Awesome 👍 I like the added turn signals!
Thanks - yeah, I didn’t feel comfortable with just the strip LED under the seat.
Good job Jerry, best video concerning the GT650 tail replacement.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Another BRILLIANT install!!!! Excellent idea of saving the original to be able to swap out options for luggage!!!!!
Thanks - the idea may be good but we'll see how well it works once I get the chance to make it.
Very detailed video. Great job.
Thanks Jerry! This was a VERY valuable video for me to do the install. The only change I did was wire it such that the whole light is just a tail and brake light. I mounted my TEC signal lights to the shocks. I think it makes the braking light more apparent and the color of the signal lights I have is green, not yellow anyway.
Was curious about how the light set up works on this, thank you for being so in depth! In Nevada as well so hopefully I get to see your bike out and about too.
Glad you found it helpful... I have yet to see any Royal Enfields out in the wild, not very popular in the US. I'm looking forward to doing a lot of rides around the Vegas area.
@@RideWithJerry once I complete my MSF course you’ll probably see me on my interceptor.
What an inspiration such content would build 😇 perfect place to chop off, provided not for pillion ride 👌
No pillion rider, just me!
So clean, it would be an example for the word clean in the dictionary. If I were to do this, I would disconnect the turn signal wires from the brake light strip, keeping only the small circular turn signals
Great video! Lots of help!
Thanks, glad you found it helpful!
Nicely done.
Great video and very explanative. I might do something similar and copy your steps! Thank you.
Glad you found it helpful - It can seem like a lot but once you get started it's pretty simple to figure out.
Great video thank you .
Thanks!
Nice work 👍🏻
Thanks!
Hi. Great video. Will follow this step by step.
When it comes to the plug and play wire kit from Tec; was there a connection for all the wires (blinkers, break, plate, and so on).
👍👍👍
👍thanks!
Hey Jerry, love the LD reference. Question, what size is your upgraded LED strip and where did it come from? Also, did the LED turn signals from Amazon come with the two brackets? I did not see the mentioning of the brackets on the Amazon listing that you provided in the description. If the brackets were not included with the turn signal kit from Amazon; where did you get them from? Awesome video man!
I got the brackets on Amazon. The hole in the bracket was actually a little too small to fit over the rear suspension peg and I had to file the hole to make it a bit larger. The LED is an 8" strip, same as the MK Designs LED, just slighly better quality. Brackets: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079K1QZM1/
So I decided to try this mod to my bike with the XL Shorty Kit which is the same size as the stock seat. It requires cutting closer to the end of the frame because the male ends (of the shorty kit) that fits into the female slots (of the frame) are too large. In order to get the seat to line up with the end of the tail, you have to cut further in where the pipe increases in diameter. Only problem is, the piece that's suppose to slot in is too short width wise and the slot isn't big enough. Now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do next. Probably going to go to a metal fab shop and have them recreate the piece with the appropriate length.
Also, maybe I missed it, but I thought the shorty kit piece was metal, it's not, it's some kind of carbon fiber or hard plastic.
Did you ever figure out a solution? Is the XL Shorty Kit designed to work with the stock seat or their slightly shorter (but longer than the single seat) brat style seat?
Where did you get the single seat setup, I can't seem to find the cowl in the chrome and black stripe. I have the exact same bike here in Reno NV, nice video!
Bought the seat and cowl separatly; found both on eBay. The chrome cowl listing I bought from is gone but this is a similar listing www.ebay.com/itm/255303145327
Great job! About to order the same kit for myself as well. Where in NV are you? I am from Henderson
.
Nice, good luck with the conversion! Keep the stock tail and make it swappable... I'm over here on the East side just a bit north of Henderson.
Hey Jerry! Do you have an image of the LED strip spliced/wired into the TEC RE wiring harness? You mentioned matching everything up in the video, but I'd like to see how you connected the LED wires to the wiring harness, if possible.
