@@inside_fighting What exactly looks cool about this? It’s another “our system is based on reality” Krav Maga* offshoot from people without any real experience and a background story of a first time DnD player.
This guy thought he made something to sell the Emergency Response Teams based on his observations of said Krav Maga and Musado seminars. Nobody bought so he started catering towards scared moms and mall guards.
Now, what actually makes it a scam:
For a system, that claims they ‘don’t do bullshit’, does either plenty of bullshit that puts everyone at risk or does bullshit comparisons to make their point.
For the bs they teach, don’t know how to better explain, but let’s just say it’s very much what you would expect from an system with Krav Maga splattered all over it without a certified instructor.
For the BS they give examples of and compare to over the internet:
Sorudo since its ‘creation’ was dead until recently. Founder claims that he has 20+ yrs of experience with Sorudo, but until few years ago, there has been no word on the shtreets.
It came to be a recent thing with very strong words from this guy showing how bigger his balls are compared to self-defense tiktok and reels.
Eg. Knife attack vid. Sure it raises a valid point that the attacker probably has legs and can run too. But that was not his point. His point there was to laugh at people who advise victims of knife attacks to distract and run - for which he showed open-field/ city street examples and to prove his point, does the scenario in a closed office where he catches up with the victim only because the victim had to stop at a wall instead of running through the doors.
As for the rest of ‘his work’, it’s about as cool as any other ‘self-defense system’ that is being presented as the next big thing to police academies all around the central and eastern Europe.
*Krav Maga mentioned in relation as Krav Maga itself suffers from heavy McDojo flooding of pseudo instructors. It is meant only in these terms and in no way was put as an example to bash the system. Unfortunately, that is currently the closest problematic system I could tie it to these days.

You can choose to let them do what they want, or you can try to protect yourself, and I don't say that as one or the other being self-evident. Even if person B still wants to hurt him after engaging do you think person A would read the social cues that this is person B's intentions and navigate out of the situation?
We're not talking about someone who's pretty good at socializing but can mess up sometimes. Because I said charisma. Charisma is the ability to read people and know how to coerce people to like the person with high charisma. A extremely charming person. This isn't a gamble here. This is a guy who always gets people to like him. Because we are not arguing a average person here. We are arguing about charisma and it's affects in which it's affects would be this guy person A is so charming he can convince oil tycoons to give him free oil to sell back to them for double the price. Do you want to switch the argument to a real life gamble with a real person who is just good at socializing? If so then still charisma is a good skill to have. I agree it's not a be all end all. But I never said that charisma is the ultimate self defense. I'm stating the charisma is a overlooked tool among many tools.🤔

*Variables* is right on. When people join a martial arts school for self defense, they assume that fighting situations are like what you see on TV or movies, where it's fairly clear cut what to do. But in my experience, most street situations where you may need to fight are usually extremely weird and it's not at all clear what to do. This is why now believe that self defense training should involve a great deal of planning on various situations and how to react to them.

One with a "pew pew" & the other with a knife but i've basically trained martial arts my whole life & i still got stabbed 3 times, lost a chunk of my scalp from a bullet grazing my head, etc. My advice would be to exercise situ awareness & walk the str8 & narrow so you dont end up in those kinds of situs to begin with. People all too often look at MMA as the "pressure test" of anything with the words "self defense" attached. Well, if you wanna pressure test something you do so just like this. These are realistic scenarios more likely to happen. You don't get in the cage and dance around poking each other with jabs and teeps like thats actually gonna happen in a random physical altercation. People dont feel each other out, gauging reactions dancing around each other setting up their shots in a street fight.
Too many "Wing Chun guy gets destroyed by MMA guy" videos have ruined people's perception of physical altercations. Videos like this are what is needed.

@@inside_fighting I'm not trying to sound like a bad ass, but I grew up in a pretty rough spot, so I grew up fighting. Thankfully, the woman I married saw past what I put out there and made me the man and father I am today - showed me that we could just leave and start over in another state and be successful, without all the baggage of my past.
With that caveat, I feel like you're already at an advantage in a street fight, or self defense situation if you're able to keep a clear mind, remain alert, and learn to suppress that throbbing feeling and sound that clouds your senses when violence starts.
Most people you fight on the street fight in one of three ways, in my experience:
      1) Gorilla - The hold their fists high, elbows at like eye level, in a wide bladed stance. They'll often reach down and fumble with their pants, usually for no reason, though sometimes it's because they don't wear a belt. They'll try to stay on the outside and snipe you with downward strikes with their fists.
      2) Bicycle puncher - Dudes that square up in an almost wing chun kind of way, except they are leaned really far back with their chin up and just throw fast jabs over and over.
      3) Juggernaut - They have a more square stance and just throw wide haymakers, taking steps towarda you with each punch, with their chins tucked deep, exposing the crown of their head to you the whole time.
Anyways, your style seems pretty adept at countering all of these. I was wondering if you incorperate kicks at all? One of the first things my uncle taught my cousins and I as kids was something he called a "cross van", which was basically a knee kick. He taught us two variations, one was an actually kick that went across from your lead leg to the inside of your enemy's lead leg, aiming for their knee or just above it. The second way was more of a straight forward stomp aiming for their lead knee if they were standing with it exposed. He mantra was "If they can't walk, they can't fight."
Similarly, he taught us "tiger palm", which was a leverage based strike aimed at the clavicle with the meaty part of your palm in a sort of half closed fist. It wasn't something you could really do against someone much taller than you, but I've seen it used effectively more than once, and it's disgusting. Best way was to distract the person by palming their face with your left hand, trying to get your fingertipa in their eyes to make them recoil hard. When they turn their head, your try to drop as much weight and force down on that bone as possible.
Anyhow. Keep up the good work, I enjoy the content!
Edit: Holy crap. Sorry for the long ass rambling reply. . .

