- There were tense moments at the campus of Cooper Union in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon. Students who are pro-Israel say they felt unsafe as pro-Palestinian demonstrators banged and chanted outside the library they were studying in. Planned protest or not the students were acting aggressively. the college’s president’s statement that this was planned and she didn’t feel threatened is so beyond infuriating because it’s invalidating the Jewish students who feel threatened and intimidated who pay to attend their private university. I am Jewish and I can tell you this breaks my heart to continue to see these demonstrations that are not pro Palestine - they are using that as an excuse to try to justify their disgusting displays of anti semitism. These students who are protesting have every right to free speech BUT no right to hate speech. No right to intimidate Jewish students in a library on campus and the school wants to act like these Jewish students chose to be at the library during that time so it’s their fault? Or that it was “only 20 minutes” which is making it seem like these students were blowing something out of proportion. Nahhhh fuck that. Many believe these actions to be immoral. Those who support the Israeli government's actions are aware that their morality is under public scrutiny. Not a comfortable position to be in. That is not at all clear. To me it looks like pro-Palestine demonstrations are much more numerous and sizeable than pro-State of Israel ones. It's obvious that corporate news outlets are doing all they can to minimize and marginalize the voices of those who correctly identify Israel as a brutal and evil power, though.
