Thanks for giving love to Saiki. Her vocals are truly wonderful - she does things with her voice, at break-neck speed, that other vocalists cannot do. And she always hits her notes exactly - perfection. The joy they have playing together is something I've never seen with any other band. They play with joy, and their joy fills me with joy.

12:05 - It's camaraderie but also accountability. The reason you see Kanami sit down and stare at Miku is because Miku screwed up her lyrics during a previous performance. So Kanami is trolling her ensuring Miku doesn't mess up again. Miku wasn't expecting it and looks at Kanami like "this isn't part of the plan".
You also notice at 13:05, Misa (bassist) and Saiki (lead vocal) are staring at the drummer (Akane), trying to get her to mess up her drumming (which didn't work and Akane responds with a silly kissy face). This is called "Hengao" (Japanese for "funny face"). These ladies basically mess with each other but they're all so talented that they do it just for fun.

If you're going to keep stopping and rewinding Band-Maid, especially on guitar and drum solos, then I'm going to have to say...I'm subscribed! We never mind seeing anything the maids do over and over again! In Domination: at 4:32 - MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist, main lyricist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. At 5:30 - MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond, which is a skill in itself. At 7:55 - a brief glimpse of Obi-Wan Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern on that lead guitar - pure class. THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond.

I think the last verse (coda?) of DOMINATION is the very best part of that great song. Most reactors don’t catch that. It’s good to see you are such a careful listener.
KOBATO (a former J-Pop singer) intended to be the lead vocalist when she formed the band, but decided to recruit a front woman with more powerful voice to realize a “twin vocal concept.” In addition to harmonizing beautifully with SAIKI, she trades off singing lines in many songs, and she sings solo in others (e.g., SAYONAKIDORI). KOBATO (“Small Pigeon”) has a “Hippie Pop” solo side project called CLUPPO (“KURUPPO” is the sound a Japanese pigeon makes.)

Saiki is like a dominatrix, she demands that the crowd respond to her commands. Saiki and MISA are the ones dressed in Gothic. Actually when the group began they all wore similar outfits, then as time went on Saiki and MISA turned Gothic on us. Most often MISA and Kanami are doing their solos at the same time. As usual Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!

Misa likes a bit (more than a bit) of Glissando. When MIku does her vocal solo bit, Kanami is sitting there to keep an eye on her as Miku had previously screwed it up (forgot the lyrics), as you can see Kanami nods her appreciation at the end when she gets it right. I've seen one video of this song where Kanami, Saiki and Misa all gathered round Miku for this part just to add a bit more encouragement / pressure lol

Miku (Band Founder, Rhythm Guitarist, Backup vocals and main lyricist) has several songs where she sings lead, typically on most albums there is a Miku song, early albums had a few more. These songs are often played at concerts to give Saiki the lead singer a break for a bit. Off the top of my head and I know I'm missing some there are these songs. Time, Price of Pride, Rock in Me and Sayonakidori

You should react to the live version of Play from the same concert as these two videos. In fact it is the song performed immediately before Domination. And at the beginning of Domination you can hear the final fading notes of Play, as the Ladies go back to their pedal boards to reset for Domination. Time between the two songs, about 6-8 seconds. That is just how fast and hard these Ladies perform. Hard Driving, in your face, to give the audience the best experience as possible.
And during Miku's verse, the previous concert, which was the day before this one, she messed up her verse and sang Saiki's verse, instead of her verse. To this day, the other members of the band will troll Miku, during her verse. In this one though Kanami is sitting in front of Miku's monitor so Miku can't check the lyrics. You see her grin and the rolled eyes.
And you may not have noticed, but during Akane's drum solo, all the other Ladies moved to the side and sat or kneeled down and were cheering Akane on and trying to get the audience pumped up even more.
You also might notice, that MISA the bassist, isn't playing a standard rhythm bass line. For this song she is actually playing a lead bass line. Actually MISA basically plays lead bass in all of their songs. This started in the beginning of the band, where Miku couldn't really play guitar. She was learning, but she wasn't exactly good at it. So MISA's bass lines were to help cover over the lack of the rhythm guitar. As Miku's skills have increased, MISA still keeps playing lead bass lines. This is what makes a Band-Maid song, a Band-Maid song. 5 brilliant, talented women using their instruments, (including the instruments of their voices) to assemble a soundscape that is uniquely theirs, for our ears and our enjoyment.

MISA's bass may look like a Gibson, but if you look closer it's a Black Cloud too. She had them make it SG style but with a Fender Precision pickup and it's a 5 String. Miku only sings Lead on a couple of songs. In other songs she takes a verse here and there. She always wanted Dual Vocals, so she stepped back to Bakcing Vocals and had Kanami teach her how to play Rhythm Guitar. Then they found Saiki at their same agency and the lineup was complete. Once Akane locks into the Backing Tracks you can't throw her off. If you watch in 'Domination' you'll see her bandmates gather around her during the hard part and make faces at her to try and make her laugh and mess her up. Not a chance. Sh is The Beast! Half Gorilla / Half Drum Machine. For the next one , if you want to stick with the same show try 'Play!' LIVE. If you'd like to see an earlier show do 'Real Exisitence' LIVE.