I already chopped my frame and installed the MK Designs tail kit on my Continental GT 650 - using the provided LED strip from MK (with the thin wires) - but I'm considering picking up this wiring harness from either TEC or Baxter Cycle for more reliability.
Thanks in advance!
No, I don't. Just the diagram I show in the video and then used a 9-volt battery to test the lights as I wired them together to make sure I was connecting the correct LED wires to the harness correctly. czcams.com/video/FCTT3XpI5O0/video.htmlsi=CZtzhzGsmlPb1U_c&t=924
Hi Jerry , great video, where did you get that wiring harness from ? Thanks
Got the wiring harness from Tec Bike Parts. They have a couple websites...
USA: www.tecbikepartsusa.com/Full_LED_Lighting_Kit_Chrome_p/re-r-wire.htm
England: www.tecbikeparts.com/product/rear-wiring-kit-royal-enfield-interceptor-continental-gt-650/
I wish you would have showed the process of matching up and soldering the original LED strip that comes with it, not using any adapters or plug and play kits. I didn’t order any of that stuff and was assuming you can just solder everything directly. Hope you can give some input
It's the same. The LED is the same and I bought a harness rather than cutting the one off the tail but it's the same connections.
Thanks for the thorough video. You worked your way through it well with the extra parts. But this shows me that this MK Designs is not very high quality. The steel loop fitting seems to work well, but not the rest of the kit.
The MK Designs hoop isn't metal, it's actually some kind of lightweigh composit material. The LED strip they provided is cheap but overall I like the design and it works well for what is intended.
Hello Jerry,
Thanks for posting this, it's very helpful for my own little projects on my motorcycle (the poor mechanic I am).
May I ask: what did you do with the separate licence plate light, did you just connected it together with the red light wire?
Thank you very much
Yes, connected to the red tail light (not the brake light.)
How do you feel about the MK tail piece being composite material and not metal. It's not being metal is one of the main things that has kept me from doing this modification to my GT.
I think it's fine. There is no weight or stress put on the tail piece so it doesn't need to be metal. Also, it's very lightweight so you're knocking about 4lbs off the weight of the bike.
Is the plate light a state regulation for you out in Nevada? It may just be the angle you used in that final shot of everything working, it looks like the light itself is very visible.
Yes, in Nevada it's required that the licences plate be illuminated at night. The shot of everything working made the light look more visible than from the angle it would normally be seen. It's not noticeable during the day but, even if it can be seen at night, I don't mind the extra visibility.
Nice!! I just got my new Continental GT. Are you in vegas? I can’t wait to start modding mine.
Congrats on the new bike! Yes, I'm in Vegas. I've seen a couple Interceptors around town but have yet to see another GT in the wild around here!
I followed your videos and have already replaced my exhaust, tail light assembly for the led light strip, front signals and replaced the stock mirrors for bar end ones. This bike barely looks like it did when I bought it last week. Lol😅. Picked up all the stuff for the 300 mile service coming up real soon. Maybe I’ll see you out there.
Might steal all of this tutorial and do a soldering version
I'd love to see it. I soldered the wires but it was my first time and NOT worth showing!
Question, bc i ended up doing this mod, but the provided tail light melted on me and im having electrical problems like crazy now..
Did you add any resistors or change the flasher relay out? Or any relay in general? Im just needing help.
what is the frame width? curious if this fits a cb750...
@ride.with.jerry love the video!! Can you share where you got the wiring harness?
TEC Bike Parts
Thanks!!
Man,i did a "sigh of relief" when you tested your seat fit before you cut..,i was almost yelling at my phone in panic, tessst the seatncowl fit...dont trust your eye measurements..looks excelent btw..(ps,only in india would they make the neg wire...white wow)personally i think those led strips detract from the 60s-70s isleofman tt feel of the conti, but yea your bikes prtty slick👍
Ha! Yes, probably not the most precise way to measure… it would really suck to measure wrong and cut too short!
