    I ended up buying a Match Champion a couple of years back because it just feels better in my hand, making the grip angle perfect for me. A very natural pointing revolver with a lot of great features - and it's built like a freakin' tank.

    I got the Match Champion back in 2016 because it is a modern day, high performance version of the Security Six. I gave my Match Champion an extra trigger job (all the way down to 3000 grit) and installed the Wolff Spring Kit for hammer and trigger springs. The SA pull is 2 lbs and the DA pull is 6 to 7 pounds and is smooth as a Python. This is gun Ruger should of made, but even at factory stock condition it is a truly great revolver. I also own a 6" version of the S&W 686. I agree with all of your points made about each revolver. You can't go wrong with either one....they are different, but outstanding at the same time and in their own way.

    Very nice pair of revolvers, I've always struggled with which one I'd like when I can afford to pull the trigger(pun intended), but now Ruger has the Redhawk in 357. Any thoughts if you could only have one?

    • @ramsrepublic8477
      @ramsrepublic8477 Před 5 lety +2

      I prefer Smiths. I like the fact that they are Forged while the Rugers are cast. Rugers have to be made more beefy to be as strong as S&W’s. Some people will say Rugers are tougher due to being beefier but this is not true. Do your own research on this particular topic before pulling the trigger. It is a big deal to me - others it might not be.

      Ken, if I could have only one I would say 686. However the only reason I say that is I've got year on the SW 686 and only had the Match Champion for a few weeks. If you plan to compete with the revolver then also look at the 686 SSR ... it's a better compassion to the Match Champion being a production gun made for competition.

      (ken mason - I have had mine 2 yeas and have put 1000 rounds of 357 through it. I never touched the lock and never had problems with it. I’ve heard stories of people’s locks being engaged due to recoil but I have never seen it on film so it could be hearsay.)Most people don’t like it for the looks of it. While we are on the topic of looks and new models - another internet discussion is barrel alignment - since they are no longer pinned - the ridges on top of the barrel on some guns do not line up evenly even though they are in spec. I bought mine from buds without inspecting it before hand and got lucky. If this is something that would grind your gears - buy it in person.

      Sorry about the background noise . I appreciate that feedback.
      As far as a pad or a cloth ... all my firearms are tools and are used as such.
      I respect the fact that some people prefer to treat their handguns differently. In fact I know several folks who have expensive handguns and never shoot them. The guns sit in the safe and are taken out, placed on a soft cloth and wiped down with a cleaning cloth before going back in the safe.

    I'm sure the S&M is a fairly good firearm but because of the politics of smith and wesson I will never buy one of their firearms. During the Clinton administration S&M supported all of his gun control laws. I don't know why but that along with S&M knowingly selling faulty model 686's sealed the deal for me.
