Happy New Year to all! - especially those who were around in 1982. Time flies but the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson never gets old.
We weren't allowed to watch carsom except on new years. Waiting on Dick Clark.
...time's fun when yer havin' flies...
I used to wake up and go to kitchen for drink of water and my ol man always had Carson on TV as he fell asleep on the couch.😁.. Happy NY pops i miss ya
I was 13 in 1982
@@armyvet8279 11. I swear things were so much better before the sandbox.
41 years ago is hard to believe, but then that I'm turning 65 in the new year is hard to believe too! I miss Johnny's Tonight Show, as the show has never been as good since his departure.
THANK YOU for bringing it back to life and have a great new year!
I’am with ya on that, can’t watch any TV except for old reruns like this. Pretty sad really.
I'm turning 65 in January. Medicare will be up and running tomorrow.

Met a love of my life Dec 8 1982.
Funny to think about that bit of time.
Johnny was always the best!
You were 21 and I was 4.
It's 5:30 p.m. on December 31st 2023 I'm watching Johnny Carson
Could be worse, like watching Taylor Swift and her nitwit fluff fans. Tina Turner was what Taylor will never be. 😊
This Tonight Show program from 1982 is far better than anything that is being broadcast tonight!
EXACTLY 😁👍🏻👍🏻
They haven’t been good for the last two decades at least.
I was a freshman in high school at the time this show aired, now I’m a blessed new grandmother to a darling grandson. If someone could tell me where the years went, I’d appreciate it. I still miss the Tonight Show, and that simpler, saner time. Happy New Year everyone.
Congratulations on your grandson! You have so much fun to look forward to in 2024!
Me too
abunchahooey,
I also was a freshman in high school in 1982. Congratulations on your new grand child. Now please forgive me, but I have to call my therapist. I am having a life crisis bc I have been made aware that we are of “Grandparent” age🤪
@@mananimal3644 😂 Thank you! Oh trust me, every time I kneel down in front of the ottoman to change his diaper and have to get back up, I’m reminded again of my age!
@@liz326522 thank you! Don’t tell my son, but I love my grandson more! Hahahahaha! Kidding. Sort of. 😃
I was a college boy then and a near-retiree now. Crazy. Johnny is aces in a tux. Thanks Johnny Carson channel for using the original show intros, too.
When New Years and late night television were anticipated.
Happy New Year everyone from Rome, Italy. Wish it was still 1982.
Me too, Art!
Goodbye 2023, Happy New Year 1983!
I was 17 years old and a huge fan of this - i was a high school senior looking forward to the future. Johnny Carson/the Tonight Show still holds uo. I miss Johnny and his top notch performances. ☮️💟
me tooooo
I was 22, and I am sure I was partying somewhere that late December day in 1982.
Happy New Year!
I was 25. 1982 was the best year of my life. Peace.
@danmarceau -- I was 21 and I definitely remember you at that party! You were lit!
I was 22, and was probably partying somewhere that night.
lol i didnt much do that
As always, thank you for the (timeless) uploads!
Rest in Peace Tina Turner.
God is theoretical, but if there's a heaven Tina is there. 😊
I graduated high school in 82. This is wild, he is so young.
Happy New Year to everybody,it's been 60 years but The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson has stood the test of time.
You are greatly missed Johnny ❤
On 01.01.2024, @exactly 00:30 AM, 40yrs down the line (& up the years!!)...Johny C still brings out a chuckle!! ...🎉🎉🎉 Happy New Year 2024 all Viewers!!
I was born 7 weeks before this episode 😂.
❤
18 years old when this aired. 41 years went by so fast. I miss those days.
Happy 1983 to everybody!
How the heck was this 40 years ago??? It seems like yesterday. 😊
Johnny Carson was my favorite bedtime show. my mom would come in and say yes, you need to go to sleep. You gotta get-app-and-go to school and I'm like but mom, I'm watching Johnny Carson. I love this man but he went off the air. I was so upset. Happy New Year, everybody.
You had school on New Year's Day?