@@RideWithJerry your doing it all yourself ..that earns respect in my book,i prefer to do it wrong(or right) 1st or3 times myself at least i know how to do it & you know you did it right ,not to mention that mind at eze feeling of knowing you did it yourself, thats an unexplainable feeling that only DUI buiders ever experience 👍,much respect to you
Exactly… one of the reasons I got this bike is so that I could modify myself and learn. In some of the videos I’ve done things the wrong or difficult way but that’s part of the enjoyment and experience, learning from doing it myself.
@@RideWithJerry just got my conti yesterday jerry, been collecting and sorting custom parts for a year now, question for you, were those mudguards on your girl orig metal or did you change the oem ones out,cos on the bakers white there plast...iky😃,and yeah they gotta go..ps thort i had subbd yoyr cannel but on rellok just then,it was'nt,sorted it now, goid channel you have btw,you have no bs just realtime reviews&work.
@@OldMotorbikeMan Congrats on the new bike, enjoy! - I removed the extra flap but I’ve still got the big ugly plastic stock mudguard fender on the front. I’ve been wanting to replace the front fender but have had a difficult time finding what I want for reasonable $$$. Baak has a nice short metal front fender but with fees + shipping it’s $200! I found one I liked on eBay but turned out to be a fake listing and they shipped me a stock fender; got my money back but wasted a month. I recently ordered a fender from CafeRaceWebShop for $85 but haven’t received it yet. Plastic but looks better than the stock (at lest in the photo.)
I’m about to order this and was hoping you could clarify how to do the wiring? I’m unsure how the MK wires connect to the stock wiring setup. Was it plug and play or did you need to solder or splice in any way? Im a dummy with electric work so a bit nervous I’d get in over my head here. Thank you, great video.
You have to cut & splice together. I bought a separate wiring harness so I could connect the MK lights to the new harness and then plug the new harness into the existing connection. That way I didn't have to cut any of the motorcycle's wiring.
@@RideWithJerry that’s great, I had heard of the Tec wiring harness but wasn’t sure if that would work here. I’ll pay the extra $40 to avoid splicing! Thank you!
Awesome set up. Where did you get the metal brackets for attaching the turn signals to the bike? 20:04
I got them off Amazon amzn.to/3TTbAgU But, what I didn't show in the video was that the bracket hole was just a tiny bit too small and I had to file the hole to fit around the suspension peg.
Beautiful bike! What kind of seat + cowl do you have?
I bought both the cowl and seat separately off eBay. I like the cowl, decent quality but did have some issues installing due to the mounting brackets not lining up properly.
Hey where did you get your chrome seat cowl from?? Please give me link
Bought it off eBay ebay.us/Qi3GFC
I already have aftermarket rear tail light and signals. Can I wire those up to the MK short tail, or do you have to use their lights?
You can use your lights. I didn't use the MK light, I used different tail lights and turn signals.
How and where did you get that chrome single seat cowl??
I ordered the chrome seat cowl off eBay from a company in India ebay.us/Qi3GFC
Too late but, are there any torque specs to the suspension or do I just go as tight as I comfortably can without stripping the threads?
Just saw this comment, so really really late! But, the service manual shows the torque for both the bottom and top shock "button head bolt" as 18 N∙m/1.8 kgf-m SCREENSHOT i.imgur.com/AIzDy9C.png
@@RideWithJerry Thanks for coming back to this!
I think I need to find a copy of that service manual. My owner's manual did not say anything about that so I just put off on doing one side.
Thanks, again!

Hi, I have a Interceptor650 with the same seat and cowl (in black) and I tried to laminate it with 3D foil in chrome and it did not work. How did you make it? :-) Looks great
You can buy it or make it yourself; I did both. The seat cowl in this video I bought off eBay, it’s a chrome, metal cowl and cost around $100 USD. In another video I tried to both paint and vinyl wrap a cowl. The results were just “ok” considering I’ve never done it before. But, you can get great results if you have it professionally vinyl wrapped. Here is my attempt

@@RideWithJerry Oh yes! That´s it! I just watched this video. Thank you so much 👍👍
Sir , from where did you but that small indicator and it's holder. Is it available on Amazon?
