I'm pretty sure I got your tuning and the relative tunings matching proper.
Thanks Clifton!
Fantastic! Thanks. đ¶
Thanks for sharing these tunings with us Clifton. I know those are somehow like the holy grail for many of us đđ And thanks for everything you do to keep this tradition alive. Greetings from France.
Way to quick for this new comer but never seen these so happy to rewind and slow it down.
Spencer, I also listed each tuning in the description box under the video so you can grab a tuner or whatever and experiment with the tunings that way as well. Thanks for looking.
Thanks CLIFFTTON ,I'm saving this to my files ...dad's BANJO
Thank you, this is the best resource for getting around the open tunings I've come across.
Love the different tunings. I donât know any other you tuber who knows so much about traditional banjer and shares that wealth with us.
Your version of Jubilee was one of my first of your music. I love it so much-if you ever do a talk and lesson on that, I sure would be thankful! đ
WOW love this
Hi Fellow Commenters: đ2 years ago I wrote something like this on this video: âCan it be said that the reason that you play relative tuning (which works out to fCFAC on my meter ... gives you more options to nuance the tune? â đNow, my answer is Yes. I always go into what I call the âClifton Hickâs Open G Tuningâ for my singing. I can always go two steps up with my left hand or stay in open tuning for my voice.
Love the Darling Cora tuning with the identical first and second strings! Somethinâ else for me to test!
Some old timers referred to this and other tuning in which 3 strings are tuned alike as "dulcimer tunings." This is not the only one out there.
Oh, neat! So many cool facts. If I had a way to, I would totally support your Patreon page. Some day, for sure!
I understand. Most of the content on there is free to the public so keep checking over there--I have posted a lot of historical info there and will keep doing so.
Sure will! Thanks man!
Clifton, I have to admit, Darling Cora is the song that introduced me to your playing. And I still like yours the best, though I haven't incorporated any two-finger into mine yet (nor have I quite gotten the knack for singing along with this one for some reason). Great summary of tunings!
These postings are so helpful, thanks for your generosity and talent! Regards,
Jimp
Iâd love to have you as a teacher for banjo I have trouble learning over CZcams

Struggling to tune my 5th string
Hi
Thank you for alle your great videos.
I think it would be really fun, if you made a lesson om Old Man Can Your Dog Catch A Rabbit, its in the wierd tuning, Dead mans Tuning.
There is a live video with Chicken Train playing this song. It sounds like SO much fun. There is a very long lesson as well somewere, in 4 parts, but i never managed to make it work.
Is there a name to the tuning you use for Jake Gould's daughter song? By the way, can't thank you enough for these videos :) Your patreon page is by far the best spent dollar in a long time!
I learned that in f#DF#AD "Reubin tuning."
That's awesome... I love that song. Many thanks all the way from Sweden :)
How do you decide what tuning to use when your coming up with your arrangements. My ear isnât as trained as yours and itâs hard to figure out what tuning people are using in old recordings.
surprised you left out sawmill tuning gdgcd. unless perhaps you use a different tuning for the coo coo?
I actually just forgot it! I use that tuning to play Cuckoo, Pretty Polly, Bright Sunny South, Got No Honey Baby Now, Jubilee and I'm sure a few others.
