The 340 is the real son of both the 707 and the DC-8, except it's way safer…
Don't get me wrong, by weird I mean unusual. It's actually one of my favorite aircraft type !

Flew this aircraft many years ago from LAX to Munich. Loved it.
Just fantastic that Lufthansa have continued to operate the A346 certainly in my view the 2nd best looking passenger aircraft of all time (apart from Concorde that has to be number one) love the configuration with the lower deck toilets. Be a sad day when all the 340s have been withdrawn from service, unfortunately for Airbus the type wasn't a great success, it deserved to do better.
The 346 is a mighty jet, Airbus's response to the latest Boeing's 747-400.
It was in in moment until Etops extended the wasy twin could travel. When that happens, this types of planes began to dominate the market thank to( we all know). If it was made, let say for example like 3 years before the 747 biggin to fly, it would definitely could have sell better.
Saw one of these flying over after leaving Logan couple days ago! Really is a treat to see these gorgeous planes in use!

I flew with Thomas Cook on an A330-200 from San Francisco to Manchester and back in 2018 and those planes had the unique (and extremely cool) downstairs lavatories. Unfortunately TC no longer exists 💔
I love the A340-600. It's the best looking widebody in service. Long and sleek with an elegance that sets it apart from the 747, A380 and the many dual-engined widebodies. The A380 is squat and downright ugly compared to the A340-600.
Totally agree on looks of the A340, but the 380 is just incredible to fly on, had the opportunity to fly BA 380 Business class a few months ago, just amazing.

The A330 and A340 are the only sensible choice for flying long haul in Economy Class. The outer seats with the two configuration means that couples don't have to crawl over the person in the third seat as on the A350 and 777/787. LCCs not included.
yeah i don't get why a lot of people prefer 3-3-3... a common argument is that 3-3-3 makes the cabin feel more spacious but i don't see how... 2-4-2 is literally the most conveniant because everyone only ever have to cross 1 seat at most to get to the aisle... and your aforementioned arguments as well ofc... one configuration i really fancy but only exist with japan airlines and ANA to my knowledge ist the 2-4-3 layout... they use it on some of their 777 (which is generous) but you could obviously apply that to normal 9 abreast planes as well... this really gives you a lot of choices to configure your seating...
@@kleeblattchen38 eh, if you are a family of 3, that were the point goes. So no, is not that 3-3-3 is preferred by everyone, but that there are circumstances that change things.
What a lovely flight experience! The highlight of this plane, to me, is the downstair lavatory :) It actually was in a good condition.

Flew aboard 340-600 from Charlotte to Frankfurt in 2014. Was a very pleasant flight the restrooms down stairs is a clever use of space. Not to mention what a beautiful machine it was/is.
If i could and would fly the a340 again! Miss those birds!

Wonderful flight( as always I like the lower deck lavatories). What is a bit sad is that LH doesn’t serve a full breakfast meal anymore🥺
Speaking of breakfast, it's still less disgusting than the savory pastries (I don't even know what they're called) that some North American airlines serve as a pre-arrival snack. A simple croissant would be much better.

The A340-600 was the longest passenger plane until the 747-8i which is about 5ft longer.

Flew an A346 FRA-YYZ several years ago with LH. Loved the plane. However, the food portions were so small my nephew and I broke into his Dad's chocolate bar, we were so hungry.

Compared to the MD-11 or the DC-10, I’ve always felt the TriStar was better looking in how they designed the tail and third engine placement. Plus it’s just an amazing piece of engineering and innovation.
And yes….those RR engines. 🙂

Thank you for sharing your trip here to Europe. That was really nice to walk up to a model of the 747 and then look outside at a 747!! I laughed! LOL..Hahahaha, so nice!!And yes, you know as well, we have to get away to the lounge. Even if you are flying in Economy Class, you have to go to the lounge and sit down to have some nice food with champagne, great wine or great drink with some "top shelf" liquor.
I take it that flight was full? Well, I hope that person next to did not want to talk to you all the time!!

When you took your video of the aircraft as you left, it looks like the additional jet bridge in the front section was for First Class and the front section of Business Class there to depart off of the aircraft. Again, thank you for sharing your trip!
@@MillionMilesMarc Yes, many of us aviation people miss the 747 on the passenger side as a whole usage. I know only a few companies use them still and the most are used for cargo these days. But flying is getting back to being good in general.

I believe Lufthansa are returning 380s in 2023, I just hope they continue to fly the 340 600

Flew on this exact aircraft from JFK-MUC on June 11th and the same lavatory that was INOP in this video was INOP for my flight. When do you fly?

@@r12004rewy No problem with a A380, it's still a quad jet and the latest ones are pretty new. Can't wait to fly a Singapore one next October between Frankfurt and Changi.
I am surprised they haven't upgraded the business class cabin. Looks awful, old and no privacy
I'm so happy I can sit in my comfortably easy chair and watch other poor wretches deal with the misery of air travel. Flying these days sucks unless you're wealthy and can fly first class or you have your own private jet. The unwashed mobs get herded like cattle on fully booked flights.
