  • With all the scary talk of persistent herbicides contaminating organic garden soils, some of us need a way to be able to protect our gardens and home grown food from these chemicals.
Unfortunately, I have seen many gardens this year suffer from the use of persistent herbicides in commercial agriculture. Many other creators have shared their stories of contaminated soil in previous years. Typically, these herbicides are retained in hay and straw, and sometimes in bagged soils you buy at the store! These can include glyphosate, 2,4-D, Grazon, and many many others.
Unless you are testing your mulch and soil in a laboratory, it can be difficult to find a reliable source of outside mulch and soil for your homestead or garden. This is a very inexpensive and simple way to *roughly* test if your mulch is contaminated.
DIsclaimer: this is not a full-proof method and I am obviously not a scientist lol. But it has worked for me and many others and I hope it will help you and give you confidence to go wild this next gardening season... and PLANT ALL THE PLANTS :)
