EXO’s concerts are divided up into sections (acoustic, edm/hype, cute, sexy, etc.) and are usually around 3 hours long. The purpose of the acoustic session is not only for them to take a rest from non-stop dancing, but also to prove that they don’t need a backing track to sound good and cohesive. Even during the other sections, where they’re dancing, they try and keep the backing track to a minimum, to the point where it’s only really for vocal effects that are included in the instrumental. Everything up until the part where they all got up was completely live, without any backing track (here’s a focus video, just so you can see everyone at the same time m.czcams.com/video/XjwYJIPvjeM/video.html ). Part of EXO’s training was actually singing while running on treadmills, which is why they sound so flawless live. One of the main vocalists, Baekhyun, revealed a while ago that, even 7 years after debuting, he still goes to vocal lessons 4 times a week, despite being an extremely accomplished singer. EXO, since their first concert, have continued to top their world record for fastest concert to sell out, with their most recent record being 0.2 seconds (1 million people were trying to buy tickets at the same time and crashed the website).
In kpop, you’ll quickly find that not all members of a group can sing really well, which is honestly fine, they might be there because of rap or dance skills, although sometimes they really are there just to look pretty. EXO is an exception to this because all of the members can genuinely sing, which is very rare for an industry driven by visuals.
Thank you for some extra background, I really appreciate it! I agree they are all exceptional, I certainly couldn't sing and dance like that, especially not for 3 hours! I think the biggest take away is that they blend into the track so seamlessly because thier live vocals are so good! Usually people use them to hide behind, but these guys are studio quality all the time!
@@SSTVocalCoach by the way, the concert last for 3 hours, but every stop has 2 or 3 days concerts. In a way, they pull of a concert for 3 hours in 2 and 3 days with a gap of a month to every stop, depending on the distance between stops.
Those throats and lungs need some rest.

They sang this live, all using their pure voice. There’s no back voice. Except for the last part when they all start to dance
They do harmonize live and when I saw this live there was very very little backing track they were singing the harmonies and background sounds

It's not post production there is a slight backing track but that is their voices. Believe me I have heard them live, I've heard this acoustic session live. I'm not saying there isn't any backing but it's very minimal compared to their full scale performances. :)

You can learn their names while getting to know their voices.
You should also know that in every group there are Main Vocalists, Lead Vocalists, Main and Lead Rapper etc. But in EXO even the Rappers can sing extremely well.
Very true! I think with a bit of time I'll get all the names down, and be able to pick them out a little easier, vocally speaking, but i'm reacting purely as a new listener (at the moment). They are a super talented group for sure! I'll be sure to check out your suggestion also- thank you!

Not voices behind them...They're harmonising. Exo are really good in harmonising. You should check exo's amazing vocals and exo's vocals are no joke videos
sure they harmonize but to those harmonizations there are some voices added in the backround so theres a fuller sound
if you listen closely at some points there are 3 who sing but there are more voices
still incredible what they are doing ^^
If you could see the program on another clip you would see that they are all lifting their mikes and there are no track vocals behind their voices. They just harmonize this well.
Anyway, when exo doing a live performance it's really live (they really sing it and not a recorded voice) and even though they dance they can sing really stable
because they have been practicing for years before they debut

I think perhaps i've been misunderstood with the whole track thing. I'm fully aware that they are singing live at all times, but there's something in the track behind them at certain times (not all the time either, which is where I could really get a good listen to them) that sits behind them, it's not always vocals, its sometimes synths etc, or is sometimes an effected chant ect. That's why I went for this video to react to, because I can hear them fully most of the time and get to really zone in and appreciate the hard work they are doing.

React to chen and baekhyun- I really didn't know, it was in a competition . Chen tears for complete raw live , them singing songs( thorn , sweet dreams) on show knowing brothers though short is completely raw live vocals.

