    The more I learn the more fantastic this all is to this 65 year old non technical guy. One of my first questions was how can I interact with my controls if I am wearing a head set. I saw some videos on actually reproducing the cockpit of say a Cessna 172 into a panel or panels. I was blown away that this gentleman bought every display hard wear that goes in to that 172 Cessna cockpit and he did have a stick instead of a yoke and he had landing gear, though he did not need it for the Cessna 172 except the radio, though I might be wrong about the radio display.

    Fully recommended for X-Plane 11! I used AM in my Cessna 172 based flight sim build. It works great. Even on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ I've gotten about 20-25 fps on a 20" FHD display, plenty enough for VFR flights and the necessary C172SP instruments.

    Just a quick question. I've checked around, but haven't found a definitive answer. Are there any potential conflicts between Air Manager and Spad.Next? I want to leverage Spad.Next for Saitek Radio Panel and flight controls (Honeycomb Alpha/Bravo etc) and Air Manager/Knobster/Touch for panel and gauges. I assume that as long as there is no overlap in control of vars/datarefs it should be ok?

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow  Před 2 lety

      I do not think there should be a compatibility problem but if you want to be sure you can download AM 4.0 and the plug in for your sims from the Sim Innovations wiki and run it in the demo mode. You are limited to a basic six pack of instruments but you can be sure it will play nice with spad.next. I haven’t heard anyone complain it doesn’t. Then if things are good you can just purchase a license and activate the copy you are using in demo mode to have full functionality and access to the almost 1000 free instruments. Let me know what you find.

      @@rbarlow Thanks for the reply will do. Trying to minimize number of plugins. Currently have Alpha/Bravo, StreamDeck, Class Echo, Saitek Radio Panel, and Thrustmaster TPR. Class Echo is currently only item that requires Spad.Next, although may be going away from it. Echo is nice but not open source or open to customization. You get what you get. Interoperability is one of those things not well covered. And not just for AM and Spad.Next, but others such as Lorbys AAO and Mobiflight, etc. Hoping the two play well as Air Manager is mostly display focused and Spad.Next is mostly control focused. Will let you know. Kind of committed as I've ordered the touch/knobster kit from FlightVelocity :)

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow  Před 2 lety +1

      actually if both the simulator and the panel computers are on the same local area network the panel computer should automatically connect to the simulator computer. You can also set the IP address of the sim manually too but is usually not necessary. If you were running the sim on more than one computer then the manually set up may be necessary. Otherwise it requires no special settings.

    • @rbarlow

      Popping out panels to tablet is a FPS hit and the tablet AirManager connects direct to the sim via your LAM so no sim performance loss.

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow  Před rokem

      1- it provides an independent instrument panel regardless of the view displayed in MSFS
      2- you can display a fuller outside view without having to share the instruments with the outside view
      3- on landing you can glance down at the panel without having to pan the view up and down
      4- on a touchscreen you can make more realistic panel inputs without using the mouse or keyboard. Knobster can make it even more realistic.
      5- if yo have a real airplane you can modify the panel to exactly replicate that airplane
      6- if you expand your cockpit to add some physical controls it is way using Air Manager
      7- Air Manager Panels can run on a separate computer via your local network allowing you to maximize performance on your sim computer
      If you need more I can probably think of a few more.. let me know

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow  Před 11 měsíci

      @@JohnVanderbeck while the actual app Air Manager is not open source it is extremely flexible to do almost anything in panel and instrument development and there are over 1000 free community shared instruments that can be modified or used as a reference. Lua is the scripting language and using the API you can create almost anything. I think they had a desire to support DCS a while back but it didn’t provide easy external sim access like P3D, MSFS and XP. Has that changed?

I had to go to windows settings Apps and Features and select Uninstall for both 64 bit and x86(32 bit) . It offers a Repair button and that fixed things. Okay Russ, I got the air manager to connect, BUT, now after I choose an instrument panel and fly X-plane the instruments don't work. I also connected the Wimaxit touch monitor and the touch feature doesn't work correctly. It seems my "calibrate" function of my windows says my touch monitor feature is not available. The monitor works fine, just when I touch the screen only my main monitor reacts and this is where the calibrate function should fix it. And it doesn't. Yes, after 3 days of learning and trying ways to fix this I'm still not up to speed and it is time to quit for a while unless you have any ideas.

    • @rbarlow
      @rbarlow  Před 2 lety

      @@stricklandgarageaviation2864 first let’s get the touch monitor working. The Wimaxit unit should have two usb-c ports , a mini -usb and HDMI. Use the HDMI for the video connection. I think one usb-c is marked power and you need to use the included adapter to power the monitor through that port. DONOT power that from your computer or usb hub. Connect the other usb-c to your usb bus (computer or hub) as this will communicate the touch inputs to your computer. The calibration will not work if it doesn’t sense the usb signal from the touch grid. The monitor will work as a monitor powered by the usb bus but the power is not sufficient to power the touch grid. Once it senses the touch the calibrate will offer the function to do that.
