Saddler Vaden is an underrated monster.
Completely agree!
That dude is such a beast. The 400 unit are complete professionals.
YES!
Discovered Sadler playing with Drivin' n Cryin' at a show in a garage in Richmond, Virginia. Blew my mind.
👆100%
If any of ya'll haven't seen Jason and the 400 Unit live...do yourself a favor and go to a show! They are always so tight!
Crying in EU
They are flawless! In the pocket!
I’ve known Sadler for many years and he always moves me when he plays. Absolute gem. Somewhere in the galaxy his folks are smiling and proud of their little boy. What a treasure.
Love him!
The musicianship displayed here is just off the charts, by both of them. That Driver 8, holy shit...
Jason and Sadler are great artist. Love the concise meaningful lyrics Jason puts in all of his songs.
Waited two years for the show they played that night. Cried.
I just finished washing the dishes after shedding a few meaningful tears because of this line, "Sometimes it's nothing but the way you were raised and it could've been worse."
That was a good cry. Thanks Jason and Sadler!
The chorus beforehand got me "sometimes it's nothing but the way you're wired and it's not your fault, suffering through a world on fire and the fear we're taught" 👌he's got so many gems.
Jason's picking is so clean. He's an underrated acoustic player. He has a hybrid picking style that includes occaisional chicken picking that makes it sound like he is finger picking except he is using a pick. Sadler is also an exceptional player...excellent accompanist.
For sure! I feel like he’s really improved his guitar skills last 2 yrs…. He’s always been good but now he’s melting faces!
@@MrBuell01 he’s always considered himself a guitarist first and I think quarantine really gave him time to do some honing of his craft
Saw him a few years ago. I don't think I've ever seen a better group of musicians play together.
stunning, just stunning..."but I got arms and I got ears, and I will always be right here"...best songwriter writing today
Our 12 year old cow hound dog had to be put to rest yesterday so this is just what the heart needs. Thank you KEXP.
My god this guy is so talented and yet still fucking perfectly describes what so many of us are dealing with on the daily. I still don’t know how it took me until July 2023 to find this magician.
It’s okay homie look sometimes ya gotta just cry. I miss her too.
If you haven’t already, listen to his two songs, Outfit and Decoration Day, from the Drive-By Truckers’ album Decoration Day.-his first of three albums with them. He was just a kid, but OMG.
Same!
He his lived and experienced all of our Day to Days. He is a real normal dude with an amazing gift and talent to convey our feelings we can’t put into words ourselves.
Only Children is sublime. The solo he busts out killed me, I didn't know that Isbell could cut like that.
Damn man, Jason can shred for sure. I know it gets lost sometimes between the writing and stuff but every time he plays with someone different on stage he's a hell of a servant of song. Grade A player man.
St. Peter's Autograph was brilliant.
I have not been aware of your music but you brought me to tears with Only Children. It’s like you watched my life and put it in a song. I walked thru it all, but when you hear these lyrics it’s like yesterday. It’s so important to have these moments to keep us humble and connected to all we experience. Putting in a lock box is a dangerous thing, one moment that lock can be broken and the content spilled out in the most destructive way! Only by staying connected do we remember why we can not put our hand back in💞
That's beautiful 🤙🏻
Very well said..
A touch of grace. Their songs explode my heart.
Best songwriter alive today. So great to see Cheryl, as always. Sadler Vaden is a verified Bada** on that guitar.
It’s wild that Jason Isbell had been on this radio show with Cheryl Waters hosting for over a decade now. I love his music.
One of the best song writers out there. Great live performer as well.
Loved hearing Tour of Duty. "Been eating like I'm out on bail".
I just busted out laughing during Jason’s solo in Tour of Duty. He’s just wildly well practiced (talented if you want to discount the hard work). The musicianship in these four songs alone from Sadler and Jason is so much fun to see.
Saw him when he was with the DBT's in Birmingham UK. He strolled out with the band and told us all to: Yow awl listen up now!!! I loved that confidence and his and the bands ability just shone through. That was obviously in his drinking period. Now he has sorted himself out he is even better. Everything he plays and sings is tremendous.
i love how well you can hear Sadler's harmonies. Great all around.
I could hear every word! I love that, I can listen to instrumental all day long, but if there’s vocals I want to understand them. Folks that run out of breath so the word is lost really frustrate me. If you have something to say then it’s important that it’s heard. Impeccable performance 💞
Love how he keeps pulling Saddler into the interview. Class act!
True Southern Gentleman! He was obviously raised well.
This is how I wanna see a complete Isbell show. I love his wife and the 500 Unit but I never got to see an Isbell acoustic solo show.
So much heart, emotion, strength and comfort in that voice, those guitars. Completely healing. Amazing. Thank you Jason, Sadler, and Cheryl and the always incredible production team at KEXP!
So happy Jason got some recognition for his vocals!
This guy... Excellent sound and mind.
Always love seeing Jason perform. Amazing playing gentlemen!
What a great set ,only wish it was longer !! Thank you guys!
The clip I saw of just a few seconds of St. Peter's Autograph gave me goosebumps.
What a gem!! The beauty of “let’s get together and sing” with Jason and Sadler!
Once again an excellent performance by Jason and Sadler.
Enjoyed it very much
Wow!... Great voices and beautiful songs!
Two of the most talented in the industry
Sorry I missed the Seattle show this year but thankful for KEXP session. The conversation and stories were refreshing.
Isbell is brilliant and some of the best music being made today. Sadler Vaden syncs him Jason like Maury Muehleisen did with Jim Croce. So nice.
How did I just come across this…? What a great set!
Loved hearing a 2022 performance of Tour of Duty!
Thanks for always delivering great content!
These guys are awesome; such a sweet, sweet sound!
Wonderful !!!! Really wonderful !
