- I turn a room into a secret room by building a shelf to obscure the entrance. Inspired by movies such as Harry Potter and Young Frankenstein, and videos on CZcams like "I like to make stuff" and "Liam Thompson" and others. It is not completely hidden, but the concept holds up, and I hope it inspires you to build your ideas :)

Should have made the bookcase slightly bigger so it would cover the door frame. That's what I would have done anyway...

Well done! This was a very simple and straightforward approach. It works surprisingly well. Something that would make it seem more like just a bookcase would be another piece alongside it, but in this case that would be difficult to pull off. As always, I'm amazed at your ingenuity and creativity. It was a bit of a wait for this video, but it was worth it!

I have been contemplating a murphy door for a long time. This video is the perfect starting for that process. I understand you are apparently renting, so you can't modify the trim but that Idea is a natural. Thank you for the ingenious door idea. how the extended shelves are going to clear the door jam swinging inward?
I do think that additional trim on the bookcase would help conceal it as a door. So would another closet. All you need is a mansion and a few nails!

I think it is funny because removing those three pieces of trim and hiding them in the closet to reattach later is a much simpler move than painting the trim only to have to paint it again later.
i know you said you cant take off the trim which means you probably cant switch the way the door opens but if you could flip the door so it opens from the left side, this could work really well.
My only improvement would have been to use Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets 😁

How do you get so good at this sorta stuff ? I'd love to get into this DIY type stuff myself working with wood and metal .. any advice ?
Start with something simple and small. My first one was a coffee table. Each time you make something, you’ll learn a few new things, and before long you realize there isn’t much that you can’t build :) the feeling is very freeing. Also, if something seems complex, build a rough model of it from popsicle sticks or software. Or just draw it. Hope this helps! And don’t forget to share your creation with the world :)

Door dimensions are 30x80" so height wise 6'6 and you seem 4" shorter than that, so I'd say 6'1 to 6'2" at the very least 😉
Please occasionally create a more sophisticated one using a password or fingerprint or eye password
