They don’t lower the bed the rr is on. They take off the rails and put in pavement. Or gravel. I’ve ridden these trails all over the country. They are wonderful. It enhances the community and helps get people out and about moving and enjoying the outdoors. I hope they get it built.

I have a public access state park trail 40 feet from my backyard property line that I personally use on a daily basis.
I consider it an asset to my property value, and a quality of life feature.
    I've never had
any issues in the 18 years that I've lived next to the trail. I wonder how many people that are against this trail are just lazy, sedentary, grumpy couch potato NIMBY's?

The first guy has a knee jerk reaction to a project he hasn't fully analyzed. We have had our local rail system turned into a walk and bike path, and it's been so successful, other nearby communities are fast tracking their own systems. The rail beds are raised, so flood concerns are mitigated. The increase in foot and bike traffic actually decreased crime, as there are more eyes on backyards. The amount of money from tourism after we cut the ribbon on ours is bonkers. If you just leave the rail disused, your town(county?) is just wasting a wonderful opportunity. I used to be a naysayer, but after I've seen the results, I've changed my tune.

There's no knee jerk reaction. The landowners, railroad, and as of yesterday local railroad authority don't want this. The government is working outside of the will of all of those groups to take the land via eminent domain. No one is coming to a city with a crime rate worse than 89.4 percent of other US cities to ride a bike, and excuse us if we don't want our land stolen with the promise that maybe in several years we'll make enough money in revenue to pay for cops when our mayor is currently being sued by our local police for refusing to pay them.
Riding bikes is a privilege. Residents on the ground have actual needs.
