rising rapidly in terms of its finances, reputation, squad quality, etc. especially compared to other teams. They filed false lawsuits, made players, coaches and personnel wrongfully do jail time and that case just shut closed last year when It was CLEAR FOR YEARS that all the accusations were false! Fener would have been a complete powerhouse of international football by now if it wasn't for all these nonsense.