    Running depends on
    1) being able to run soon enough
    2) and fast enough
    3) and have somewhere safe to run to
    4) if the attacker(s) don't have a reason to want to get you personally
    5) if it's a "one and done" situation
    6) you are in a situation where there are clear escape routes
Domestic violence situation? Where you gonna run?
Criminal chooses a victim who is smaller, slower, or has limited mobility? Oops.
Debbie Leung did the best breakdown of self defense into Prevention, Avoidance (which includes running), Deterrence, and Resistance and later included De-Escalation. All of those are appropriate for different situations and different phases of an attack.

The last part, I've been saying it for a long time, the paradigm shouldn't be self-defense system vs combat sports system, but self-defense system on top of combat sports foundation. If you train MMA you get your basic fighting skills and physical attributes (even moreso if you additionally lift weights, which is also an add-on, and not necessarily part of the regular training) to be able to deal with the general pressure of fighting and to deliver enough damage with your attacks to incapacitate the attacker. With a self-defense system on top, you specialize those skills and attributes to work in non-rule based situations. If you only train MMA/combat sports, you lack the experience with unpredictable situations and could be overwhelmed if you find yourself in such a non-trained situation. If you only focus on scenario training and self-defense defense techniques, you probably haven't put in the time to really train your physical attributes.

*Overhand Right* the #1 attack. If there's one thing to remember in self defense that I learned here, it's to protect your head first last and always. One time I was across the street from a bar and saw some guy yelling "get out here!" and banging on the windows. Classic biker tough guy with the boots, pony tail, beard, and he was tall and pretty strong looking. An experienced street fighter you'd think. I thought "Whoever he's in a beef with is afraid to come out, can't say I blame him." Suddenly the door to the bar bursts open and out comes some dude who was considerably older and shorter with a huge beer belly. He charges up to biker guy. O boy here comes the fight. Biker guy, so hot a second ago, goes completely deer in the headlights like Wile E. Coyote, standing straight up with his arms by his side. Beer belly guy goes overhand right, bam, down goes biker guy, fight over. I can't imagine a street fight scenario where it was more clear cut on what to expect, and yet the supposed tough guy completely froze.

Your insight and analysis is very good.. You are very well trained and put educated thought into your views. Im interested in learning some self defense from your videos. I think your point of self defense training vs mma training is a good one. Most people cant commit their life to mma and learning every bad ass technique. Full time job, wife, kids, other hobbies, etc.. This system looks to be a very intelligent way to train for self defense, Im interested. Avoid dangerous places if you can. Street fights are scary! No rules and you never know what will happen? I started out getting robbed and jumped in the city as a kid, terrible public schools, worked in a tuff area later on, took public transportation, and walked through bad areas to get home. Sure wudda been nice to have a car back then! Ive been in quite a few street fights, won some, lost some, been rat packed, black eyes, broken fingers, got a tooth knocked out, concussion, even got stabbed once.. Never saw the blade and thought I was punched, lucky it was a small blade in a non critical place. Running is a good tool, when appropriate, just like anything else its just an option. Ive avoided many fights by running, before the distance was closed. Like you pointed out though, Ive seen people try to run and then been chased down and beaten. I even like talking my way out of a fight. Up close Footwork and keeping distance for me has always worked best when I can. Im no tuff guy. I wrestled in school and then I got into boxing for fun, and it helped with self defense. I always used a high guard with elbows out in the street to avoid the head shots.. They always throw head shots.. If you get attacked, If you can protect your head and let them throw a bunch of crazy punches, dont get knocked out, they will get tired and then its your turn. Also dont be afraid to strike first if you know there's gonna be a fight. Angles and footwork helps a lot. I liked to throw head shots too, In close I like hooks and uppercuts, they surprise people, and knock them out too. Solid body shots hurt people also. I liked low kicks straight into the shin, low push kicks (keeps people away), and foot stomps too. Those expandable batons are a good range tool, and they hurt, but against a motivated opponent they are lacking in power. They cut and make things bloody. I think a shorter billy cub would be better, doesn't give you range, but you can generate force and break stuff. All in all, self defense starts with decision making, where are you, can you avoid it? Fitness is a weapon too, stay in shape. I had a very tuff guy take me down and try to beat me and I was scared, I held onto him so he could not hurt me, he got tired, I was able to get up and run. Training strikes and defense against strikes for self defense if important. Sport fighting sure can develop brutal sills, but when you compete you are fighting with rules. Remove the rules and things can change, especially mentally, (there is no ref and there may be multiple attackers) your trained punches, kicks and chokes are still great and can still win the fight a lot of the time, but its not a sport, its for real, and things are different. What is your opponents mindset? There are some tuff ass crazy people out there! Street fights are scary, !

