Ma really likes to push long to opponent's backhand after the opponents push short. This strategy has been working against almost every player he has played against except Ricardo. European backhand is just beautiful to watch

Man, I've never seen Ma get beaten so badly! I would like to see how the German guy does against Hou Yingchao!

Ma got 2 competitive sets here, whereas his match with Hao he was sufficiently outclassed that he looked like he didn't belong. He looked like he belonged on the court for 2 sets here.

He didnt default his service at 10-0. Is that not considered as bad manners in the USA?

He's not a US player, it's 50/50 on the international circuit, most professional players don't focus on the score so much and just get the job done. Some players don't like to receive mercy points as they feel it is insulting, it's possible Ricardo would have let the point go after the serve - but Ma missed the ball.

USA Table Tennis I agree. A mercy point is like saying “you’re not good enough to score one from me, so I’ll have to give one myself”

If it is possible to score 10 points in a row, it's also possible to score 12 points in a row. So why give a mercy point?

ZeRoBrain993 to be fair if someone gives you a mercy point, it’s good manners to give another one back. Therefore it’ll stop a 12-10 comeback