Yes, I got the small indicators on Amazon amzn.to/3EG9eec
I don't remember where I got the brackets but they didn't fit, I had to file the hole to make it larger to fit over the shock mount.
Hello it's pretty but we can no longer install a luggage rack because we remove the fixings
Yes... that is why I made it so I can put the long tail back on, so I can put luggage on the bike czcams.com/video/vf205bF4n-w/video.html
Please let us know what adapter you come up with because having the ability to swap the tail pieces is BRILLIANT!!!!! Also where did you buy the additional led strip?
I have to get the tools I need to make it but when I do, I'll share the idea 👍
I think I got the additional LED strip on Amazon... it was a little better than the provided strip but not by much.
How did you do the wiring, solder or crimping what kind of connectors
@ridewithjerry I second @oliverruffalo1058 comment. I am not an expert with wiring so knowing how you managed to tie together your small indicator lights in tandem with the LED light bar’s indicator wires would help me greatly. Thanks!
I twisted the wires together and soldered.
Just connected the wire from each light together to the turn signal wire connection.
Could you show the resulting appearance in a full side video shot?
Yes, I guess I don't really show the whole bike in most videos. I plan on doing a video showing the entire bike and the mods I've made once I finish a few more changes.
dear where you get that crome short cowl please do let mea now
eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/255303145327
Question, bc i ended up doing this mod, but the provided tail light melted on me and im having electrical problems like crazy now..
Did you add any resistors or change the flasher relay out? Or any relay in general? Im just needing help.
Not sure what would cause the light to melt... did you check all your wires to make sure none were exposed or bare wires touching anything? I didn't use the provided LED tail light, I bought a similar light that had slightly thicker wires (just a similar led I found on Amazon.) I also changed the flasher relay so I could adjust the blinker speed. But I don't think either of those changes would help with the issue you described.
alright so what i ended up doing was adding more LEDs with the adjust relay and it fixed everything, @@RideWithJerry
Sike, the tail light switch is whats setting it off.
how long did it take to recieve when you ordered it. i placed the order a week ago and still havent gotten any shipping info yet
Took a few days from the time I ordered until shipped. I don't remember how long the shipping too but I think I received it within two weeks. You should be able to log into the MK Designs webstie and check your order status, they'll provide tracking.
Where did you get the chrome backseat cover?
Got the chrome cowl off eBay ebay.us/WObyV5
Can you tell me how did you buy those led holder setup
mkdesignsindia.com
in theory is it strong enough to ride it with a pillion of like 220 lbs?
I have the same question! Doing this mod as soon as Jerry confirms this can handle the weight of a pillion
How to get the chrome cowl
I got the chrome cowl off eBay: ebay.us/Qi3GFC
Does the original seat still fit?
No, with the shorty tail, the original seat is too long. But I can swap the original stock tail back on the bike and then the original seat fits.
Where did you buy chrome cowl
I bought the chrome cowl off eBay: ebay.us/Qi3GFC
Does this affect the company's waranty ?
Probably! Fingers crossed that I don't have any major issues.
does this void the warranty?
I don't know 🤷♂ But, I did wait until after the first service just in case any major issue came up in the first 300 miles.
Where did you get the wiring harness
Got it from TEC Bike Parts www.tecbikepartsusa.com/Full_LED_Lighting_Kit_Chrome_p/re-r-wire.htm
@@RideWithJerry would this wire harness work for a RE Cont GT535?
@Simon Nguyen not sure. Probably best to contact the seller, see if it works or if they sell something specifically for the 535.
How did you get that bar which holds led strip
I bought the shorty tail kit from MK Designs: mkdesignsindia.com/product/shorty-tail-kit/#shorty-kit
