    Thanks for this. I'm messing around with putting a cutter on one of my 3d printers to cut some vinyl for giggles. Always helpful to see how it's done by those who actually do it for a living.

  • @benmobbs

    Great video. I'm thankful this is much easier with Graphtec plotter and Cutting Master 3 - just generate the registration marks directly in Adobe Illustrator and select the colour to cut in the Cutting Master plugin (layers imported from Illustrator).
    Also those plotters are loud!! Individual setting of push rollers adds more motions to every stock change.
    I'd also say you don't necessarily need to use clear app tape, which is more expensive. The opacity of paper tape from a good brand really isn't that bad.

    Hey, what transfer tape do you use, I mainly use 651 as well but I'm always having trouble with the tape not being able to pull it off the paper.

    • @marcalt26
      @marcalt26 Před 4 lety

      I use oracal 651 as well. I just started recently and I was trying to figure out what transfer tape to use as well, so I googled it and found a forum talking about it, and many people recommend Greenstar transfer tape from UScutters. They say the clear and paper type work really good, but it is about $15 for a 6" x 100ft roll, and about $20 for a 12" x 100ft roll as well (they also have 100yard (300ft) rolls as well but they cost more.
      I just ordered the Greenstar transfer tape from UScutters website and the clear, and paper transfer tape works perfect with 651 and it also picks up the small details on decals that are about 2" H by 4" W, ease, just make sure you weed it properly, and you have your cutting depth, speed, and down force set properly.

    • @marcalt26
      @marcalt26 Před 4 lety

      Just an FYI or a heads up, I would not use the oracal transfer tape because it absolutely sucks at picking up the oracal 651 eventhough it is made by the same company.

    • @DMAXRYNO
      @DMAXRYNO  Před 7 lety

      natashally ares go to uscutter.com. Check out their SC cutter. Get the biggest one you can afford. You always want to go bigger than you think you'll need. For software, I use "sure cuts a lot pro". It came with the cutter and serves me well. Not sure what software they are shipping with them now.

    hi just got my cutter, new to all this, but when i cut the vinyl out the rollers are leaving a mark on the vinyl from the knurled rollers. how muck pressure should i have them

    • @DMAXRYNO
      @DMAXRYNO  Před 6 lety

      You'll just have to play with the tensioners on the rollers a bit until you find the right amount of pressure. It the marks are pretty light, they will go away on their own from the vinyl after it sits for a little bit.

    Question: Whats the measurement of the blade out of the holder? How do you set the level?

    • @DMAXRYNO
      @DMAXRYNO  Před 7 lety +3

      The measurements are microscopic, so can't really give a number. The best way to dial it in is pull the blade out of the blade holder, adjust it to a depth, and while holding it in your hand, use it to draw a circle on a scrap sheet of vinyl. check to see if the circle can be removed from the sheet. If it doesnt cut all the way through, adjust the blade so it sticks out farther. Do the opposite if its to deep and some of the backing paper comes with it when you try to remove the circle. It's a little bit of trial and error. You can also play with the pressure setting on the machine.

    But if you have a big decal, you will waste a lot of vinyl. In your case you would throw a lot of green finyl away because of the big rectangle arround it. I like this proces as well for the smaller decals. But I dont want to waste al that finyl. Does anyone have any tips for the larger decals?

    • @benmobbs
      @benmobbs Před 7 lety +3

      Generally sign makers don't give a shit about wasting PVC film. Bugs me too, and I'm a sign maker.
      What you could do is make/generate the registration marks just around the part in a different colour, and then cut about 80% less material. Then you could do it with just scraps.
