- Woolston is a suburb of Southampton, once famous for its ship-building, and aviation. This is celebrated with the Millennium Garden and its 10 metre high metal and recycled glass feather, which signifies Woolston's history of flight and sail. Also shown in this video is the Itchen Bridge, the Woolston Picture Theatre (built in 1912), the the site of the Woolston Floating Bridge. From the Itchen Bridge you can see St. Mary's Stadium, home to Southampton Football Club.
Grew up in Bitterne, moved to Australia 7 yrs ago... While it brings back a lot of memories I can't say I miss it! 😂
I think I would rather live in Australia too! The weather here is awful. We're lucky we still have some nice countryside around, but there is so much building work going on I sometimes wonder if we'll have any left at this rate! 👍
Thanks for that! I grew up in Netley Abbey, so would pass through Woolston daily! I remember the floating bridge, when it changed into a night club. I also lived in The Cliff Hotel, the white building getting a refit by the look of it! It looks like Annie's cafe is still there!? Best cooked breakfast😁
Thanks for the comment! Netley Abbey is actually on my list of places to video, so once the better weather arrives I'll be there! 👍🙂
Left Woolston for Perth Oz 41 years ago. Grew up a little behind where that Lidyl store now is. It really dosen't look like it has changed for the better. Victoria rd was thriving back then. Thank you for posting. very interesting.
Many thanks for your comment! I agree, Woolston has changed a lot over the years, in fact I drove through there yesterday and it's amazing how many high-rise buildings are there now, just near the Lidl shop. I ought to go down there again and make another short video showing that part of the town. As soon as the weather improves here I will try to do just that 👍🙂
So many memories growing up near there Paul, thank you👍. Hope you had a nice big sandwich in the Oven door😋.
Thank you, glad you liked the video! 🙂👍
Very nostalgic well done Paul haven't been there for some time
Thanks, glad you liked it! I think this was the first time I walked on the actual bridge! 🙂👍
