- Our guest in this episode are two watches made by Poljot. The Poljot Samara is a contemporary sized dress watch, but with a vintage movement inside.
The Poljot de luxe is a real vintage watch, produced in the USSR. In this review I present you all the specifications and specialities of both watches.

For the 2209 watch, Luch had straight line brushing on the caseback. Poljot was circular. Not a big deal but wanted you to know. Someone has worked on this watch. The dials without numbers are beautiful. Thank you for showing everyone this!
Sadly, this whole Poljot is a Franken, it is indeed a Luch case like you pointed out, but if you go on the site, you can see the movement is produced by Luch too, and the dial is Chinese
60's watches were incredibly thin - I have a cheap one that is 8mm thin, and 4mm are the domed crystal! Too bad they don't make them like that any more. Today, if you want a very thin watch you must go for quartz, and even there, 8mm is a bit of a unicorn.
I don't think you can get anything better than a good old Poljot or Sekonda De Luxe for simple clean lines that go with anything. I have one of the larger Soviet collections out there and I do like my Sekonda De Luxes a lot but then I am a bit biased and don't think there is a bad Soviet watch ever hehe I have ranging from '47 Vostok 2602's to NH35 powered CCCP Time canteen crowns, a "1977" Zlatoust to a Poljot-uhren "Zlatousted" Poljot 3133, messing around fresh from Ukraine another Raketa perp calendar as I watched this vid :) Today's wear is my Sekonda tank auto, a much higher quality Slava tank exported to the UK market in the 70s.
Tim, would you ever go on Archie's daily livestream? You're one of the few watch CZcamsr's who he speaks positively of.
Tim and I think Teddy Baldassarre and thats about it so far as I know.
I used to go on Archie’s stream every day a while ago and I tried in vain to get Tim on!
I once changed the strap of a Slava for a relative, that was the most 70s watch I have ever seen.:)
I bet it looked fantastic!
This original Poljot is a real poke in the eye for people who suggest that watches need to be thick in order to have pleasing proportions. The case proportions remind me of the thin-cased Oris dress watches of the period.
Did I miss the origins of the Poljot International movement?
It’s a Russian Poljot caliber 2609.
One of many Russian quality movements.
Hi Tim,the black vintage one is stunner!! I like the newer one too, except for the strap. It looks like an old hippy cobbled that up.In true keeping with the style an expanding band/ a nice Speidel or Fix O
Flex - would do the trick! Great vid ,Cheers
Yes! The watch I have been hoping you would cover. Wonderful, Soviet and surprisingly sharp.
Interesting observations about early music education at the beginning of your post.
Spot on about music, war and watches this week Caseback Tim. Such slim, elegant watches. There's definitely something especially austere about a black watch tagged "Made in USSR' :)
Positivity I love to hear it on a Friday morning. Any morning for that matter have a good day Tim.
Hi Tim, this Poljot Samara has the best of two worlds: the "Russian-ality" of its design and the German manufacturing. And its price is half of a Junghans Max Bill ─the reference price I use for everything that exists─. Great! I'll keep this timepiece in mind. Thank you for this valuable information. Regards from Chile!
A friend of mine was looking for a russian vintage watch last year, I suggested him to write to Julian Kampmann ( this piece was not on the website ) and this old Poljot is what he came up with.
I have seen it in the flesh, it's a beauty! as usual Julian was a real gentleman, it's great to be able to recommend a seller in all confidence too.
And yet another great video! As a fan of Poljot myself, it’s refreshing to watch a pro review these watches. 👍
I second the russians being great musicians. When I was in Germany, there was this ever half-smiling guy, deep light blue eyes, always with leather long coats. He looked like out of a Bond movie I shit you not. Then he took a guitar at the Wohnheims bar and started playing Bossa Nova like a god. I was always both afraid and amazed by him lol
Bossa Nova?! :-D Love it.
Spring WILL be great…it’s in our hands 😊
Really enjoyed this ep. Thank you. Suggestions more NOS and larger size 39-40+ vintage. Cheers.
Julian is the best! always great service :)
Your "good mood" has put me into a good mood, too! Thanks for the interesting video. I would marginally prefer the black-faced watch but either would be pleasing to me.
The Poljot DeLuxe is absolutely astonishing. I am definitely sold.
And now I have to find one.
Great upload Tim.
I’m glad you mentioned G. U. B.
