  • In a well known hadith (tradition), the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) informed his nation that at the head of every century, there will be a mujadid (reviver) for his nation. For West Africa and the 13th hijri century, that man was most certainly Karamkhoba Touba. Born as Alajie Salim Gassama in 1733 in the village of Dide, Karamokhoba represented the 11th iteration in an abawi (paternal) line of knowledge from the days of Al Hajj Salim Suware. The conflicts in Bundu, where the Jakhanke had dispersed, had however stunted the expansion of knowledge. With a blessed destiny and civilizational foresight, the then named Diakhon Alajie embarked on a trip of knowledge in the early 1750s, at the height of the slave trade and beginning of European colonialism. This trip would feature miraculous occurrences, frequent danger and even jealousy. However, it would culminate in the revival of the Jakhanke Ethos in the establishment of his city, and the cementing of his status as the Great Teacher (Karamokhoba) of Diakha and West Africa.