What i love about this acoustic medley is that theres no backtrack, its just them, some guitars and their voices
But he kept mentioning that they had back tracks behind them....which got me a bit confused...I think its completely live...correct me if I am wrong...but back tracks or not I love them anyway and everyway...they are the best😍😍😍
EXO are amazing vocalists.... their songs are so good
The tracked vocals you talked about are the work of the sound engineer who did the mix for this DVD. I've always noticed it, especially in the other version of this acoustic medley, because when Lay does Monodrama there are some female backing vocals hehe. If you want to hear stuff without any of those then the best bet would be the performances they do on livestream or the latest concert DVD (ElyXiOn). I don't know why but the person in charge of the DVD audio for the EXO'rdium worked harder than he should have haha jk but the person in charge of the DVD audio for the ElyXiOn did the opposite. I mean, the mixing for the EXO'rdium live album was amazing, I preferred the whole live album to the studio versions. I can just imagine the guy watching the vid and listening to the audio and saying "hmm what can I do so that I'm not too expendable..." then he went at it with gusto. The ElyXiOn one was amazing too, but it was a lot more raw. Haha maybe the company didn't like the tracked vocals either!
The zayn malik comment you had was for D.O. haha, you aren't the only one who says that. It's a commonly uttered phrase in the fandom. I have to be honest, the reason why I love EXO's music is because they belt out high notes as often as they use falsetto. What I mean is that they can adjust based on the style that they are doing... They can do jazzy, they can do R&B, they can do pop, they can do slightly operatic, etc. There are some groups that I love (I mean, these people are pretty charming) but I don't love their music because the choruses are always in falsetto and they often sound the same to me...

there was no backing track on the accoustic session BUT the production of the DVD version of this concert (the Exordium) has added "flair" to it (the MSG added by the audio engineer I think). even though the fans never think its necessary, i mean EXO are very stable in singing live. and if they made mistake or a little crack here and there, we acknowledge it as a very humane (and a proof that they are singing live) 😂

Chen and baek l really didn't know was mind blowing I was so impressed when I first saw it , after I got into the show and watched the whole episode it was such a pity they lost but they were new debuted and were competing with people like ailee and many seniors, they did gave their best though.
And the fact that this is live is so amazing. Not all kpop group can do this👌🏼 please react more to their live performances. You'll be blown away. You will see them running and jumping all over the stage but their vocals are still stable!!
EXO has one of the most power house in terms of vocals and talents. You should watch more about their live performances 👏🏻 too bad sm entertainment, their company is not good with promotion🙄

I saw this reaction late. But I'm not surprised he thinks there are backing vocals. It's how they harmonize. When Chen and Lay harmonized at the radio station, it literally sounded like four people singing. They ended up shy and giggly after that but we were all like HOLY SHIT! I mean EXO-Ls are used to this...

K-pop is hardcore and the fans are very dedicated. People have said that the audio on this is cleaned up, particularly to reduce crowd noise, and that's definitely true because every one of those thousands of people is singing along with call me baby and you can barely hear them but in reality the fans are so loud Exo can barely hear themselves.

There are about 2/3 Baritones in EXO but they’re mostly all rappers. Chanyeol is a rapper but he sings a lot too and he’s a baritone, maybe you could react to some of his covers eg his wind of change cover

The camera cuts in and out so much that you can't tell sometimes, but they do do quite a bit of the harmonizations live- some you can see better in their other acoustic sessions. The backing track is minimal here, but still present. The camerawork makes it difficult to tell what's actually going on, but I've noticed Xiumin or Chen's voice underneath the others, and Chen honestly is always pitch perfect, and I see him holding the mic up most of the time- but I can't be sure!
I think i've been picked up wrong regarding the track controversy. I know that they are singing live the whole time, and the track is just there (at certain points) to bolster what's already there, which is why I said they didn't need it as they were all great singers.
Another thing to consider is that there may be things added post production, which is used to kind of "smooth" everything out (which again isn't needed as they are already smooth haha!). This would be added after the performance (which might be why folk are saying if I heard them in person i'd know it's all live, as it would have been when they went to see them). A good example of how much you can do with this tch is by litening to Madonna at Eurovision live on the night, then what she put on CZcams, the difference is crazy!
Anyway, the intent of me pointing it out wasn't to upset anyone (I didn't really have any idea of the level of love these guys have as i'd never heard them) but to show how the guys work with all the tech available to put on a great show and deliver a slick product (which includes thier live vocals).

Yeah I agree that this video you reacted to is a polished one compared to similar acoustic video of their concert in South Korea. I've watched a lot of other Jpop artist concerts sourced from DVD & it give the same polished audio feel with clear emphasis on singer vocal on mic & stability. In the other version the audio feels a bit more raw.
