    Superb video with excellent knowledge as always Nic. Hats off... I am 6.1 and I use 59. Was talked in to it and since using it and getting used to it I really do feel comfortable. If I go back to 58 now I will have to make some setup adjustments, as you have shown here, so I shall take the easy route and stick to my 59. I really feel good with it particularly on long range power shots. Anyway, the elbow angle is interesting as it helps keeping it down... will try that out today as it might help my long standing bridge arm tendonitis problem ... ! BTW tell us about the Bruce Lee poster in the background I am sure its there to make a point and not merely out of aesthetics :) cheers

      Thank you Q. M. Sidd. I have always love the Bruce Lee movies... but his discipline, mindfullness, co-ordination, concentration, and dedication are perfect examples of the requirements serious snooker players need to follow.... PLUS he is using the Bo Staff in these pictures, which provided the perfect link to snooker that I was looking for!

    Excellent explanation and demonstration. Cue length is very crucial for technique oriented players...I am 5.10” and changed to 58” few years ago for some reasons. I have been struggling during pressure match play , otherwise in practise it doesn’t effect my game. Now revert back to 57” and cue feels more control and potting balls are a lot easier in match play. This is my experience , might not applicable to other players..😎

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you for sharing. It is crucial for ALL players! Most players have a cue that is longer than they need... which is not a problem UNLESS we over stretch into the cue to hold it at the butt end or over stretching the bridge arm forwards to prevent an over long bridge hand.

      Snooker Coaching At The Snooker Gym hi nick, thanks a lot for your valuable knowledgeable and tips. The way you think and explains and approaches towards the technicality of the game is best ever I seen in a coach., you are a credit to our game,
      Regarding cue specs, I am 5:10” and play with medium to long backswing on most of my shots. What’s the best cue specs which you would recommend for me?
      I was thinking to go for 571/2”, 9.7 with slim taper at top half, 29mm butt, 18oz-18.30oz.. any suggestions?

    Thanks. Excellent observations & tips. I am 5.10 ish. And play with 58”. But I hold cue a bit inside and little but cue butt over hanging. Does the shorter cue help to go through the cue ball more easily than longer cue.
    According to John Parris , ronnie plays with 58 1/8” cue. He seems like 5.10” or 5.11”. Paul from Stamford told my friend that Selby plays with 57 1/5”, considering Selby is over 6 feet..
    Different players play with diff length of cues. Luca brecel’s cue reaches almost to his ears while standing straight and holding it beside .
    I will try to concentrate on slightly bending bridge arm and see if my cue length is ok. Or I am extending my arm to accommodate cue length😇😇

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  Před 4 lety +1

      Most players have cues that are too long for them so they stretch the bridge arm too far forwards and the grip arm too far backwards of vertical. Optimise the four options in the video using a half butt that is 8 foot long and you will find the optimum length without trying to 'fit the cue'

  • @ernoeskeli1139
    @ernoeskeli1139 Před 4 lety

    I'm roughly the same height as you Nick (1 or 2 cm taller) and I'm in no need for any longer cue than the standard 58 inch cue. Maybe if you're close to being 2 meters tall then you might want to give the 59 inch cue a go but probably the vast majority of us will do just fine with the standard cue size.

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes Erno I agree - I see players with 61 inch cues sometimes and they are shorter than me! The problem then is that they STRETCH into their cue which means their bridge hand is too long, or their cue arm is well backwards of vertical at address position, or both!

  • @kwxlr686
    @kwxlr686 Před 2 lety

    My practice table/ room at home doesn't allow me to play with a normal size cue, so i startd playing with a shorter cue and found my cue action. But whenevr i play in clubs i struggle to play with regular cues and find that either im holding the cue far back or the extended butt (like you showed in the video) creates an error in my cue action. Does tht mean all my practice and work ive put in makes no sense if im changing cues?

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  Před 2 lety +1

      Keep your bridge arm angle, stance balance, and cue arm vertical at address the same on all shots if you can. You may need to choke the grip up the butt of the cue / shorten the bridge length to do so to enable you to adapt to all playing locations.

    I have also troubles with my alignment in shoulder and forearm. If i go down to the shot and position the cue tip on center ball and make sure that my forearm is perpendicular to the ground , the cue tip is pointing on the right side of the cue ball. In order tonbe straight agaon i have to widen my stance or i have to go off balance and stand sideways.

      It all depends on your shoulder angle relative to the line of aim, and your arm span. I have seen players your height be fine with a 58 inch cue as their shoulders are square to the shot. In reality, with a pro shoulder set up I would say not more than 60 inches.

      If your bridge arm is straight you risk the elbow floating above the table.
      Most pros bend the elbow to allow it to settle in the table bed and take the strain off the shoulder.
      I don't know what you mean by lifting your bridge arm.
      Any player can and should fall forwards - you have to find the ideal distance behind the white to allow this.

