BTW.. i realized when editing, that i COMPLETELY FORGOT to clean the commutator on that motor rotor assembly! a lil bit of sand paper would probably fix the 'not driving straight' issue.. conducting electricity and stuff...anyways.. yea.. ill get to it later.. this is 'murica after all.. LOL
welcome back Dan. I contact the magic mobility for dissemble tires from the rims, but they don't sell it for separately. so, I bought extended wench and I did it. anyway, 9mph wheelchair, I am jealous.
cool! glad ya got it taken care of!!!
@@TotallyNormal- what you do to make Bounder faster???
Very Nice work Dan. As long as I'm not wiping and I'm just wicking up fluids, I find paper napkins effective and inexpensive... Then I use a rag for the final wipe.
Dan, Just an FYI: you probably could have fit 3 of those tubes of lithium grease into the gear box. I'm not good at guessing viscosity, but those gear boxes probably just use general purpose grease and the gearbox probably has 4 to 6 oz of grease in it. Im guessing based on opening a gearbox a few years back. There is no oil. Thats just run off from the grease after it sits or heats up for a period of time.
One thing I know for sure. The grease in that gear box is NOT as thick as wheel bearing grease. ...I'd say, slightly heavier than the grease for automotive ball joints and such. Of course, I'm sure you know that, thick grease on a cold day would be bad news.
yea... thanks for the advice lol its gonna have to come back apart to sand and clean the commutator anyways .. ill stuff some more in there when it happens :^)
Long screws gonna give you tough time man.. just two days back i repaired my wheelchair motor and i change the armature of my left side motor.. now all good Thanks to God.. watching your video from Dubai... Good job dear..
Thank you for this video. I am going to repair my wheelchair that keeps wanting to turn left on me!!, I will be tearing it down today, and doing the repair, instead of just replacing it!!
I found you by searching for power chair stuff. I’m new to the world of using power chairs. I was a mechanic my whole life and now want to learn more about my mobility equipment so as example, maybe getting my merit scoter above the dizzying speed of eight miles per hour to maybe twelve? What I watched you do on your video is exactly what I have done in my past for friends and neighbors but now find myself in that same feed bag. I’m looking forward to viewing more of your vids to learn more about these elusive machines. Again, thank you for sharing your skills with the rest of us. I can relate to your blocked bridge scenario as too many times I was told certain places were handy cap accessible but truly were not. Through savings of my own, I purchased five machines that I use to get around in. As long as parts can be gotten, I’ll have no problems keeping my machines running in good health.
welcome to the club! LOL as far as going faster.. usually that involves feeding more voltage to the motors, or getting different gearboxes.. neither of which is very easy... you'd need some kinda aftermarket controller and the ability to program it etc.. not something id probably attempt.. there are a few chairs out there with high speed motors on them.. sometimes ya can retro fit them onto other chairs BUT the control systems dont usually play nice with different motors. the R-Net control system is the most versatile for swapping on different motors etc.. youll need an R-Net USB programming dongle to make the changes.. but that system can power pretty much anything ya want! ive been working on getting service manuals and other guides all in one spot.. www.brokenwheelchairs.com its a work in progress.. but am adding new things weekly :^)
but if ya want something fast - the bounder by 21st century scientific, or the OLD quantum 6000z chairs(with the high speed motor option) are the 2 best off-the-shelf options!
Thank you so much for this video. Working on a chair that sat for 8 years, controller is good, new batteries but oil everywhere. I hope this will fix it. I found motors use for $175 but it may just need seals and cleaning.
Make sure ya clean the brush housings and the commutator with fine grit sandpaper too!
Congrats for this fantastic channel.
Let me convey my sincere gratitude for your kindness by sharing your overwhelming knowledge.
I am helping my brother with the maintenance of his chair. One of the engines had a seal that was not working properly, hence, grease everywhere!
I have followed your amazing master class in this video completing every single step. Engine looks clean and almost ready.
I have found the same seal in a local store.
