I was having contractions all day. At like 10:00 pm my water broke. Went to the hospital, the nurse tried to tell me I wasn't ready, even after she checked me. Another nurse checked me and I was 9 cm dilated. And they were rushing me to sign papers etc. 2 hours later I had my baby!!

I am a heavily tattooed woman, so I simply *must* be on drugs according to medical professionals' initial assessments. I have been required to provide a drug screen at every hospital visit I have ever made in my adult life. Most of the time, they're just testing me and not my pee. I have watched more than one nurse take my sample, place it on a counter, and send a doctor my way without even testing it. The judgements based on appearance are generally wildly inaccurate in my experience. I don't even drink alcohol, let alone imbibe in street drugs, but I must assuage the concerns of the staff before I receive help. It makes me wonder what would happen in an emergent situation.
My husband, also heavily tattooed, gets seen by a physician right away when he has had to visit the hospital.

She was 2 months early and they were trying to let him bake as long as they could.. my sister thought she had to poop had me and my mom not got there when we did no telling what would have happened.. her nurse let her go to the bathroom she went to push and my nephew head was coming out as we were walking through the room smh. Had to call all drs on duty in.
Even myself when I had got my epidural it was a student in training and they were nervous they couldn’t even stick me from hands shaking I told that nurse I’m not a experiment and either they do it or call someone else lol. We have to protect ourselves at all cost.

Last year my sister had a stillborn at 9 moths this would’ve been her first girl out of 6 kids, she was so happy and ready to welcome her. Well she was having some issues and went to the hospital the nurse told her she was fine and the next day she went into labor and almost lost her life. I think we need to really net vet these nurses because you never know what going on behind closed doors after hours when no one can visit. Do your research on any loved ones doctor and nurse it’s a lot of power these people have in that line of work.

When I told my doctor I was in labor he literally told me “you wouldn’t be able to call me right now if you were in labor, you’re fine.” I ignored him, went to the hospital and I was literally 6 CM dilated and my water was broke. Turns out it broke while I was in the shower and hadn’t realized it.
On top of that, I too was stuck in my back by a student and he stuck me TWICE also. My back is messed up now and I wish I would’ve spoken up for myself but I was young and didn’t know any better.

Tropic Thuder is the only acceptable version of modern day black face. Because the movie was about highlighting bad Hollywood tropes from the past, like blackface, mentally impared people, method acting (which still happens), unsafe work environments, etc. It used blackface to show how wrong blackface is. Spike Lee did it in the movie "Bamboozled" as well.

I was young when I had my 3rd child , the dr was tryn to find out why the contraction were not showing up on the machine , I told the nurse “I have to push”, nurse stated “ u have not dilated 8 cm in 24 minutes”, next thing I know the baby popped out , then here come everyone running…

They almost let me die…I woke up after my c-section early before they administered any pain medicine. I past out and stop breathing twice while in the hospital. The nurse ignored me when I told her something wasn’t right. I have had horrible experiences as a Blk woman under hospital care. They treated me as if I could feel pain or they just didn’t care. 🤦🏾♀️

As a black female physician and advocate for black women's health, I agree there is a disconnect between many of my peers and the care of black women. However, I don't appreciate how Kyla Pratt's story was misconstrued by @cthagod (review the video). She said THE NURSE ignored her contractions but THE DOCTOR confirmed she was indeed having contractions and went on to deliver her baby safely. The NURSE was not acting within the scope of her practice as a NURSE and misspoke in this situation. Stop generalizing your statements, (we are not the same) and give credit where it is due. Instead, encourage black women to speak up when they feel unheard or dismissed, much like Jess spoke of. I am proud to empower black women with knowledge so they can advocate for themselves too.
To me blackface is something specific and racist. A white or lighter skinned actor wearing dark make up to play a role isnt the same as blackface.

RE: Child Entertainers - Both parents and child make sacrifices for the family, but it's an extra burden on the child who shouldn't be in the providing position... which can build resentment later on. It takes a special parent to recognize and do what's in the best interest of the child. Unfortunately, some parents see their child as a cash cow, and subject them to becoming a Hollywood child statistic. I get Zendaya... you want to experience normalcy on years that you can't get back, yet fear that if you stop... the "How" and "What if's". Gotta take a leap of faith.
