less than 2% of singers know about their vocal muscles. Probably because less than 5% of vocal coaches have ever had a conversation with a singers vocal surgeon. Singers can be trained to do what this dr is doing for themselves....and much more. I believe in empowering singers to do it so they're not dependent on waiting on their specialist (happens all the time)

He didn't go into detail about what the exercises/massages were to relieve decreased range and fatigue on the throat. Does anyone know how to relieve the tension so we can have access to our full sound on our "off" days?
The better you're singing technique is, the less tension you have. So you should just practice singing with a proper technique and if you practice the right way, you'll minimise the tension and free your throat from strain.
I could really use some help getting thru fire season in Idaho. One gig outside for 3 hours in this horrid smoke and my voice is gone. And of course, a gig is upcoming usually in a day or a week. I'm going to give this a try. Any other tips for surviving fire season with a properly functioning voice would be greatly appreciated! So many summer gigs are outdoors for festivals, concert series, etc.

How did "Five For Fighting" sing like he did? Did he "strain" his voice to sing like that and ruined his voice? When I sing very high falsetto I am really tensing a lot of muscles to do it, but not so much in lower falsetto. I only do it in certain stanzas and not throughout a whole song. Is that wrong? I'm using a brand new Vicks portable sinus steamer as I get phlegm around my vocal cords some days and read that steaming helps clear them. The phlegm is there right away from the start and not because of previous singing. I hope I can resolve that with this steamer. This steamer, after just letting it steam through its 10 min cycle about 15 times so far to hopefully reduce the strong plastic smell, it's still strong. I wonder what some of the pro vocalists think about that. I feel they should have made the whole steamer from stainless steel, a stable material, as plastic is not chemically stable, especially under boiling temps resulting in accelerated off-gassing, like the smell when driving a brand new car.

im not a big fan of his but there is that one single where he sings with some grit, I sing rock and he is NOT singing with the grit the right way. which is probably why he cant replicate it live.

I had ACDF surgery on C4, C5, C6 & C7. I'm also a lead singer in a classic rock band. I woke from surgery with a very high pitched voice like I have a bad cold, no depth, no verbrato, no tone.... it's been 5 months now and about half the day I can force my voice lower to speak in a semi normal range. But I need my music back.... I don't feel like me without it. I definitely can't afford to see this Dr. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should start to work on getting my singing voice back?

Well that has nothing to do with this doctor lol. The massage therapy stuff he’s talking about is helpful for all singers when done right but Shawn has his own style of singing. Idk if I’d say it’s gonna buen him out but the doctor here sure won’t be the reason why lol

@Alec benjamin -Topic channel it’s really not about who can sing better or worse. Singing with a certain gruffness will eventually damage someone’s vocal chords. Look at Lauren Jauregui for example; absolutely fantastic voice, emotive and powerful, but for a long time she sang with a slightly off technique that made her voice become VERY hoarse and crack-y. He’s an amazing singer, he just needs to make sure he doesn’t run his voice into the ground :)
He was in puberty stage... I think it’s normal to have a voice like that when you’re going through puberty... but now his voice is stronger