The back swing is just as important at the forehand. At a minimum, without a proficient backhand you have to complete three movements to get two strikes, whereas with a proficient backhand you keep a 1:1 ratio. Every move is an attack.

Enjoyed your insights as usual... Self protection is indeed a different animal. Little things like fighting habits. In any sports system one usually either (if grappling) tries to establish position first, or, tries to use a set up movement for a strike... for example a feint with a backfist to kick to the leg... You cannot use this strategy on the streets, instead you need to immediately do something to cause injury, take control, create some distance. Hence the concept of atemi waza and how it translates: In the ring if I come directly with technique against similar skilled opponent I get countered... on the street, My concern is creating a path to control for my safety, and my opponent will usually have some percieved advantage. But skill to counter a technique is not one of these advantages.
Your statement about a backhand strike. I agree. You have to position the stick so you can generate force from it coming down on the target, this is a hand movement and perhaps one of the few fine motor actions worth training in as second nature. Simply back handing is not a force generator. The baton is a great weapon, I consider it basically a stick with advantages.
My own approach is to concentrate on gross movement skills until good movement habits are second nature. Then people need to feel how your body behaves in survival mode, realize the importance of certain habits... and only then can technique develop effectively.

I grew up in a decent area, and still live in an ok area. I have (knocks on wood) never been suprised held up for money or anything.
I can say as on older person (45 this yr) that every altercation I've been in cpuld have most likely been difused if I swallowed my pride and just kept my big ass mouth shut.
This has resulted in waking up in a hospital twice, being charged and convicted once when the court determined mynactions went beyond defending ones self (kicked a guy in the head after he was already basically out, was still angry) and a slew of other incidents.
I was never one to start anything. If someone wanted to hurt me physically I would take it as offensive and it would really piss me off.
All this got me was hurt bad by multiple people when i thought i was fighting one, my ass kicked baddly by just one, amd things in my record that come up in background checks that will be there forever.
Part of self defense is checking the ego and pride. Looking back i really thing almost all of shit I've been through could have been avoided entirely.

Another opinion (and it is just an opinion, no right or wrong) is that a holding a closed position if you have the longer weapon allows you to cover more of your torso for protection against cuts should something get through. obviously, a longer weapon, time and distance should allow back hand strikes against the attackers lead arm if they close, but like everything, it's a trade off.

  • @MMAchampeen
    @MMAchampeen Před 3 měsíci +1

I always advocate for Mixed Martial Arts for self defense, because it's the most realistic. Mixed martial artists know that if you short stroke your punches like in the video, you will get hurt in the cage. In the street you will get hurt or killed if you think those short stroked punches or even those baton strikes will fend off serious attackers. If they practiced good technique in that area, I'd say it looks like a good system. That is a big factor in a fight though, especially on the street considering that most street fighters are going to be swinging for the fences, so you better be throwing strikes that are meant to put your opponent down as quick as possible, IMO.
Even though MMA alone doesn't teach you all the different street variables, if you train in MMA you will know what to do when put in pretty much any position, and you can use your MMA knowledge and technique to practice whatever scenarios you can think of. ✌💚..

The arguement about running away, seems to be from mostly sport martial artists. Of course if you can run, you would. There's a number of reasons why you can't run away. You could get attacked at home, at work, or you could be with out with your child/elderly family member. This martial art looks to be very well developed. Like you said, its best to train for multiple situations as possible. This is what I liked about Krav Maga, that it trained for multiple situations, compared to the training I was doing at the time. Although, I had to wait around 5 years from that point, for someone to bring it to my local area. Training people who are in wheelchairs are a great idea. Richard Dimitri has said multiple times, that if his 70+ year old mum, who's in a wheelchair can't do it, its not self defense. If you've not heard of him, you definitely need to check him out 😃

    @zacharyharwell351 Před 3 měsíci +2

As far as the "just run" stuff, I think that if you're within 10ft of the person, that's dumb as hell. 10ft is not hard to cross, especially if they're willing to lunge or jump, meaning that in the time it takes you to turn and take the first step, they may be able to take a step and jump, potentially driving a knife or some other weapon directly into your freshly exposed back.
Obviously this is modified by number of attackers, distance, state of the fight/encounter, and other things, but "just run" in many ways seems like a great way to find yourself on the receiving end of a very aggressive acupuncture session.

I think forehand strikes when nervous and afraid might lead to flailing/over commitmet and being off balance. You see it in videos of people throwing haymakers in a fight, they fall forward. Now imagine adding a weight to their hand. CZcams bar fights. A lot of arnis systems teach the backhand first against every angle of attack.
