I keep forgetting it's polar night, halfway through I'm thinking "wow she really gets a lot done in the evenings" đ
lol
A real night owl đ
Me, too! đ
I was so confused to see her making coffee in the middle of the night
Gina that's a good comment - as for making coffee at night - as for the other comment some one made about coffee at night - I live in the deep South in the US we drink Coffee with Chicory all hours of the day and night lol - I grew up drinking hot and cold coffee as the #1 beverage
I think the funniest part is the âI went to America and I came back with this adorable bag from Tractor Supply.â đ€Ł
It's the little things
I chuckled at that myself. Tractor supply has everything. Lol
Also Target tote bags. Seems like every second person in my neighborhood in New York uses a Target bag.
@@thebiblioholic for nordic ppl thats ikea bags or ullared bags đ„Ž
Trader Joe's has some nice bags too. I have a variety of Daiso bags too.
As a New Zealander it blows my mind that you guys get kiwifruit grown in New Zealand all the way up in Svalbard. That kiwifruit has literally travelled the world to get there!!
Those kiwis were probably grown elsewhere. Italy, Greece and Portugal also grow them.
@@VeraDonna Sorry, but the label clearly says they're from New Zealand (see 14:23). Norwegian supermarkets typically show the origins of fruits and vegetables.
And too think its probably cheaper there than what we pay here for it đ€Šââïž
@@awhinakeefe4663 i was looking at the prices and thinking the same thing. like that coffee. 7usd (just over $10nzd) isn't even that bad. a pack of instant maconna coffee is like 15 in NZ
@@legitjafa its out of it aye,its so expensive hereâŠI dont think others would shops they way they do here lol
Svalbard is so magical. I'm completely obsessed with the lifestyle, and the absolute beauty.
obsessed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you took the words right out of my mouth. it is magical
I love how Cecilia can switch between English and her native tounge with such ease...i so wish i was bilingual
It's still brain work though and sometimes exhausting. I often have to switch between my native language German and English.
@@rebeccaludwig9459 it's still so awesome you can speak two languages...my grandparents spoke waloon and as a child they tried to teach me and i regret not working with it.
A lot of people in Europe, speak multiple languages and are at least bi-lingual. I speak English and German.
Yes very listenerable voice đ
Every bilingual person does this :)
Cecilia! Have you considered including a calendar in your merch line? With your incredible photos of aurora, icebergs, the animals, etc? I'd snatch one up in an instant! :)
Or a coffee table book. That way she can do book signings!
Go the calendar, If it had Grimm in a Xmas hat for December, Iâd buy it! đ
I would totally buy a calendar đ
I would love â€ïž a calendar as well..
A grim calendar
Love that you took out some time to give that older dog some much needed lovin †Elderly dogs have my heart đ„ș
Why did the dog need "much needed lovin?" Heâs in a coffee shop everyone would be patting him!
Do you know if there is a veterinarian there? a hospital?
Omg that white faced husky in the cafe just melted my heart! What a sweet bot
OMG Grimm "power walking" alongside the car was TOO cute
You JUST got back! You are NOT leaving me again! đđ
I was going to say the same thing lol he is such a smart pup!
He needed some exercise, they needed go grocery shopping still tired fro the long flight and Cecilia having the cold.
Something very comforting about your winter vlogs, it allows me to embrace the winter months to come and my chill out vibes to kick in. .
I so agree!
I know I'm literally buying strip lights, I thought I knew winter in northern alberta but I think she wins
I agree, I usually dread winter but watching someone who LOVES it helps!
Me too!! Iâm obsessed with her channelâ€
Her attitude towards the darkness makes me have a better attitude toward our sunset before 5 p.m. Tonight I sat outside and watched the sun go down and the moon come up. It was beautiful. It didnât hurt that it was over 70 F.
I love how Ceciliaâs videos are filled with dogs and coffee. (Iâm actually more of a cat person, but I like doggies too.)
I donât know if I could face pulling all those groceries down in a sled in the dark cold snow and putting them away. But thatâs why I donât live in Svalbard đ.
It's amazing to have this supermarket basically a stone's throw from the North Pole. I used to live north of the Arctic Circle - about twice as far from the North Pole as Svalbard. That extra 1300 km really puts things in perspective - Svalbard is truly at the doorstep of the Pole. And the scenery - especially the northern lights - are simply magnificent.
IDK why it's so fascinating to see ppl grocery shop in another country. It just is! Putting the camera on the trolley is a good idea. Trolley Cam đ Love the transition from semi-dark to pitch black during your polar night †It's heading towards summer here in south-eastern Australia, and we're experiencing a LaNina weather pattern, so it's getting icky and humid, with ridiculous amounts of rain in some areas.
I cant believe how little they bought for $500.00
I hope you didn't get flooded. I wish it was going on spring in America. Quite warm for November. I had a yard sale last week and was hot.
Heading toward summer sounds great! Weâre already freezing in Utah/Colorado.
Absolutely love SE Australia. Iâm pressing for that move. Haha. Hope you stay dry!
@@donnalawrence8593 Most of the flooding is a fair way north of where I am in Melbourne (Australia is a big continent, lol!) but we did have local flooding quite close to my home last month. Lots of ppl a few suburbs away lost their belongings đ
@@crin28 Lol! I'm guessing you're talking about Sydney? I'm in Melbourne, which is a fabulous city for food and culture but has rather unpredictable weather!
"I think we're done now. I don't think we need anything else...-oooohđ€šđ€©"
Is literally me every time I go shopping đ€Łâ€
Or how about shopping with your stomach..lol..i swear i have to stop doing that
as someone from Brazil where I literally get mangos and avocados in my backyard (and I live in a 700thousand people city), I'm really amazed to see how great is the variety of foods in your supermarket.
It's so crazy that avocados from my country Peru go all the way to the artic it just blows my mind đ€Ż
I live in Canada and first of all I was really surprised at how warm it is there!! And of the items I saw prices for, most were fairly comparable or even cheaper than what I pay here. I was also surprised to see the good quality of produce...nice bananas, and nice, big avocadoes!
Yes I agree! I'm in Alberta and the prices make me want to cry. Our inflation is insane. This very much reminds me of the north west territories and Nunavut Yukon type area. Very similar life style and way of life other than I haven't seen much for native population on her channel so I'm not sure if they have a native population or not.
Yes prices not too bad for so remote!!
Svalbard never had native people.
Yes, Iâm just in the UK, and I was surprised that it was just -2.
Itâs so interesting to see that the prices are considered extremely expensive. The granola here in the USA would likely be around $6-8 a box instead of $3
Agreed! The prices in Svalbard are wayyyyyy lower than in D.C., and many places in the US. I live in Germany now and prices here are similar to Svalbard. Germans think prices are too high. Apparently many countries in Europe have even cheaper food. I guess it all depends on what youâre used to! Coming from Washington D.C., I am in heaven with German food prices!
I'm sure their fresh stuff is expensive since it has to be shipped so far. But yeah, their Oatly is like $3-$4 a container which is similar to the price where I live in rural Upper Midwest. I didn't think the frozen berries for $3 or body wash for $10 sounded out of the norm either.
I can't believe how inexpensive it was really. And how wide the selection was. Especially compared to northern Canada!
Yeah, that Oatly alone being less than $3.50 when here in NJ at Target, that size is $4.59
What people often forget is that in the Nordic countries (excluding Norway) middle class income is around 4k usd a month (before taxes, after taxes below 3k) so 1200 to 1400 usd a month on food is a considerable amount. Even with two middle class incomes. Now we donât know what Cecilia makes so but up to 1400 a month is a lot for just 2 people. Imagine what bigger families have to spend.
I don't know why grocery shop videos are some of my favorite. You guys have mostly the same stuff we do but it's still cool to see what the shopping experience is like there.
I always check out grocery stores in every country or region I visit. Even though so much has become the same all over the world. Itâs still fun.
@@itzel1735 me too! It is like visiting a museum for me;) I like to look at everything we don't have in our stores.
A grocery video of hers is what brought me to her channel years ago! Haha
We have alot of Scandavian residents here in N. WI. USA. Our Church just had a Scandavian Dinner last week. Lutifisk, meatballs, rutabagas and carrots, peas, red potatoes, lefsa, rye bread, herring ,pickled beets, with tapioca pudding topped with lindenberry sauce and a Krumkaka cookie. Lots of butter..... Along with the Scandavian bake sale we made $5000 for the community charities. Many Dale of Norway sweaters worn.
Hey! I have a suggestion? Run a 200' length of 3/8" steel cable from front door to car park, and rig up a pulley system...hang a wooden sled to put your groceries in, and then you can lower them down! If you add a $200 Front bumper winch to the rig you could pull UP the items to the truck!!
Cecilia, you have such a wonderful combination of beautiful videography, vlog and daily life, and interesting information about that gorgeous area. The videos feel simultaneously comforting and inspiring, and I can't be the only person who somehow feels like you are my friend even though we've never met :)
Thank you so so much đđ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą

