      True , but the temperature of the water needs to stay below 60. This is extremely hard to do outside. I have raised trout in my basement, since it never gets above 65 down there. They just won’t eat or grow above 60.
      There are many perch species that will tolerate higher temperatures and imho taste amazing. I raise these outside in kiddie pools, in 💯 percent shade and the perch do just fine .

    Good video on the various species. I got 50 "hatchery choice" a real mix of mozambique blue nile white and red. Now I am down to the surviving 10. It's been two years and some of them are huge. I had real issues with moving them this last time and lost 16 due to the move plus not having a good set up for them and overheating in plastic tanks. Fortunately they didn't all die and now they are in the hot tub. I use aquarium heaters/titanium ones and set them to 68. They seem happy enough. A while ago the heater sensors got yanked out and the water temp went up to 82. I couldn't figure out why they were eating so much. Put the sensors back into the water and back to 68. I set up 5 gallon plastic pots in there for shelter and seems to keep them not hassling each other. I can almost feed them all duckweed which I am growing in a half dozen tubs with some lighting on a timer. I'm using a fair amount of aeration and have some bio balls in a bag to provide bio filtration. The situation is pretty sustaining there is a lot of algae and water clarity just OK but usually I can just scoop off complete turds from the top and take it to the duckweed tubs for their nutrition then go back with some duckweed for the fish. They do like the pellets at some point the duckweed just isn't doing it but this way I can minimize the store bought food and it's a good way to get free healthier food than Purina. I will be starting the garden soon inside it's still a bit early but got the seeds ready. I will be using the fish water for the leafy stuff in some DWC tubs with the 2" foam on top. Well that's it a ramble but so it goes.

Second, as an avid traditional gardener and aquarist, I love this idea and love the last set of videos you put together up this wonderful setup, I see aquariums in the background possibly a system or tied into the current one? Do you have a video on that? Also, may have been asked before, is that the max yield of vegetable from this system, if so, what is your current water capacity and fish stock weight roughly. I'm getting ready to put one of these up indoors, live up north.

  • @kurttanner5855
    @kurttanner5855 Před 5 lety +16

    Lol. I have underwear older than you.
    Back in 1970s Florida, we only knew of one species. (I know of 4 mowing the wild) We called it Nile perch. It was nothing to catch them between 3 and 5 lb.
    They were infesting every available body of water they can find. We considered them trash fish.
    Then in the 80s, we were told there are two species. And that they are cichlids. Second species being blue.
    My how times have changed. We actually have a species in Florida that is salt water tolerant. And has a very beautiful iridescent color to it.
    So my dad has a 50-acre lake. We throw a cast net for the tilapia. Get 300 pounds a night of blue tilapia. Take them to the market.
    If the water temperature gets below 70, they bury down in the mud. You talk about disease resistance, catching them in the wild, they have a very thick coat of slime on them. That could be why they were considered trash fish. Great video. Very informative.👍
