I love your work and the way you explain your techniques so well. Thanks!
You are so welcome!
It really does look 3D - I love the textures! This looks very relaxing to paint - sometimes on a nice rainy, cozy day at home, I love to work on something like this - no hurry, letting layers dry while listening to podcasts and working on other things in my craft room! Definitely bookmarking this for a few days from now - some storms moving in! Thank you, Karen - I look forward to trying my hand at negative painting!
Thank you so much! I really hope you enjoy painting this one 😊
@@KarenRiceArt Hi again! I didn't end up painting this last weekend, but I DID finally get to it yesterday! I am just putting some finishing touches on it tonight. I definitely went too dark on the middle layers, so I am lifting out some color and then will go back and "tidy up," as you say, and add those wonderful extras like the white spatter. It is still going to be bit dark overall, but for a first try, I am pleased! I am amazed that I got at least a semblance of the 3-D effect! Thanks for the guidance!
Amazing !!. I just love the design as well as the colors you chose, Karen. So well done
Beautiful!!!❤
I think I learned the basics of painting to capture 3-d, negative painting, from this tutorial. Thank you, Karen. I can't wait to try!

Excellent! I love painting pebbles and it's amazing to have found a tutorial on them. I love the way you found the pebbles hiding inside the paper. Greetings from Italy.

Amazing👏🏼
Thank you 🙌
Great tip! And I bet there are some other areas you could apply the same principle.
Absolutely!
I've painted trees a few times, using negative painting; One of my favorite ways to paint. I will try pebbles like this, as well. Separate leaves could be colorful and beautiful too. Thank you Karen, love watching your tutorials.
Thanks for sharing Mary Anne... I think the leaves negative painting is a wonderful idea!
C’est magnifique Karen, et en plus je viens de trouver comment faire pour traduire ta langue …. 🤗 merci pour toutes tes explications, je crois que je v me régaler 😊
That is wonderful! How did you do it?
Love it 😊💖
Yay! Thank you!
Very interesting to watch😊

You're welcome 😊
Absolutely love this. Can't wait to have a go!

@@KarenRiceArt I'm letting the last but one layer dry as we speak. it's been really interesting and a whole lot of fun doing this. I used left over dried puddles of paint from a previous painting, so I've cleaned up as I've played as well.
@@KarenRiceArt I finished it and am very happy with the results! Thank you - a great tutorial.
Hi Karen. Am just thinking that this would be great with shells on the beach. I love the sea and this would be amazing! Love your stones too. Thanks so much for your tutorials. Francie 😊
Great idea! Thank you 😊
awesome
Thank you 😊
This is amazing, watching the pebbles emerge! Super granulating pints or Daniel Smith’s “genuines” could work really well - inspired! I wonder if there is the possibility to create a floral using the technique… 🤔. Thanks so much for this 🙏
Thanks so much Chris! I like the idea of using Daniel Smith’s paints! Great suggestion btw! I hope you like tomorrows exclusive! I use some more negative painting techniques 😊
So very effective, Karen.
Thank you so much 😊
@@KarenRiceArt You are very welcome.
love using brusho
Danke!
Thank you so much!!
I love this effect, how could you make it look like it would the bed of a stream with flowing water
Thanks Rick... great suggestion!!
Cheers
Thanks David
This was fun but harder than it looks.
Thanks for the great tutorial. Could you tell me whose palette you’re using. I’m looking for one that doesn’t rust and I don’t see rust on yours despite it being very wet.
Hi David, thank you so much! I am using a heavy enamel paintbox by Loxley. You can find a link for it in the description.
I’ve just started art classes and we have a project week as the last lesson. I like the idea of doing some pebbles but won’t have time during the glass to allow it to dry naturally between layers. Could I use a hairdryer?
Yes you could use a
Hairdryer. Wait for the shine to go before you use it or it could move your paint.
Luv your work -What brand are your Asian looking brushes😊 thanks!
Thank you 😊 Black Velvet Brushes.
What is brusho? I have never heard of it. I love your style of teaching. Very clear
Nevermind my question! I see you have a video on what brusho is:-)
Thank you! Here is a video I published all about Brusho, hope you find it helpful: czcams.com/video/0Dc5uYUDMEE/video.html
This watercolor is so beautiful! How long does the painting take to dry in between layers?
Thank you! It all depends on the warmth of your surroundings and how wet your paper is.
When I've done negative painting, using Arches, I let it dry a good one hour; I live in an area with high humidity
❤😊
😮
This is very cool! What the heck is a cast shadow and how can I figure that one out????
Thank you 😊 A cast shadow is what we generally think of as a shadow. It's a shadow created by something block- ing the light source
@@KarenRiceArt Thank you so much for answering that. I understand now. Thought a case shadow was somehow different from "a shadow."
