  • This is our first travel vlog together. We went to explore Fairbanks, Alaska during the winter. The main reason we came here was because of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), which we saw several times! In addition, there are tons of other fun activities that can be done in Fairbanks including riding a snowmobile, dog sledding, ice fishing, dipping into a hot spring, and lots more! Alaska truly is a paradise! Will definitely come back here!

    I used to live in Fairbanks, this video sort of makes me miss it. It is definitely a unique city. I don’t miss the below zero temperatures and long dark mid-winters. I say mid-winter because at least October through November early December you get a decent amount of sunlight for outdoor stuff like glacier hiking and snow-machining, then again in March through April. But late December through February you only get maybe three hours or less of sun if you’re lucky. I do miss the views outside or Fairbanks in the mountains and Anchorage. Plus it is definitely quite something being at an outdoor restaurant, concert, bar at 1100 at night and it’ll be straight sunshine. So if you’re lucky enough to have days off in the middle of the week, it makes for some great long summer hiking and swimming.

    Need more information about the dates you visited and cost of the tour and reservation of all these activities and one more important thing to know that should we have a known person over there for all these or just go our-self?

      I honestly didn't know so many people wanted to visit there lol. When I lived there in the early 2000's it felt like going back into the 80's, but in a very remote town with incredible wilderness and skies and a lot of drunks.

    Ice Road Truckers were never filmed on the Alaskan Highway. "ALCAN Highway." The Dalton Highway goes to Prudhoe Bay. The ALCAN Highway goes south through Canada. Two very Different highways.

    • @midnyteblues
      @midnyteblues Před 3 lety +1

      I used to live there. Just moved away in February 2021. The Cookie Jar is delicious!!! Most of the “sit in” food places in Fairbanks are “mom and pop shops” except for your typical fast food like McDonalds, BK, Wendy’s, Papa Johns, etc.

    Nice video! Very informative. Are there vegetarian food options?

    • @midnyteblues
      @midnyteblues Před 3 lety

      Yes, Fairbanks is definitely a meat, seafood and potatoes town, but they do have mom and pop places that have vegetarian options, plus if you live here you can cook what you want. Now with it being so remote, grocery stores sometimes won’t have all the things people are used to, but with better technology and faster shipping, that’s starting to change quite a bit. They’re shipping a lot of things from Seattle as well. Plus there’s always Amazon and Ebay. They recently got a Costco and that was a major deal. Hope this helps. P.S. I used to live there recently so that’s how I know.

    @chiemibernuy5184 Před 3 lety +2

    How much was everything ?

    • @midnyteblues
      @midnyteblues Před 3 lety +3

      Hundreds of dollars. Aurora tours can be several hundred depending upon if you rent camera equipment. Sledding isn’t too bad, it depends on the company. Anywhere from $25 to $300 depending on what all is involved, some will stop for food and other things, plus it depends on if it’s in Fairbanks or Anchorage. Snow-machining can be about $100 per person depending on the company and the trails you go on. Fairbanks has this “monopoly” type of attitude since it’s in the middle of Alaska and Anchorage is 400 miles away and a grueling drive through bumpy roads that are damaged by the constant freezing and thawing with harsh winter snow. So most places are like “where else are you gonna go”. It’s definitely not cheap to live there. Groceries itself are ridiculous. A family of four with each getting a large combo meal at McDonalds will easily spend $50. A large BigMac combo plus tax alone is about $12-$15. They have to have EVERYTHING either flown or trucked in from “the lower 48” because only certain crops can grow in that climate. Not long enough growing season. Only two months really. Not enough to sustain life for everyone. A lot of people are self sufficient and grow what they can when they can in their own personal garden.
