Trains 21 is a documentary of railroading in the 21st century and a look at the fascinating world of transportation. On this channel we deal with all aspects of trains with a strong focus on the Northeast USA.
The goal is for you to learn a lot in a short amount of time.. A major infusion of knowledge in just a few minutes.. And if those few minutes distilled some of the best railroad information in the industry, we feel that we've done our job..
The trick is clarity.. Clear, concise and on point.. New videos are uploaded frequently and if you like what you see, comment, like and subscribe (in that order!).

Nice old Alcos!🛤🚂
As long as they keep making parts for these ALCO prime movers, there's no reason to put these old girls out to pasture.
And if there are no parts no more put all of them in museums for poeple to see
Seriously!!!
Does this railfan's heart good to see the big six axle ALCo/MLWs having a safe place to work for tge foreseeable future. Certainly nothing like that here in California. Would love to travel to that part of tge country to hear the 251 chug in person some day.
Hello AC. Thanks for keeping the History of the Railroads ALIVE. 👍🙏
Can't think of a better place for these four pieces of railroading history to go!
I converted my 4301 R3 Delaware-Lackawanna to PRR 4301..
Genesee Valley has a single GP7 under restoration in Scranton and an SW9 which is used in Depew and Lancaster,NY.
Alco locomotives are reliable and dependable transportation. As long as are maintained properly. Alco Products still provide parts supply. As four stroke diesels they are much more pollution free compared to EMD 2 stroke diesels.
well that's four more to pull one train with.
Never understood why railroads don't rebuild engines instead of getting rid of them. The NS and Canadian National have done this for decades. The small railroad I worked for rebuilt GP35s and they still run great.
Sometimes there are things going on you and I aren't privvy to but I hear you.
Things like by-back and leasing schemes for example.
Perhaps many railroads' accounting department has run the numbers and implemented a plan that we have no idea about, and I just bet no two businesses are the same, and the case for newer locos is entirely dependent on their circumstance.
Where I work we have old trucks maintained by the depot but a whole lot of brand new leased ones with guaranteed replacement at 600,000 miles. They will get to that in 6 years so on certain contracts it makes sense.
it wasn't long ago NS was saying they won't have enough 4 axle power to do smaller jobs. Didn't see that coming... nope.
Elderly Alcos still holding strong
M636 #636 was spotted around Olean, lettered for the NYLE. So it’s either going directly to them or to the Oil Creek and Titusville. Most likely NYLE, we assume. However a couple months back, a plow marked for the NYLE ended up on the OC&T, so who knows. As for the other 2 units (631 & 2338), they might be getting the scrappers torch, along with a four axle parts unit #4223, but that is only a rumor for the time being.
In other news The LA&L recently got a grant from the state of NY to design and construct their own epa tier 3 emissions compliant locomotives. Those won’t be around for at least a few years according to one of the articles I read.
the Livonia Avon and Lakeville railroad has donated LAL 20 RS1 in 2022 . LAL 72 S2 was donated this year and both were donated to the Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum that is tied onto the LAL. LAL 418 RS36, LAL 420 C420 high hood, LAL 425 C425, LAL 428 C424 and LAL 433 C430 are currently on the LAL for now.
Fantastic video. Loved the information.
Love this report…….long live the wonderful ALCOs 👍
Good video. I love those old Alco/MLW units.
Theeeeee best Cartier Alco pulling hard vids are by jackmp294.5 cartier alco. I never was that much of a fan of Alco's until seeing Jack's Cartier vids. What workhorses, ALCo Chuggin. The #41 in your vid here, he has that pulling a load of logs, comin roun the bend. Good chuggin
LA&L's ALCO era will sadly only last for a few more years, recently they got a 12 million dollar grant from the FRA to buy 6 new locomotives, which will replace many ALCOs in use across their 4 railroads. These will likely be newer or rebuilt EMD engines but there really is not much info about this yet. It is unfortunate that ALCOs are nearing their end though, as many of the units in the LA&L fleet are very rare and the last of their kind.
Just wait-- what if those newer locos don't work out--- then what??
Why did Doyle sell his PA? I thought he was all fired up to get it back on the rails.
PROBABLY DUE TO HIS AGE!!
UNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE NO SHOPS AVAILABLE YET FOR US OLD HEAD RAILROADERS TO GET
“CLASS REBUILDS”
TO “AS NEW “CONDITION !!!
KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!!
👍👍
Thanx for the video. Love look and sound of the Alco locomotives.
Alco paradise 👍
I was going to make a video on these, but I’m waiting to catch them in action first
Excellent video AC. A great update for sure.
Update ? I agree.
Excellent ? I saw more covered hoppers than locos....
Happy New Year AC and thanks for the great video

My friend 😁 excellent video and Greeting 🙋🏻
Where have you been? Your videos were greatly missed!
Happy new year good trains
Nice shot
Neat to see!
nice
Watching what is happening in California with the EPA and the older EMDs. Afraid the EPA will eventually come after all non-emissions compliant older locomotives...
That's allright--- when the government there runs all the diesel locos, and diesel trucks out of Crappyfornia, then see how the state really goes.
They will be missed here on the Wnyp
👍😃😃😃🚂🇬🇧
