- Ivan was very grateful for the opportunity to take the Hall Scott powered Peugeot to the track at Anglesey for a proper shakedown and to give his friend, Tom, the chance to get used to it. The conditions were wet in the morning, but dried out as the day progressed. The track was fantastic and the staff very welcoming. All in all a fabulous day out. Thanks to all concerned.

Doesn't matter if Red Bull or Mercedes have millions of quid for F1, watching that was far more entertaining. Thank you guys n gals.
Right? Like it is impressive to see those F1 cars go around the track at warp 9, but it isn't all that fun. If one wanted to make a racing series people want to watch they'd be smart to prohibit any computer use beyond basic EFI and telemetry, no ABS, traction control, active aero, etc. maybe even have a crappy spec tire. See the couple times a year NASCAR runs on a road course for a rough idea, especially the last laps.
Bolts may break but good old Tiger seal holds on tight! Car went well and Tom handled her excellently.

That driving on a very greasy track was pure magic he knows how to use a steering wheel like Fangio did that was some shake down I agree i was there several times with my Bsa Bantam racer what a great circuit and staff loved the video and the H&S thank you all Team Shed Racing.

I loved this Ivan. Even Tom had to grunt a bit getting out of the car after being on the track in the wet for that long. He is quite good considering he's literally muscling a 10 liter aircraft engine in a featherweight frame with bicycle tires for traction. What fell off wasn't critical and besides, I had to laugh when you showed the flower foam for soaking up the oil. Not bad really.

If you could get 'Aerosmith' to record "Living On The Edge" with the word 'Driving', you have Tom's skills in a song. Well done Tom ! He kept the car right at it's limits and managed it so well.
Great video, reminded me of when I raced my little fifty cc motorbike there, it was very rainy for practice and much to my surprise I was fastest (I am and was a fat old geezer of average ability) of course it dried up for racing and everybody buggered off and left me for dead, ah well I enjoyed my moment in the rain!

I remember Anglesey as being wet and windy more often than not, when I raced bikes there a couple of times a year.
It made up for the misery by being absolutely beautiful when the sun broke through and the clouds became white puff balls in the sky.
The Hall-Scott looks to be quite a sideways event to drive. Great fun, I’ll bet it’s a decent workout too.

The last several days have yielded a multitude of riches from Ivan. All well enjoyed and much appreciated. English weather to boot!
Tremendous. Loved the commentary. And that sound! Don'tknow why but somehow I'd expected the exhaust to have strangled it a bit. Lovely stuff.
Love to see a current F1 driver in one of these to see how he fairs.
Ivan, I haven't seen a single car pass him. I he spent two hours out there he was definately having fun. I'm just finishing up a 195 Singer SM1500 roadster. Left off every bit not absolutely necessary . No fenders, no runningboards, no hood, no hoodsides, no convertible top mess, just the pins for a tonneau. The entire car is rebuilt down to the last nut. and bolt. Replaced many of the nails with screws. Used stainless throughout. Cut down the windscreen, and made a lighter aluminum frame for it. Put rudge hubs on it and am running an old set of Jaguar wheels with the fronts narrowed 1.5". I have a 1965 Sunbeam Tiger ready for final assembly also as a street/track compromise. ,also assembled as light as possible using the hard top alone. I also have a 1959 Hillman Husky with QA1 coilovers, and a polished out, and chromed Jag rear IRS nicely adapted in. It was already set up for smallblock Ford V8 when I found it so will modify front suspension to accept a rack, and pinion setup. It has a large fuel cell already installed as well. I must say I have thought about doing something more radical intended for desert romping. Building a custom frame, lengthening it, and really making a hotrod style toy out of it. We shall see on that one, I should start with something rough, and not as far along as a street/track restomod as right now the body is perfect, sporting new rubbers, new lenses, all trim in place, original paint, zero rust, perfect glass, so far modified with the best period parts only where you cant see.

You and I have the same problem, Ivan: restricted articulation of the neck. It's a by product of all that radiotherapy when we were treated for throat cancer.

I'm sure I watched some film of Lewis driving a black ERA at Donnington, or somewhere. I looked on YT, but couldn't find it. I shall be looking out for the Hall Scott at Goodwood this year. The Revival meeting is a great watch on their YT channel, live coverage all weekend. Ivan is on some of the stuff from previous years too.
The ERA video must've been Andrew Jordan testing ERA R4D at Donington...

It would be interesting to hear Tom's comments on the interesting moments on the in car video, and his take on your comments about his driving, just a thought. You are right Anglesey does have that feel of an old track with the atmosphere of a bygone age of amateur enthusiast drivers.

You can buy oil absorbent sheets for use under boat engines that might work better in that undertray. Car looked very well behaved, will be interesting to see it at Goodwood after another round of tweaks.

During races at Goodwood, there are sometimes video segments recorded in competing cars. I don't understand why competitors are not allowed to have their own video cameras.
Wonderful to get to see young Tom thrash that lovely old bus around the circuit while listening to you talk him through it, Ivan! And, though the tires on it weren’t quite skinny, this brought to mind how much I enjoyed, as a young fellow, whipping my mother’s ‘65 Ford Galaxie through the twisty bits around a South Florida golf course during a good rain! ❤ Thanks for another great video! ❤

I retired to Anglesey and this track was one of the reasons. Lots of action there during the summer and nowhere prettier when the sun shines. I hope you return one day for a public meeting and I can see your wonderful car in the flesh.
The only thing I've seen in recent history remotley approaching that for entertainment was an incar of Tom Kristensen taming Bill Shepherd's mighty Thunderbird round Goodwood, possibly a similar ratio of power to lack of rubber ??
I'm not trying to be facetious or anything, but that reminded me of my misspent youth hustling my old mk2 Transit about. Rear wheel drive, skinny tyres, and leaf springs all round, great fun. 😀

I think you were spot on when you were describing Tom going around the track. That was a load of fun to watch. It is a testament to how well you and John put that car together. Tom was having fun out there. That is a lovely, strong car.

We used to call our motorcycles "cafe racers" because we raced from cafe to cafe.

Hey Ivan, you're going to need to have a big magnet under that H&S to catch the ferrous bits as they come away. You wouldn't want to be spreading "shrapnel" about Goodwood.
You want to be careful about "having a go" at them women, they hold "mysterious" powers to bring a man undone you know.

Anglesey is a great circuit. I've rallied there a few times and been round the track in all sorts, including a 3 tonne Dodge Ram dually pickup.
That square left at the top of the hill is ace. It's completely blind. They used to have a stack of tyres painted orange sat on the apex, and you stayed out right and just turned in and aimed for the tyres. They're not there now, but there is a black & white marker post in the same position now.
Having recently driven one of those I can’t even imagine taking one around a circuit.
@@blacksquirrel4008, a dually? It's a 5.9 Cummins 24valve. I was Sector Marshal on a rally at the circuit and took the Chief Marshal out for a ride around the first stage, to check it was set out correctly. We were using the concrete access roads up round the top of the circuit as well as the circuit itself.
When we got back into the pits, having done the complete stage at full chat, the front brake pads were on fire, and we had to drive around until someone was able to bring a CO2 extinguisher to put them out.
It was amusing.

AH, I've come off Goodwood since they've started putting the Auctions and promoting all the new cars, I mean they do a great thing with the members meeting don't get me wrong. Great for them, but for an average joe it's kind of saying - look at all this stuff, but don't touch - you'll never be able to afford it.. Plus what they do with the auctions must be skating on illegal, the people in charge also own alot of the cars passing through there and you can't tell me there aren't manipulating the prices can you..