@@bwtv147Ahaaa-hahaha 😂
I was a 20 yr old kid who just emigrated to Canada ....2024....RIP to all who have left us : Great Times
This was my parents favorite show and .mine. I feel blessed to still see it
Miss em. Happy Heavenly New Year to Johnny, Ed and Tommy and all staff and band members and the many guests doing the show amongst the angels and the clouds. ❤
Happy new year 🎇🎆🎊🎉💖
Thank you! Love Johnny!
What a show! The legend Tina Turner whom we sadly lost this year, before Politically Incorrect Bill Maher and Joey D Auria who played Bozo the Clown in Chicago during the 80s and 90s.
You noticed him? So few who weren't in TV ever knew what he looked like out of the makeup.
@@umpatas5468 I have seen him without the makeup on WGN programming in Chicago. Never knew he had performed outside of Chicago especially on Carson.
@@meijer78 until now I didn't either. I actually saw this episode as a kid. I knew the Arkansas Bozo as a kid. Can't remember who he was now. But that guy? Hell you would see him downtown and you would think him just an office worker if you weren't in broadcasting.
It's been great spending New Years with Johnny, Ed, Tina and the rest. Sure wish I could go back to 82'.
Forever watching!!!
Doc is the only one left. He’s 96.
Bill Maher.
Happy New Year to one and all
Happy New Year Everyone !!! 🎉🎈🎈🎈🎊🥳🎆
Happy New Year! watching this on CZcams and on my phone is certainly wonderful.
This is a wonderful New Years gift. I grew up watching The Tonight Show in the 70s in Canada's far north in the Yukon. The cable system was weird there in Whitehorse, Yukon and comprised of what was seen 1 week earlier in Vancouver and Seattle shown on tape exactly 1 week later. This was before the days of satellite. As a kid, I used to get up out of bed around 11:35pm and sneak out to the TV and turn it on to watch (once the tube TV warmed up). Years later as an adult, I spent a week lining up for free tickets at the NBC studios in Burbank to see the show taped at 5:30pm and then going back to my hotel room to watch it at 11:30. It was the highlight of each night. I'm glad I grew up with this and remember it like it was yesterday. It's not like today's 500 channel TV universe. Everyone who was awake at night watched Johnny back in those days. Thanks for the memories....you older folks will remember.
🎉Happy New Year 2024🎊🙃
I watched this when it first aired, and last night I put it on to watch it again. And promptly fell asleep. 😂😂😂 Not the first time I fell asleep watching Johnny Carson, but it's been a while. Thanks for the memories and Happy New Year!
I was 6 months old when this aired. Carson was the 🐐
A different era, and a much better one. Ed, Johnny, Doc. HAPPY NEW YEAR
I was 24 years old, 65 now...and back then it was in the 60's and warm for xmas time, I heated my old farm house with wood, cutting wood all through the winter when I was laid off. two years prior on 12/08/1980 John Lennon was shot and I heard it on the radio at said farm house.
I am 6 months old when this aired. I love Carson and this so much fun to watch. Happy New Years everyone. May 2024 be your best year.
Cool. I was four. I lied in past because I look between 25 and 30 about my age. For a long time said I was born in 1982. It's just four years.
I was 3 years old. Love watching
The one and only Tina Turner. No one even comes close.
41 years ago?!!!!!!!! I am old!!!! And my how time flies!!!!!
41 years is a very extremely long time ago.
Just think about being 34 years old and having 41 years left to live.
@@Charles8777-od4kj I was only 23 back then. 41 years into the future would have seemed like eternity!!!!
I was camping out on Orange Blvd on this night in 1982 for the Rose Parade…my first New Year’s in LA! It was freaking freezing!!!
Watching Johnny is sooooo refreshing after all of the other late nite crap that's on now. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Timeless ! Happy New Year 🎆 !🎈 🎆🥳🎉
Schön dass Johnny Carson die harte Arbeit von Tina Turner anerkannt hat. Beide waren großartig. Tina hatte so viel Energie.
Always watched his show!! Love the spontaneity of comedy!! Johnny was the best!!
Here's Johnny ❤
Where's Johnny this is when we had a country I don't know what we call it now so pray for us and have a good year
Feliz Ano Novo para todos. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
That Year 2002 skit timeline was 20 years after 1982 and is now 21 years after 2002. Where did the time go?