    Hey, I’m fairly short. 160cms in height and I find it uncomfortable to play with cues at snooker halls where I find myself holding the cue either too behind or way off balance too ahead.
    Should I buy myself a shorter cue? A 56 or a 55inch potentially? Unfortunately I don’t have access to these sizes around where I live (milton Keynes) so it can be tricky when I’m buying them.

    I like your explanation by exaggerating cute action too extreme. I used to do exactly what you are trying to demonstrate by stretching my bridge a bit too harsh and end up leaving no space for my cue to do feathers. 😊

  • @MANNNS1
    @MANNNS1 Před 7 měsíci

    Hi there, i am 5'4 feet tall and struggling to find a good cue length, i am currently using 56 inches cue, which is decent enough in length to reach on most of the shots comfortably. But sometimes i feel that 57inches would be better to reach on almost every shot when it comes to stretch for the lengthy shots. As i've heard from players that your cue should be levelled uptil your shoulders for a better control on the cue ball. But how's that possible, if i measure it that way then i will have to probably go with a 54 inches cue. Which is hard to reach on even a mid stretch length shot. Reason behind is they say u should hold the cue leaving 1-2 inches behind from the butt. Infact in my current cue i am already leaving 3-4 inches behind. Still find it short on some shots. So should i go with the 57 inch or stay with the 56 or 55.

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I would not have more than 2 inches hanging out of the back to avoid the cue being out of balance. You can then carry a small three inch extension for the stretchy shots you mention.

    Well done coach....
    By the way now twice I wrote out some invaluable facts that got washed away into Oblivion because of this garbage phone technology along with this garbage interface that CZcams has to offer.... Yes I understand it's a simple matter of subjugating myself to some form of precautionary method and it's related executions in order to safeguard Oblivion, and in my case of course, I am being unproductively humble when the fact of the matter is, anything I have to say about this business or endeavor of ultimately achieving what we know as a benchmark of high level navigation and success of ultimately delivering the cue stick where in the stand-up position is basically where failure or success starts and it's subsequent sequence into the finished position of physical alignment at address to the cue ball in order to structurally house the ideal platform for the ideal position of cue stick delivery is in fact the business end as far as I know in terms of the highest known levels of success as the Ronnie O'Sullivan's and Judd trumps and so on of the world as the benchmark in which one possibly seeks or should seek to achieve is now not a question of Oblivion when I say my invaluable words are now lost in a garbage vehicle of communique.....no.
    NO....NO SIR..... IT IS IN FACT ABSOLUTELY CATACLYSMIC.
    I HAVE FORGOTTEN, more than a pro knows and isn't it a cosmic tragedy of sorts that makes Shakespeare himself, relegated to the level of stagehand in terms and or relation to my genius.
    Excuse me please for being unproductively and/or to some degree deceptively humble at first in order to simply make what is fact more palatable where in simple frustration I am merely just simply pointing out the difference between sincerity and tragedy in the sense that sincere simply means I am genius and tragedy in this case having multiple reasons and thus the deception of it all when I now point out that if one is humble for the sake of compromising what is simply fact, then one compromises his own self and therefore subjects himself gladly and at the same time dissuades himself from what is fact that if one truly is genius then it is a tragedy that he compromises himself for the sake of others socially and it's discontents of social acceptability first as a rule of thumb and fact taking a distant second or God knows how far down the actual list, as well as the fact that even throughout history, A PROPHET at the very least has a room full of scribers who has a group have their system of hanging on this ordained vessel in which the power of the universe speaks through him and his words flow as if water from a running stream... endlessly where it has also been said that it has been known to wear out a room full of scribers by the time this messenger, this very special one, is now done speaking.....
    Yes, this special one, THIS genius, has not been allowed to speak, not once, not TWICE, but now POSSIBLY THRICE when considering I have not exactly finished this cosmic oration and written it in stone by signifying that fact with its subsequent and possibly cataclysmic event of physically pushing the highlighted blue words that spells out ..... COMMENT.
    Yes it is in fact a galactic tragedy that THE PROPHET is relegated to scribing out himself what should be catastrophic failure of what should be scribers out there in this world, no different than the holy Grail knights seeking me, the holy vessel in which the universe uses to speak from.
    Is this ultimately not more important than my genius? For what is truth when asked of Christ before his judge Pontius Pilate?
    .... Jesus being a righteous man and in fact the world's first high power attorney representing himself, when asked for what is truth, Jesus said nothing, proving once again over and over in what Pontius Pilate tried to do in this case of Justice, to try and outsmart Jesus to cover up his own criminality of being a paid tool of the Pharisees.
    Of course Pontius Pilate could not see truth standing right in front of him even to the point of his conscious or perhaps ego when considering he is supposed to be a judge and now cannot answer his own question in the arms of his loving wife.
    How obtuse the learned judge standing before his very own judge and blinded of what should be obvious to the point of blind loyalty TO MONEY....CASH, and his phari'si Masters.
    For I say I know truth, isn't it obvious?