Maybe you would be kind enough to give me a few tips on how to remove de endless screw that goes inside the seal. In you tutorial it appeared to be removed effortless. I do not want to use a bearing extractor to avoid damaging the gear.
Thank you very much indeed.
All the very best from two enthusiastic fans that follow you in Spain!
Thanks for the info! Liked and subscribed.
Totally understand. Totally apreciated. Totally cool 😎. Totally worth watching. Totally normal
I've worked with all types of gearboxes all my life these things need a gearbox that contains oil like a small Honda at least. Instead of having gears packed full of grease like a riding lawn mower it would last longer
Thats what almost happened to my quantum 6000z the seals went bad on me got my motors changed just in time
i went to a going away party one time, and they had a bunch of streamers etc, and they all got caught up in my chairs motors.. didnt realize it till i got up the next morning and saw grease stains all over my carpet! fun stuff! i just shrugged and thought "oh well i guess" lol
Top Dan.
Wow that was 40 minutes!! Didn't even seem like it
I've a 2004 power chair started leaking oil from the wheel and now under it. And now making grinning noises. I watch your video on advice but as a beginner you didn't show how to remove the wheels or anything. Here is what mine looks like so do you have any idea what it could be and where do I get the parts from? Can't upload photos not allowed.
Hey the adapter plate that fits the shaft coming out gearbox. Where can you get that adapter? This something tgat could get me bigger tires on my Old Jazzy HD.
Most of the motors have different sized output shafts.. eBay is your friend with these :-) otherwise ya have to get something custom machined. These things usually aren’t off the shelf industrial items unfortunately:-/
I bought a pair of SGS0220 24V DC used wheelchair motors to use in RC mobility project and made a test with a 24V 60 Ah battery with no load and no wheel mounted.
They seems to turn normally when powered.
This model is rated up to 9.4 Amps and the problem is that both of the motors consume more than 30 Amps and the current can rise up to 50 Amps with no load.
Can you please help me to understand what is happening and how to fix this issue?
Ive got two of the quantum motors in your video and when i opened them up the actual electric motor part not the gears was full of black rubbery substance that i believe that was the gear grease from the gears that had spilled over from the gear box because of a bad oring between the two and whoever was using it probably just kept using the power wheelchair not knowing that there was anything wrong and all the grease was gone from the gear side and the electric motor like i said was completely full in the encasement !!! Believe it or not everything can be rebuilt and there was no damage !!! My question to you is do you know what oring or rubber gasket that might of gone bad and where does it go and where can i get a couple of them at ?? Also i noticed that one of the rubber gasket between the electric motor and gear box where the shaft slides in, the gasket had a metal round spring that fell out and i am assuming that the spring is what helps keep the rubber gasket in place or is there another rubber gasket or oring that helps keep the grease from coming through the little area where the shaft slides through ?? I hope i havent confused you just looking for some answers !!!! Thank you or your time and consideration !!! James T.
yea - on mine i was able to get a part number off of the remaining bits of the seal and got a replacement locally - they're a spring reinforced lip seal typically... as far as finding parts lists.. havent had much luck with that.. worse case scenario ya can get measurements of the shaft, and the seat inside the housing and lookup the seals in a catalog.. but its REALLY hard to get info from manufacturers about any of this stuff.. Portland has a lot of good suppliers, and i got lucky being able to read the numbers on the shredded bits of seal..
ANY CHANCE OF SEEING HOW TO CHANGE CASTERS ON QUANTUM 6000Z OR JAZZY 600ES?
That is one gnarly sounding motor! Definitely clean the commutator and the brushes will wear in a bit to quiet down for you. If you were told you were going to have to choose, would you choose a rear, mid, or front drive chair? We're going in for seating eval after 10 years in a mid and I'm thinking my wife would do well in a front because she keeps turning too soon. I thought the front drive would help that.
im a fan of front wheel drive for indoors for sure!
Hi, I came across you while trying to find out why my Jazzy chair has a rough sound on the left side I think when I'm driving it. It gets louder the faster I go. I loved watching your video Even though I don't know much about all this stuff. At 78 it's too late for me to learn. Someone gave me a chair cuz I'm in a lot of pain now and I did fix a few things on on it. I'm in awe of you guys who know how to fix this stuff. I fool around with things but don't really know anything. LOL. Sitting here alone during Covid I enjoyed watching it. Have a good one. God bless.