There’s a vintage Poljot piece I was thinking of that shares the same case as the vintage piece that sports the same over-sized and stylised arabics that I always associate with old G.U.B and new Glasshutté Original pieces.
Beautiful watches. I love how the indices are engraved into the dial and the black and gold... Both stunning, basic and reliable watches for the working man. There's a quiet dignity to that.
Re. the '2 stitch' straps; I'm not a fan, and as far as I'm concerned they are not particularly representative of vintage straps which were (I think) much more likely to have a single row of stitching across the entire strap, which is a much cleaner look for a cheap strap.
Thanks Tim.
Nice video. Have bought a couple of watches from Julian and you get great service. Just got a lovely Glashutte GUB from him.
Russian design, and especially music, is a wonder to behold.
Prokofiev is my favourite. Despite having to work under Stalin, he produced some of the funkiest original pieces ever.
Russian Constructivist graphic design pieces are unlike any other bit of artwork out there in their sheer presence. I love them!
Great looking watch. There is some bargain vintage Poljots out there.
The first one, the Samara looks beautiful and is very interesting. A possible buy ! Thank you ! great idea !!
I have been wearing my Poljot Strela 3133 none stop every day for the past 3 or so years. It has never stopped, I always keep it wound up. It's about +/- 10-5 seconds a day. I got it from Julian as well. Shame about the dent I put into the watch late last year, the micro scratches aren't a problem though as they are jsut signs of wear.
Hallo Tim,
Thank you for this video. great watches
Thanks for watching!
Got another first like on a favorite channel. Good way to start my day!
Congrats and thanks! ;-)
I very much like the first watch… Minimalist styling, yet looks refined! Thank you for the review and comparison.
The vintage Poljot de Luxe wears super comfortably. One of my favourite watch, superlight. You notice the bulkiness of the others watches afterwards. It was one of the thinnest Soviet movements, about 2,9 mm.
I am a big fan of those old Poljots. I have rare DeLuxe in dark burgundy, original soviet Ocean model and Stadium in blue. L-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-ove it.
Damnit... That gold-plated NOS looks magnificent! I think I have to own one of those. 😩
A lovely watch Tim, but what's the point of an exhibition case back on such a plain looking movement. I would just prefer a simple and probably cheaper metal case back.
Just another example proving why vintage is king.
Oh, and my 2 cents about Samara. I'd say it's case is much closer to '65 Lemania style then to vintage Poljot which is closer to '60 Seamaster. It is cool looking watch, but...
Superb vid Tim. Thanks
Thanks for watching.
Thank you, Tim. No need to justify feeling good. We have to feel good or the bad juju wins. Beautiful watches, I'm going to be checking ebay, maybe get lucky. Great work, I always enjoy the vids.
Thank you!
Hi Tim, could take a look at the poljot bolshoi vintage? I think it's a very nice looking watch, even though I think the hands are a bit stretching
I've bought several times from Julian. My first port of call when looking to add something to my (Russian) collection.
Been tempted by these a few times. On ebay they have a few 35mm examples with the utterly gorgeous elongated numbers at the quarter hour segments.
I saw those and eventually bought one with a white dial. Lovely watch with a nice vintage movement. Very Bauhaus dial and so thin..
Very pleased with it. Case and face are new with a vintage movement.About $60.
@@calypso22 The small size put me off but that black one looked perfect on Tim. I should have known better... few years ago my daily was a 36mm that I often thought was too big. How things change!
You can buy the black vintage model NOS on eBay for less than £50. Why would you pay €245 for it?!
Serviced and with warranty?
@@CasebackWatches Wouldn’t necessarily need servicing if it is genuine NOS. Guess it depends if you think the extra €200 is worth it for peace of mind.
@@the_9ent I was told often, that after some decades the lubrication is gone. But you're right, it's not a full service.
For anyone who’s interested, I just came across a seller on eBay who’s selling the 36mm vintage Poljot with gorgeous elongated arabics at the quarters for ~ $85 USD.
Very cool looking watch, can’t vouch for the European based seller or the watch, but I’m happy to try to steer you towards the listing if interested.
✌🏼
I have been studying Russian watches for a while. This 2609 movement is a real peach. It is from the Petrovets watch factory ( St Petersburg watch factory). This company was formed in 1721 by Peter the Great, it predates communist Russia, still exists and still produces watches. (Modern products are expensive) I guess this is the oldest watch company in the world not Breguet!