Great set. Super sound quality.
Saw Jason and the 400 unit, and they were absolutely amazing! These can sing and play guitar like no one's business
Sounding better than ever…great songwriter and really enjoyed the Driver 8 cover . Think I’m heading off to be with Vic Chesnutt now…thanks Cheryl
what a joy to listen to your singing
Amazing. Just amazing!
Music hits hard. Love it
So pure, so good 🙏
Sublime in every way. Jason’s guitar playin has improved, the other dude is legit and kexp is the best god damn channel on the tube.
Jason has always been a monster of a picker. Always.
@@n0-one0 exactly
@@n0-one0 I agree! Some of his best licks are when he was with Drive-by truckers..I love is slide playin'
Just what I needed❤️
So good. Thank you.
So, so good. His music will age like Springsteen, Rolling Stones and Nirvana.
Better
"so a Bruce, a rolling stone and Kurt walked into a bar... And Jason Isbell walked out.. Surprisingly😂"
… before his ashes hit the floor
@@lizderrough3312 Ayye nice tie-in, 10 points for Liz. 😊
Thanks for the live set . Awesome .
Missed the last 2 shows in DFW . Hopefully next time y'all make it thru this way again will be the live show I've want to see for a while now . Keep making great music .
I don't say this lightly- best American band going right now. Picked up the torch from Tom Petty and added a little more dirt.
What a great duo ,Amazing
Love it. My favourite musician on my favourite show. St. Peters Autograph holds a special place in my heart -- came out right after a friend of mine killed himself, and it really hits in the feels. Thanks for the beautiful performance.
Thank you - I needed this. I always need it :)
wow those harmonies
Thanks for the black midi videos a few years ago, favourite band
Lumineux thanks from France
Loved this! Thank you, Cheryl, KEXP, Jason and Sadler. P.S. Cheryl, your voice is amazing, too. Keep up the wonderful work!
Absolutely soulful, beautiful playing and lyrics. I'm such a fan.❤
R. E. Ms subtle brilliance really shines through when covered acoustically like this.. Great little set. Love Sadler and Jason playing together acoustic.. (if I feel brave I dust off my acoustic n play along and pull my best wknd "rockstar moves"😂)
I like you two acoustic. it is good stuff !
VERY NICE PERFORMANCE!!!
What a wordsmith!!!! Thank you !!
Love it! Somehow, "Tour of Duty" has become my summer-kickoff song, puts me in the frame of mind a few weeks early!
I cannot ❤ this enough!
Can't wait to see him here in Austin in a few days..
such great musicians
Good music. I'm a new fan. Saw the doc tonight.
So damn beautiful.
finally a regular studio session
jason is an angel
Can't wait to see them on my birthday at the brand new Orion Ampitheater in HSV, AL
Man that’s one of my favorite REM songs. So cool he covered it
Made my day.
I wish I could convince him to teach me how to flat pick. Such a great, great player.
Start with Travispicking
@@jasper_north sure. Easier said than done
goooooooosebumps !
for how you good are at talking, I can see Sadler in the back just ready to jam. What a beast.
The greatest.
Sadler Vaden is straight up Monster! He’s perfect.
New fav version of Only Children. I mean, damn.
The Lennon - McCartney of this point in time. Jason is a force and the dynamic between these 2 must be seen in person to be appreciated
Man they sound amazing 👏 better than the album version
FAB.U.LOUS. Rock n Roll on November...
0:49 ONLY CHILDREN
5:30 ST PETERS AUTOGRAPH
11:19 REM DRIVER 8
16:39 TOUR OF DUTY
The REM song is Driver 8
Ww
2 of the 3 best songs from Reunions. They play the other one a damn good bit more than “Only Children” and “St. Peters Autograph” on promos like these.
@@jasper_north I was definitely intoxicated. lol. I think I meant I hear more videos on YT containing Dreamcicle than the other 2 lovely ones I mentioned.
@@louieo.blevinsmusic4197 agree
Beautiful 👋🇦🇺
My mind is a little blown. Some of the best acoustic guitar sound I've enjoyed in a while. There is really something to be said for two players having their shit together and playing the same notes in their arpeggio's
you hear it all the way through, but when Jason starts that second song, and then Sadler starts in it becomes obvious
it's that kind of chorusing effect of two guitars playing the same thing about as close to perfectly identical as humanly possible. It's always going to be infinitesimal milliseconds off, and that's what gives it this sound.
Also of note: Not seeing any fancy microphones here. Credit should go to L.R. Baggs for Sadler's case. I can't see what kind of pickup Jason is using, but it sounds great.
I think Jason is a big fan of the K&K mini pick up.
@@jasper_north Hey thanks, good to know!
i onceplayed the isbell signature model here in a guitar shop, there was an lr baggs built in ...
@@rogerdavis4840 Thanks for the info, Roger
I was at the Chattanooga show that they mentioned and man... what a great show! The only thing that could have made it better is if Amanda Shires had been there with them, but yeah... both Sadler AND Jason can absolutely shred. Pretty sure I got COVID at the concert because I got sick and tested positive two days later, but it was worth it lol
Damn..that 2nd song floored me
About Amanda Shires’ friend, Neil Casal, who took his own life a few years ago. He was an excellent songwriter as well.
At.Peter’s autograph is ♥️
Best in the business
Thank GAWD for this station . Thank Gawd for the rest. Amen for Mark. Thanks.
The REM's cover is a masterpiece.
So underrated
Kid Fears with Brandi and Julien was my favorite on Georgia Blue.
Same here. An exceptional cover
Awesome sound treatment there. Too often radio stations just sound dry as a bone.
Jason and the band aren't wanna-be rapper rockers like many country singers these days. But I love hearing stories, without all the BS. Keep it up Jason and band!
