  • Discover the making-of details behind Miu Miu’s latest Upcycled Denim collection.
Miu Miu Upcycled Denim turns its attention to upcycled jeans dated pre-2000 and sourced from denim jeans specialists worldwide. Denim is a long-lasting material prized for its ability to gain character over time, for the physical and symbolic effects of any ageing, with a distinctive patina.
Outer seams are preserved before deconstruction and re-fashioning take place, a process designed to re-use as much denim fabric as possible and, therefore, carried out by hand. The result is a reiteration of wardrobe archetypes, a study in circularity, honoring the provenance of clothing while transforming it for modern life.
Miu Miu approaches fashion with an avant-garde spirit, continuously redefining elegance with bold, playful twists. This forward-thinking ethos drives the brand to reinvent classics, merging tradition with a fresh, contemporary vision. Miu Miu explores new ways of creating fashion that resonate with a changing world, celebrating diversity and championing a responsible future while maintaining its distinctive, eclectic charm.

This initiative not only highlights the brand's craftsmanship and originality, but also attracts consumers looking for distinctive and authentic pieces. Creating a line of upcycled jeans not only benefits the environment, but also strengthens the brand's position in the market, meeting consumers' growing expectations for sustainable practices in the fashion industry.

it's not benefitting the environment. creating a separate initiative from all the other categories of production is not benefitting the environment. it's not even a part of the main line, nor is it mitigating any environmental impact from the main line. the only thing it's highlighting is the exploitation of consumers of fashion and their sheer and selective ignorance.

The concept is great and the results look nice... however I would love to see actually worn materials being re-used. True 'upcycling' would mean salvaging fabrics from clothes which have been worn through, or which have been abandoned in landfills, and re-using those fabrics to avoid over-producing. Personally I think this is the direction all fashion houses need to be turning in for the future, so I encourage you to be ahead of the trend!

Don't the fashion brands burn extra luxury good to create more pollution.