The best version of this movement is the 2609HA. It is very accurate and has a very characteristic tick, it beats at 18,000bph. The sister brand to Poljot is Raketa. Both former brands of Petrovets. Raketa made the watches ‘Big zero’ and the Copernicus. They are absolutely ionic. Both have the 2609HA movement and produced in the 1980’s. Seriously appreciating in value now. So acquire one before they get so expensive.
You're wrong on one major point. Raketa (Petrodvorets Watch Factory) was and is completely seperate from Poljot. Poljot was the flagship brand of the First Moscow Watch Factory from 1963 on, with the FMWF being established on the orders of Stalin in 1930 following the sale of the entire Dueber-Hampden Watch Co. from the U.S. to the USSR.
@@jakekaywell5972 Yes you are right. I meant Pobeda
Been tempted by those Stasi NOS for a while, I prefer the Marlin style arabics tho
Thank you for your review! I am waiting for a Poljot/Luch De Luxe bought from ebay myself.
One little remark though: the vintage version looks to be a redial? The markings are a little bit boat shaped instead of straight with a pointy end. Could this be the case or am I seeing this wrong?
Both are nice, especially the Samara!
Can you do Baltic? They are coming out with some stunning watches.
Good vid!
I think the Russian approach to music is spot on!
Super. Love it. That's all.
Are all poljot 2609 movements vintage or new old stock or is a firm out their making the movements? Aways wanted to know.
after the collapse of the USSR, one crook took all the mechanisms and watch cases to Germany, and there they produce these watches that have nothing to do with the Polyot original brand!
Legendary 2609. The first watch in space.
That black watch is KGB pimpin’
Not pimp as much as elegant and restrained. Very on-point for a dress watch.
I prefer the Black one but they are both nice. A bit more finesse than you get from Vostok.
Just a question out of curiosity: What market was the 1960s Poljot targeted towards? Because it seems somewhat surprising to have a Soviet watch with an English inscription (23 jewels shockproof). Were they sold in Western countries? And if not, why would the Russians inscribe their watches in English?
@@IDKline thank you, really interesting! I had no idea.
For decades, the USSR was the second largest maker and exporter of wristwatches in the world, second only to the Swiss. Even NATO-alligned nations had them, except the U.S. for obvious reasons. Poljot was considered Soviet Russia's flagship marque, and as such it was a bit of a status symbol on both sides of the Iron Curtain. However, given how it was a watch from the USSR, it's pricetag still grossly undercut its Western competition.
I have bought poljot de lux from ebay for 70eur i i love it ❤
2209 watches abound but it's thinness, coupled with the back of watch sitting higher than the lugs (see profile), has put me off as it will (?) not sit against the wrist.
as much as i like the black dial i feel that it won't go well with clear shirts

I ordered 2 Poljot Diver watches (Vostok Amphibian "Frogman" Diver') off eBay. Within 6 months both did not work. The local repair guy wrote it off as Russian sh*t. I have to spend money to send it to someone and maybe it gets returned. So I sold all my Poljots and those I did not sell I threw away. I'm writing this off as a fraud. If you're going to buy a Poljot make sure you know if there's a warranty and who carries the postage fees. Also, after the warranty, should it last that long, identify which local repair guy can address that model/ caliber.
Love your swing guitar solos, love your watch presentations, humor, and love that you are in a good mood. Please consider some vitamin D, zinc and vitamin K2 for immune protection. If curious, please check out the medical doctor, Dr. John Campbell on CZcams who regularly covers all that is developing in the current healthsituation as well as providing documentation on some of the clinical studies that for example prove how safe and effective are vitamin D, vitamin C, zinc etc…
Great video! Had that Poljot Deluxe last year as my first Russian watch. Unfortunately, the watch started to break after a week. It started by the crystal coming out loose, the crown not always staying engaged, etc. I just ended up throwing it away. Definitely looks great but I'll stay away from those haha
О Вам не повезло! Кто то у кого Вы покупали эти часы, Вас обманул;( у меня эти часы купил на авито за копейки можно сказать. И они работают очень хорошо и не ломаются!
Seems expensive for a watch with a very basic movement. A good looking watch though.
What About Full Power Reserve Of The Stunning Russian Master Timepiece ?
I gotta get me a Russian watch, ngl.
Russian aggression makes me depressed
Calm down, comrades! Nothing bad is going to happen. Privet from Russia :).