20 years is a long time ago.
Just think about being 44 and having 20 years left to live
It's basically my entire life so you know.
@@dariosandoval3608I am around that age. And I don't even want to be that age. Add health problems but before all that begin I was 37. I lost my kidneys and only about a year and a half ago got the transplant.
Hard to believe Johnny’s been gone almost 19 years 😢😢

There is no WE.
Pride flags ring a bell?
Yes
Tina's Awesome ❤
It never "trickled down" Johnny.
I was a senior in HS in 1982❤
I was a junior. Doesn’t seem so long ago.
Happy New Year, 2024. Can you believe it? I was 25 in '82, for whatever its worth. And now, I'm 66. Johnny was funny even when he bombed.
WHOA what a performance by Tina Turner!!!! Happy 2024 everyone!
For a second
Seeing that thumbnail
Call Mom "to don't forget 11:30"
I miss her and Johnny C.
Happy New Year everyone 🍀 Next year will hopefully be better.
I was 22 when this one aired (which made Bill Maher 27). I always loved watching Johnny and Ed through the years! Happy New Year!
Here in his final New Year's Eve goodbye to 1982, Johnny thanked Ed for 25 years together.
If they were working together in 1957, it wouldn't be on the Tonight Show, that was Jack Paar's gig; his first season.
They did the game show Who Do You Trust before The Tonight Show.
@@charlessigmonjr.6552 That's right. I have a vague kinescope footage memory of that show.
I think it was 35, 29 years on the Tonight Show and however many before that.
@@anonygent This program aired Dec. 31, 1982.
@@AnnieVanAuken I just got to the part where he said it was 25 years. I thought you were referring to their last show in 1991.
Sooo miss Johnny!
johnie made it normal lots of laughs
This is great! When the tonight show was at its peak! I was 27. Happy New Year, everyone. May the New Year bring happiness and joy 😊.
I remember watching this episode on new years when it was live. Miss Johnnie's humor
Happy New Year 2024
That was enjoyable... Thanks! Never saw that episode before. 😃
Bill Mahar - "I kid because I love!" remember when that was a catchphrase? I think Richard Belzer used it a lot.
Happy new year!!; love watching tina
Stay classy San Diego 🎉 Happy New year's !
The routine about going over to the model of Times Square was partly down to viewers knowing in previous years when they did this, Johnny's New Year's Eve show wasn't live, and when they did "go over" to Times Square it was never live. This was a nice way of being truthful on this bit of the show I believe.
Those were the days. Bill Maher killed it!
31:43 They should have kept the mike off. 🐵
So cool to see ayoung Bill Maher
Good looking tux.
I was 22, and oh boy and girls ❤
Fantastic show! Tina Turner tore up that stage! 👩🏾🎤
More than 1/2 of America would have to look up what he jokes about to get it.
Appreciate you uploading and sharing with us 😊.
I’m surprised these are in mono, wasn’t the tonight show broadcast in stereo starting 1981 ?
Thanks for posting. Ronald Regan was actually still alive that year. It's interesting to see what actually happened in 2002. No more Donahue show by then. Liberace was dead.
Hey, thanks!!
1977 here and keep it going!
I was 3 months and a week when this aired
That guy 100% burnt his hand.
I bet anything that Tina Turner was out of there into a waiting limousine to a private airport and off to Vegas for a midnight show.
🎉 I was around in 82
It was a tough year for Americans
Was it? Why?
1982....I was 19...
funny how i'm only ten minutes of the time of the video. and yep i was fourteen the first time this was on. lol thanks.
I think this just confirms that Tina Turner was the sexiest woman to ever rock a stage, and will never be equalled.
Bill Maher? Cool
This is what we had.. the best! Not the dimwitted host seen on late night these days... Johnny was a true people's enterainer.
Tina Turner, Class Act.
a mortuary across from nbc. perfect.
TT , what a legend!🥲
Morning in America.
Wow Tina was just as rockin as she was HOT!
Never realized Beyonce rips her off to the T
