Wow! I have been watching this family for a bit of time now. This is the first time I have ever seen Nene literally stalk Shabani I want to be close to him. Most of the time she wants to be far far away from him! Got to love Nene with her lower lip always hanging. I guess the old girl needs it every now and then? Well played Nene!!!
Raquel flowers in the Gorilla world the ladies pursue the silverback. In all the videos of this group Nene always comes to him purses her lips and stares that is how they let the males know they will be receptive to mating.

I love how in the Gorilla world the male is almost 3 times the females size yet its up to the females to pick the mate and say when they are ready or willing to mate. I love how Shabani runs around and flexs for Nene showing off for her.

Poor Shabani, you can run but you can't hide. Queen Nene is relentless in her quest to get her man. I don't understand why other silverbacks can have lots of wives and mate with them all yet Shabani only mates with Nene because she is the alpha female. Ai does flirt with Shabani and they are friendly with each other. Perhaps if they had more time alone away from Nene's watching eyes.

Can anybody who knows gorilla behaviour explain why Shabani mates with granny nene and not the vibrant young female Ai? Seems strange but I'm not educated in gorilla habits really.
I think Nene is the alpha female of the group,also it's the female gorilla that starts the mating game...giving the silverback hints and all.
I'm not an expert tho,so I don't know if it's the real reason Shabani doesn't mate with Ai.
