    I’ve had the CR01 running on brushless for a few years. Upgraded to hardened steel locked diffs and drive shafts. Broke the wheel cup/axel. So I upgraded to herded steel wheel cups. A couple years later, running big JConcepts 2.2 monster truck mid tires and popping wheelies… twisted the end off the bevel gear. So, I think you don’t have to worry about the transmission. It’s solid. Just had my transmission open installing a new motor the other day. Almost zero wear. I’m impressed.

    I would invest in either some tire glue or beadlocks. when you got hung up near the other trucks, the wheel was spinning , but the tire was bound up.

    Can't wait to start the build - I have a few hop-ups already, just waiting for bearing kit to arrive from the UK 😎

    Very good job. I also like to have a rock socker. Exploring the internet about this car, the opinions differ a lot. After your video I guess I will buy one, sometimes. 👍😎

      Yeah people either love or hate the CR01. Most people wouldn't pick this truck because it's expensive, doesn't perform very well for what it is, and has a pretty complicated design for no particular reason. For a Tamiya fan though, I think it's a truck that you should definitely try if you can afford it. It's a very cool truck for sure, even if it can't hold up to modern crawlers.

    Hi, great video. I'm waiting for my new CR-01 Unimog to get here. Looking for upgrades for it. Wanted to ask you about tires. So I'm on e-bay looking at tires. How do you tell which tires are the softer compound when looking at them on line?

    Nice truck really like it.

  • @_blood_moon_proto_1500

    i think the only upgrades i wanna make would be the shocks and tyres, im looking rc4wd way in tyres, anyone know the better 2.2 rc4wd tyres? I.E. which ones are good for mixed terrain trail running?

    Did you notis that the tire is rotating free on the wheel, the back right one.

    I have the Cliff Crawler tires on my Bronco, much better than those Vise Crawlers. I have Gmade Big Horn XLs waiting for rims. CR-01 is an åsome rig! :) Get the HW1080 and the performance is way better.

    I like the rock socker for fun,but for real trail and rock crawling and for that money,you better by Axial scx10 2 the godfather brand that started the crawler industry around the world

  • @Triggered-RC
    @Triggered-RC Před 2 lety +1

    Watching the running footage. I think you should get some RC4WD crawler tires. You’ll be surprised at how much better your truck performs. The Tamiya tires are way too hard.

    • @Triggered-RC
      @Triggered-RC Před 2 lety

      Also can see your tires spinning in their rims…

    • @chibiskyrc
      @chibiskyrc  Před 2 lety

      @@Triggered-RC I have RC4WD tires for my other crawlers, but for this one I wanted to keep it as Tamiya as possible. The tires on it are hop up tires that are much much softer than the stock tires and work very well. As for the wheels spinning in the wheels, that only happens when the truck is badly bound up and I don't mind it as I see it as a substitute for the truck lacking a slipper clutch.

      @Triggered-RC Před 2 lety

      @@chibiskyrc I have snapped drive shafts and bevel gears, but the transmission is flawless. I don’t think you have to worry much about it.

    Do you have a part number on your Barrel springs? Can't seem to find any

      Also what size do we need on the shocks? I noticed the lengths they sell are 80 or 90mm?

    I got the Tamiya aluminum dampers for my CR01 truck. Thoughts?

    • @KenyukoIMAdventure
      @KenyukoIMAdventure Před 2 lety

      I am looking for the, “barrel springs for the CR-01 Tamiya here in Japan. They are, so hard to find here. I am also, looking for good dampers too. I think the aluminum is good, but are they solid in better performing? I want to race my Tamiya CR-01 and crawl as well, I have two set ups for it. One set up is.., a racing motor the Tamiya “super stock TZ”, with a 80 ESC, the other is a CR-tuned crawler motor with a 320 ESC for lights and other feature on it. I love this model CR-01 by Tamiya, in my opinion, it’s very versatile.

      @@KenyukoIMAdventure To be honest with you I have only driven my CR01 a couple of times. So, I can not tell you how good the Tamiya dampers are. I do have other Tamiya dampers for other kits and they are good. I have other crawler trucks that I drive. Maybe I should make some videos comparing my different crawler trucks?

      @@alfredyost7972 @KenyukoIM Adventure The stock shocks for the CR01 are unfortunately not very good. They work fine but they leak BADLY. I have tried various other shocks but the GMade shocks seem to work best in my experience.

    • @chibiskyrc
      @chibiskyrc  Před 2 lety

      I do like the Tamiya aluminum dampers but they are very pricey from what I've seen, so I haven't personally tried them on the CR01. I think the Gmade shocks aren't cheap either but I had them laying around from a different kit.