can't deny it, I was shivering watching you leave the front door open while you finished getting dressed
I was going crazy watching how they were letting the heat out for so long!
It genuinely gave me minor anxiety đ€Ł
Like I yell and tell my son, close the door while it is only 32 f. outside.
I kept hearing my mom âare you trying to heat up the entire neighborhood?â
I think they can do that because they have their entry playing as an airlock (I think they all have this in the north countries because of how cold and extreme the weather is), so the house keeps the warmth while they can dress up and go out
I live in Oklahoma and I have never seen anything like this before. Definitely bucket list visit. Absolutely amazing places like that exist.
I live in Florida. Before inflation took hold I could spend 400 a month on groceries for 2. Currently it has become 600.
Iâm in love with your pantry. When my little pantry is full I feel happy and secure. Enjoyed this blog.
In Illinois i spend between 3-500. Usually 400 a month on two!
A coffee shop with dogs. Sounds like heaven to me. đ¶
Sorry you were sick in America. Hope it's not something we did. đ. Feel better.
I think itâs the air. I instantly got sick too when I got to the US.
I think anytime you go somewhere new your body isnât used to, youâre more susceptible to catch things. I am from America, but because itâs such a huge country, if I go across to the other side I also catch things more easily because my body isnât used to that environment and is also weak and tired from travel.
Itâs 1:08am on Monday morning Here in south Australia. Im home from my night shift and this is how I relax. Your videos are sooo calming. It is a dream to be able to visit your beautiful village one day and an even bigger dream to be able to live there.

