musical bit: overhead shot of a city
first part: girl gets out of a taxi and knocks on a door which is then slammed in her face, so she walks away and gets on a bus. it starts to rain and the raindrops are timed with the twinkles. the girl starts to imagine the raindrops instead to be flowers opening and static glitches are her fading back to the real world
second part: the music starts again and she suddenly tears through the screen like its paper and comes out the other side in a field of flowers (similar to the Buttercup music video) dancing and skipping at the petals bloom around her she's too distracted to see that the ground ends with a cliff
*silent part is her falling*
third part: she crashes through the water as the song starts again, in this part she floats underwater as bubbles swirl around her, in these bubbles she sees herself with a boy, the same one who's house she was at in the beginning. she desperately grabs these bubbles and tries to hug them, but they pop, hence the loud bang.
the song ends with her standing soaking wet on the beach watching the sun set, completely alone in the middle on nowhere

the way a song is sung can change the way it's seen a lot
a good example i found is a song from the game hades, called "good riddance". it's a song about the good side of being dead and trapped in the underworld, and is sung by two different people who used to be together when they were alive. one of them sings it in a way that makes it feel very calming and beautiful, while the other sings it in a way that makes it sound harrowing and cold. they both use exactly the same lyrics, but the way the song is sung changes it completely

I interpret this song is about healing from the trauma of an abusive relationship.
“I wanna be painless.” Makes me think of the singer yearning for love that does not hurt them, and realizing they do not deserve to be hurt, that love should never hurt.
“How could you be so cruel?” a question directed towards the abuser, asking what they could have deserved to be treated such a way, when they gave that person nothing but love.
“Love Soldier, I want closure.” Love Soldier is the name they gave theirself. Love to represent that they will still always be a lover, that they won’t let their abuser harden their heart. Soldier to signify they healed after surviving such a traumatic experience.
I personally think the gunshot wasn’t literal, but symbolic, to show that the survivor is “killing off” the relationship, and feelings they once had toward that person.

I think the song is about not wanting to still feel love someone following heartbreak. “Circumcise my love for you” can be interpreted as the singer wanting to remove the love for this person from their life. And “a dollar for the bus back home” sounds like the singer wants to go back to the way things were before. Lots of people are interpreting the gunshot as suicide of the singer but i feel that it’s them trying to “kill” their emotions for this person.
This is exactly what I think.
Special note goes to "I don't wanna ride the bus alone". He desperately wants the other person to come with him and reciprocate. But that's not what happens
