- In this episode of Venky's presents Khaane Mein Kya Hai, we dive into the culinary treasure that is Lucky Restaurant in Bandra. Established pre-independence by the late Sayed Aliakbar Husaini, Lucky Restaurant has been a beacon of delectable flavours and rich history in Mumbai. This iconic eatery, now run by his son Sayed Safar Ali and his family, continues to preserve the legacy with pride. Famous for its tantalising biryanis and other Mughlai delicacies, Lucky Restaurant has become a landmark for food lovers seeking authentic tastes. đ„°
Murgh Musallam, a dish with royal roots, is the star of today's episode. Originating from the kitchens of Mughal emperors, Murgh Musallam is a whole chicken marinated in a blend of spices, stuffed, and slow-cooked to perfection. This dish has seen a decline in popularity in recent times, but Lucky Restaurant has kept the tradition alive with its impeccable preparation and dedication to preserving this culinary gem. Tune in to see how they continue serving this majestic dish transcending time. đ
Our host, Kunal Vijayakar, shares his connection with Murgh Musallam, reminiscing about the flavours of his childhood and the nostalgia it brings. His love for this dish is evident as he explores its preparation and history at Lucky Restaurant. Venky's presents Khaane Mein Kya Hai is not just a show about food; it's a journey through memories, tastes, and traditions that have shaped our culinary landscape.

Lucky Restaurant is an emotion. People who are from Santacruz to Mahim can understand this.
The food is mouthwatering. The best thing about Mumbai is that, it is a melting pot for many food cultures. Lucky = Bandra. The young 83 yr old owner is such a nice person.
Only bandraite know the hype of lucky restuarant, raised in bandra always loved lucky bheja fry â€
murg musallam is an emotion very few people understand that
Was nice to listen to the owner. A very knowledgeable person. Food looks really really tasty! I also loved the beautiful plates!
Staying in Bandra for +55 years but not even once have eaten in Lucky but will surely visit them to eat Murg Musallam very soon
Kunal. Murgh musallam has been one of my mother's signature dishes. Hardly see anywhere now. But lucky enough being raised on such authentic cusines. She is 75 years old now so rarely cooks but everything she cooks still has the same authentic recipe and taste. â€â€â€
This video took me to a nostalgia trip too. I remember 9 year back me and my brother went to this restaurant. The food was amazing and the aroma of the custard đź was in the whole restaurant at that time. Love watching this from USA, makes me have a eager desire to travel back home and visit this restaurant again. Thank you kunal and team for creating this kind of content. ( I am a foodie too just like kunal. so I had to put in an effort to write a good comment to appreciate the work)
Thanks for sharing
"cooking of biryani is an art" - what an emotion behind those words! wonder how the first plates of biryani back in those days tasted versus the one being prepared now. beautiful episode that was more than just food.
Loved this episode Kunal...I have personally been eating at Lucky for almost 3 decades now..as much as the food it is also the warm hospitality of the owners and the staff that keeps us coming back ...
Thank you so much!
It was lucky to listen from lucky's owner and fabulous food once again....
Episode sirf accha nahi,Bohat Accha Laga! Thanks Kunal.
Nice episode but tooo many dishes on a tiny table and that makes it very difficult to give justice to all dishes in 20 minutes , Lucky Restaurant is no doubt a gem of a eatery
Kunalji, sincere thanks for this upload. Off course,I loved the menu. But, a discussion with this Babaji who has been with Lucky for his entire life is outstanding. My sincere Namaskar to this Babaji. This reminded me The old man of The Britannia of the Ballard . These people are the one who actually invested and the generations are enjoying the interest. Hats off to these lovely citizens of our Mumbai. My sincere Namaskar once again.
Stayed in Bandra for long and This was our good to go restaurant đđ

Very authentic mughlai cuisine. Very rich but too heavy to digest. You have to eat with lot of patience and deep concentration.
We hsving been ordering since past 20 yrs,Murg muslam with stuffed keema masala and egg becomes more special to us,we eat with naan or tandoori roti, mouth watering dish, i think Lucknow is famous for this royal cusine.
Had Murg Musallam for the first time few years back at a local restaurant in Mumbai and since then it is my go to main course whenever we go to that place.
This place is iconic and brilliant to see the young man - he still sounds passionate.
Being Bandra born and raised been eating here since ages. Last Wednesday we tried Yaadgaar - this is a small joint on the extreme right hand side of Bandra Station bus depot - try the Ghurda Kapura and Brain Masala with Romali roti- simply outstanding. Happy to host you one evening when you are free.
I never gets bore with biryanis and khima pau
I never tried murg musallam at lucky, but now will surely try .. Lucky's food is really goodâ€

True Indian, with any law these people can be sent out đȘđœ
Kunal what you explain the bheja
GOOD JOB
I like your food vlogs Vijay Sir. My only concern always is that you have so much food in front of you when you go to restaurants. Dont think you can all finish it yourself nor can anybody else since you have already eaten it. So if you are not finishing each and every bite of food in front of you, its not goodđą. Millions of people going hungry every day in this world, do we have the right to waste food? Apologies if what I said is not the case but if its like that, please do reconsider your strategy Sir đđŒ
The food is not wasted. Donât worry.
Well said - Point to be concentrated by all of our indian brothers so that atleast a small amount of food may help the poor and hungry...
Was the aaloo missing in the biryani????
Your childlike reaction at 12.51â€
@1:44 Good Oneđ
Pune cantonment area you'll get one of the best murg musallam.
If we have such nice people as the 83 year old owner, I wonder what Mandir Masjid politics is all about
I believe that over the years, Mughlai food has unfortunately become filled with artificial food colors, which is not at all desirable. I personally love eating murg mussallam, but I am often disappointed by the excessive use of colors in the dish. I am certain that the royal palaces of the Mughals did not add such colors to their food.
True.
Good
Nice video kunal sirâ€
Thanks!
Namaste,
Just for curiosity,

Agar tax bharna padta hai ya certificate Dena padta hai toh agar aap ko koi etraj na ho toh uska naam bata sakenge.

Acquired taste? I think bheja was âlove at first biteâ for me. I was a kid when my grandad took me to a dhaba that served amazing bheja dishes with piping hot pav.
Thanks for sharing

My Non vegetarian friends swear by the food in Lucky !! for some its an "emotional" thing to eat at Lucky !!
You dont get food as good as in Lucky Restaurant bandra anywhere in Bombay , except Lucky Restaurant Chembur, wish they would open one in Colaba too. Hum colabawale ne kya guna kiya hain, yahan par kyu nahi kholte.
09:23 Paneer = Bheja...đđ