These Polar Night videos are super cozy and lovely to watch. I would absolutely love to live somewhere like that - can't think of anywhere I would rather be. The grocery prices shown were actually quite similar to what you'd find in my medium-sized Midwestern (USA) city, cheaper in a few cases. That was shocking, I was sure things would be higher since everything has to be shipped/flown in. Very interesting.
I was thinking the same thing. I live an hour as the crow flies from Hollywood, and everything is astronomically expensive, including fresh produce grown right here or just south of the border. And the store in Longyearbyen has a MUCH better selection than my California grocery chain! Those crisp breads! đ We used to get them when I lived in the Netherlands too, along with the round rusks. There's something so satisfying about Northern European shopping. đ Everything is packaged so nicely and looks so appealing.

Thank you for sharing your daily life with us. I live in the total "polar" opposite climate. I live in southeastern Georgia, USA. We are a subtropical climate with 10 months of summer. Today we had a 116 degree Fahrenheit heat index due to the high humidity here. The actual temp was 97. Earlier this week, we had a 116 degree heat index on a 92 actual temp day. Your toes sweat the minute you step outside in sandals. In closed shoes, your feet area already sweating. I love seeing your community, daily life, and culture. Please keep sharing.
I was also amazed by the variety of selection in Norwegian supermarkets.

I absolutely am not usually a fan of winter but Cecilia makes me wanna enjoy it đ
The matching pajamas are so cute! I hope youâre feeling better!
You and Chris are two amazing people along with Grimm. Be safe and God bless in your weather. I am happy to see your videos
2nd polar night with you :) Following from Finland, where Iâve lived for 14 years, almost turning into a zombie every December. The darkness is very difficult and it feels heavier every year. I hope will get some excitement about winter by watching you :)

Same:). I absolutely love the cozy season. xo
This is my first time on your channel, I got here after watching a short about polar night. I was so, so happy to see that you were also doing longer-form videos! And I'm now even more excited because your content seems so cozy. You definitely got yourself a new subscriber! :)
Beautiful pooch!!! Such friendly, loving eyes!
When you forget about the high speed of videos and think omg they are going soooo fast in the parking lot lolll I absolutely LOVE your videos. They bring me so much joy! So good to see Christopher more! Thank you all for sharing your life!
I found your channel yesterday and I've been binge watching a lot of your videos. Svalbard is truly magical, and seeing your cosy home and the beautiful family you have, warms my heart â€Thank you for sharing
Food is incredibly expensive there because all that food has to be flown in or shipped in from all around the world pretty much. I think life there in general is pretty inexpensive probably, but as I recall, rent is pretty high there and you donât get much for the amount you are paying in rent, you can go to open cabins all around the country...which is relatively cheap. Some are really remote and I am not sure if you even have to pay for them...just stay there and make sure you leave it in better condition or at least the same condition as when you came there. Realize if you are out in the middle of nowhere, you could get polar bear visitors...so make sure you are prepared for that and always carry a weapon just in case. Maybe a sat phone would be good to have just to call and report a polar bear...there is a hotline for that I think. They send out a helocopter to chase it away.and protect you from being its next meal.đ
i love that you can already sense a christmas vibe on svalbardđâš
Just loving this darker season to begin and in your place, there is everything I appreciate so much: snow, coldness, cozy home and your sparkling positive spirit! Greetings from Berlin
I a, smiling from eat to ear watching happy Grimm â€ïžâ€ïžhe is clearly so happy to have you both back â€ïž
IÂŽm OBSESSED with your polar night content đđ thanks for sharing your life with us đ„°
I just came back from Svalbard and your video is very relatable now! I heard of Svalbard when I was little, reading "His Dark Materials", but never really considered visiting. I only considered visiting after watching your videos I think! Longyearbyen/Svalbard was beautiful. I had to keep reminding myself where I was in the world, it was so unreal and dramatic. We even managed to see the northern lights before the weather turned more snowy. My friends and I all got sick on our last day, the same day you said you were sick at the beginning of the video! :D There was so much more we would have loved to do in Longyearbyen, we will have to come back - maybe we can experience Spring/Summer next time.
Winter nights or polar nights are indescribable splendor, my friend
I love your cabin! Beautiful!
Grim reminds me so much of my girl Meg. Sheâs a husky mix, so sheâs got some sort of shepherd in her as well, but sheâs still got that fluffy coat and the excited loud panting when sheâs happy. I think itâs so funny you mentioned how Grim becomes a couch potato during polar night because I feel like my dogs get even more restless than normal during the winter, although theyâve got lots of exercise.