Tōno Kanami (Mincho) is the mad scientist of riffs. The band collectively write the music. Kobato Miku (Kuruppo, Po, Pigeon, Pigeon Girl with the Floppy Pigeon Guitar) writes most of the lyrics. Atsumi Saiki (Ice Princess) and Mincho have written some lyrics.
First three records were written for them by other song writers except Freedom with lyrics by Po and Alone lyrics by Po and Saiki with music by Band-Maid. After that the band has been the primary source for their own music and lyrics with a few exceptions.
Po had worked at a Japanese Maid Café for three years. She decided to start a band contrasting the Mid look with hard rock. She searched Internet and discovered Mincho. Mincho suggested her sometime backing drummer Hirose Akane. For bass Akane suggested her class mate from music school Misa. The only member of the band who auditioned was Saiki.
In an interview of the Band for Japanese television, Saiki tells how she was introduced to the concept of girls wearing cute clothes playing rock music. Nowhere were maid uniforms mentioned. Po had kept this a secret from Saiki thinking she wouldn't join the band. They had concerts scheduled. Band-Maid held a dress rehearsal. When Saiki arrived Po said, "Here, Po. You wear this, Po," handing Saiki her maid outfit. I guess as a good sport, Saiki wore the maid uniform. During the TV interview she said, "This is how I was deceived by a Pigeon." The look stuck and nearly a decade later, the band is going stronger than before. The only thing that didn't stick was Saiki and Misa's aprons which they both stood against. Thus we have Misa the barefoot assassin on Bass and Saiki, the head-maid on lead vocals.
Isn't this the most fun band ever.

You can't be wrong with ANY of Band-Maid song...MV or alive! They are just top musicians, always smiling, and they bring me joy during worst times! What you must understand with all Japanese bands is that they can perform live whatever they did on studio versions! They are very dedicated and top-notch musicians and wonderful people (I'm not Japanese, as you can say, but I love them much). Somehow, they always cheer me up, even if I just had a terrible day... I recommend you other Japanese bands (and keep in mind they have zillion of good bands, for sure)... All female power-metal (sometimes trash-metal) band Lovebites. Any song of them - live or MV. Also, newest top metal all female band "Nemophila". Any song you like (my favorites are songs "Adabana" and "Dissention", but they have all good songs)... Also, power/symphonic metal band "Unlucky Morheus". They aren't all female band, but they have one of the best Japanese female singer - beautiful Fuki! Also, they have a female violinist in metal band! Any song by them, but I like live versions of "Angriffer" or "Dignity of Spirits" most, also "Cadaver/Revadac" is unique song, where they play first half of a song normally, and second half in reverse! (That's the meaning of song's name!) My personal love is very unusual band "Broken by the Scream" which consist of 3 top musicians (drums, bass and guitar) and unique combinations of 4 female vocals. Two of them singing "clean vocals", one is "high peach screamer" and one is "low growler"! That combinations is hard to imagine, but sounds very, very cool. For start I recommend their older song "Sayonara Birthday", but really (like I already told you) you could pick any of their songs...MV or alive! Tons of Japanese bands are awesome, and I'm mentioned just a few, but they are rocking modern scene, for sure!

Miku "small pigeon" Kobato: band founder/2nd vocal/rhythm gtr./main lyricist.
Saiki "the ice queen" Atsumi: 1st vocal. Some lyrics.
    Kanami "mincho" Tono: lead gtr./keyboards/composer.
    Akane "gorilla" Hirose: drums.
    MISA "the barefoot assassin": bass.
So u dont get confused on ur band maid journey, a note on Kanami "mincho" Tono. She is also known as "the princess".
Funny story (paraphrased). A fan was listening to band maid in his garage & some neighbors came over and asked who he was listening to & he replied; an assassin, a gorilla, an ice queen, a girl with multiple personalities (Kanami) & they are all headed up by an 810 year old pigeon.

Kanami's original nickname was Kanamincho which means little Kanami. It was shortened to Mincho.

After Kanami finishes her last blazing solo, Saiki sings, "Our pulses race together." Indeed! Band-Maid. Domination. Nuff said! Thx, Cheez!

Miku the rhythm guitarist is the second lead vocalist / back up vocalist. She has songs where she takes lead.

If you watch they tend to let whoever is in focus get the attention. When Akane does a drum solo the other girls get down out of the way, you'll see Misa the bassist get down when Saiki has a strong vocal piece and all throughout you'll see them all smiling

A little late but they absolutely do this well live. Saw them live in D.C. What you experienced in this video is what I experienced in real life. It's a sight to behold. Pure talent. Not gunna lie, Miku's my favorite.

    Cheez mate!
Greetings again from Shizuoka City where wasabi was first grown in the 17th Century!
Really appreciate your reacting style. As everyone said, your pauses are actually welcome, because even if I (we) have listened to the same track dozens of time, that allows us all to discover some facets we had missed!
Since you seem to be interested in Japanese in general (you have already been introduced to Lovebites and Nemophilia) do try Asterism with a 19-year old sol female guitarist playing like Ray Stevie Vaughan along barely older male drummer and 7-string bassist!
    I've got more!
    Best regards,
    Robert-Gilles (Martineau)

Have you done NEMOPHILA yet? It's another great girl band from Japan. Band Maid has many songs so stick around. The early songs are more classic rock and it just builds from there

When Kanami is crouched near Miku when Miku starts her singing and looks at Kanami..is because Miku messed up the lyrics in a previous song/performance and Kanami was teasing Miku by blocking her monitor..Hence MIku's "what are you doing?" look at Kanami..hehehe!🥰😊