Hey I have a Quantum edge 2.0 in I keep getting a error says my motor 2 Current measurements out of rage what’s that plz
Love your videos. I'm trying to repair a Jazzy Select 14xl chair for my mother. The gearbox input shaft seal is gone, but has an entirely different seal setup than the Electrocraft gearbox you repaired. It seems to be a 3-point contact labyrinth face seal and can't seem to find one anywhere. Can anyone help with a manufacturer or part #?
are there any numbers or markings left on the seal? or is it completely toasted?
@@TotallyNormal- Not thing. No #'rs no letters.
this is when id head to ebay and troll around.. try and find similar motors, and see if there's any photos of the motors that could help figure out what they're supposed to look like.. or could always try and take apart the other motor on the chair and get some info from that seal.... in portland we've got some specialty bearing companies - and ive been able to bring things in, plonk them down on the bench - and they figure out what parts are needed!
@@TotallyNormal- I"ve done that already. Took apart the "good' gearbox and the seal is the same as the 1st, only not damaged. No No's, markings of any kind. Based on the fact that I've not been able to find a single Parts list for one of these gearbox's, I'd say the Mobility folks are determined to make us buy shiny new motor for $500.
yeaaa... ive never come across any parts lists or schematics for anything.. the big manufacturers commission motors from vendors with exclusivity, and NOBODY gets any paperwork. in the UK for example they DO have a lot of parts available for repair.. but i haven't had any luck locating any vendors willing to talk..
The outside casing where the brushes are on your jazzy interesting that it only has 2 off here in Australia all ours have 4 brush’s. Also you’ve got the bouncer hooking at 10 mph how you liking it so far ?
yea theres 2 and 4 pole motors here too :^) just depends on how cheep the chair is! lol
oh - and the bounder is great! glad to finally have a chair that can take some abuse!
@@TotallyNormal- here they are totally black steel for the 2 poleand our 4 pole are with the alloy
My seat is off the frame a little the bolts are off how can I fix it jazzy 1103
Just had to get parts replaced on my Edge 2 because quantum forgot to add gas dampers to my chair and didn't realize it for a year and a half lol. Caused some pieces to get bent.
mmm competence LOL
I just saw your video for first time. I am going to ask an unrelated question. Can you use a power generator power pack to charge a chair in case of an emergency where fuel and electric are unavailable (gas generator?)
yup! check this out lol czcams.com/video/pEWmF1f-W-g/video.html
As long as the generator Puts out the right voltage. And will carry the amps of the charger go for it there's a lot of ways to charge batteries I've been in this industry very many years
my niece wheelchair motor burn 3 times in few months do you know why thanks Thomas
Hi do u no what why my mobility scooter slow down when going up a hill and start flashing
Sorry forget to say horizon Aztec scooter
Put faraday cages on vital components.
Jazzy 600 es Unable to Engage Freewheel Mode
I Believe There Is A Major undocumented, unseen and overlooked benifit for your motor cable swap Procedure, Correct me if I
am wrong, but would this not cause the gearbox to Wear on the reverse side of the gear teeth, since there is no reverse gear,
Something Akin to Rotating tires on your car? thereby possibly double the transmission life.
Uhhhh.... did I miss a part where the gearbox gets refilled with oil?
I jammed some white lithium grease in there :-)
Mobile Wheelchair Service$$$ Lol. Might Have a good deal on used h frame bounder with 15mph gears/motors.ill send u info,

Hello. I desperately need your assistance
@TotallyNormal- is there anyway we can get ahold of you. Email, text, phone, face time? If so please I’d love to talk to be able to talk to you to ask a question.
there are contact options in the video description :^)
@@TotallyNormal- hey there finally found the part number. Pj26059r should be two cupped washers as well to house it! I found it on eBay just the part alone. Any where to get these parts new? Straight from companies?
